CHOCOBOS The equivalent of horses in the FFVII world! And the best way to get around by a long shot! After all, who DIDN'T want a giant fluffy animal to ride on when they were a kid? ;D Fulfill your childhood dreams now! 8D
Types of Chocobos
Yellow Chocobo: Grass, sand, marshes.
Green Chocobo: Grass, sand, marshes, mountains.
Blue Chocobo: Grass, sand, marshes, shallow water, rivers.
Black Chocobo: Grass, sand, marshes, shallow water, rivers, mountains.
Gold Chocobo: Everywhere -- Grass, sand, marshes, shallow water, rivers, mountains, oceans.
How to Get a Chocobo - Buy a Chocobo Lure Materia from Choco Billy at the Chocobo Ranch for 2,000 Gil. - Rent a Stall for your chocobo. Cost is 10,000 Gil per stall. You can have up to 4 Stalls per Character. - Make sure to buy some Greens to feed the wild chocobos so that they don't run away! - Using this map, head to one of the locations and search in the areas where the chocobos usually walk and catch one using the Greens you bought, making sure when you do so that no other monsters are around to scare it away. - Take it back to the Chocobo Ranch and put it into its stall, or send it there itself by giving the "Send it to the Stables!" command.
Raising Chocobos Chocobos can be raised in many different ways and for many different purposes. Some people raise chocobos to race, while others raise them for breeding. But regardless your reason for raising a chocobo, there is one thing both have in common, and that's how good their stats are. There are a total of four stats that you can raise on every chocobo. These are it's Speed, Intelligence, Stamina and how well it gets along with you which is based on how much you feed it.
For the Racing aspect of chocobos, the Speed is important because the higher the class your chocobo races against, the faster all your competitors will be, guaranteed. Intelligence is important regardless if you have full control over your chocobo while racing or not. For instance, a chocobo that you race with that has no brains in its head will sometimes even run the wrong way in a race, which in any class is a bad thing. But one with a high intelligence can sometimes even figure out a better way to beat its competitors than you had planned! How much your chocobo likes you, likewise, depends on how much you feed it. For every Green you feed your chocobo, the better your relationship with it will get. And the better your relationship, the more effectively your chocobo will be able to obey your commands while racing.
Stamina is extremely important, if not debatably the most important stat for your chocobo. Stamina is used up in a race while you urge your chocobo to Boost its Speed. Once you Boost your chocobo's Speed, it runs much faster than normal, but its Stamina drops quickly. Thankfully, you can also continuously increase your chocobo's Stamina even while using it up by pressing on one of the pressure points in your chocobo's neck. However, it rises only slightly so pushing the pressure point while using up Stamina will still deplete the Stamina steadily if just a little slower. Also, you must be sure to be careful! Because if your Stamina is all used up, your chocobo will drag itself the rest of the way at the bare minimum Speed it is capable of. Needless to say, your chances of winning the race will be slim if that happens.
But what has racing got to do with Breeding? The importance of Racing your chocobos is all about whether you're going for a special chocobo or not. For instance, to get any of the Colored Chocobos, the higher the classes of the chocobos you breed together, the higher the chance is that you'll get a Colored Chocobo.
Chocobo Racing Classes C Class - The lowest class, a beginner. Every chocobo (whether caught or bred) starts out in this class. - Breeding a chocobo of this class will give you only a 10% chance of getting a Colored Chocobo. B Class - Your chocobo is getting used to racing now. It rises to this class once it has won 3 Races in C Class. - Breeding a chocobo of this class will give you only a 25% chance of getting a Colored Chocobo. A Class - Your chocobo is becoming quite skillful at racing now. It rises to this class once it has won 3 Races in B Class. - Breeding a chocobo of this class will give you only a 50% chance of getting a Colored Chocobo. S Class - The highest class! Your chocobo is of the highest quality, a veteran racer and a force to be dealt with on the track. It rises to this class once it has won 3 Races in A Class. - Breeding a chocobo of this class will give you a 90% chance of getting a Colored Chocobo. - Breeding a chocobo of this class will also give you a 40% chance of getting a Gold Chocobo.

Beginning Stats for Chocobos When you breed or catch a chocobo in the wild, they each come with already set stats that can be modified by feeding them Greens. As was mentioned above, there are four different stats for each chocobo: Speed, Intelligence, how much a chocobo likes you, and Stamina.
Speed Yellow Chocobos - Weak Chocobo: 80-90 - Good Chocobo: 85-95 - Great Chocobo: 85-105 - Wonderful Chocobo: 95-110 Green Chocobo: 90-105 Blue Chocobo: 90-105 Black Chocobo: 100-115 Gold Chocobo: 120-135
Intelligence Oblivious, Gullible, Dense - Lowest Intelligence Ignorant, Naïve, Inexperienced - Not the Smartest Cookie in the Jar Competent, Capable, Able – Average Intelligence Keen, Bright, Aware - Quite a Smart Cookie Shrewd, Clever, Wise – Highest Intelligence
How Sociable is Your Chocobo This is based solely on the personality of your chocobo. While most chocobos grow fond of their owners through feedings, this is not always the case. Sometimes grooming, how much time you spend with them, or merely how you treat them will affect how long it takes for them to warm up to you. Remember, the better your chocobo likes you, the easier it is to work with them during races and while breeding.
Stamina Yellow Chocobos - Weak Chocobo: 175-200 - Good Chocobo: 200-225 - Great Chocobo: 200-250 - Wonderful Chocobo: 225-275 Green Chocobo: Based on Parents Blue Chocobo: Based on Parents Black Chocobo: Based on Parents Gold Chocobo: Based on Parents
As you can see, the chocobos you breed will have a Stamina dependent upon how much Stamina their parents have. If both your parent chocobos have had their Stamina raised to 500, then the newborn chocobo, regardless of color, will also have a Stamina of 500. If your chocobos have two different Staminas, say 250 and 275, just add them and divide the total by two to get the newborn chocobo's speed. So for this pair, 250 + 275 = 525/2 = 262.5, then Round Up to the nearest 5 or 0 ending number, so your chocobo's Stamina would be 265.

Raising the Stats of Chocobos - Greens Greens can be bought from Choco Billy at the Chocobo Ranch, and based on which Greens you feed your chocobo, certain stats will level up. Each Green however raises the stats by different amounts based on how good or potent a Green it is. The potency of each Green and which stats it raises are listed below.
NOTE! While your chocobo's Stamina keeps rising until it reaches the 999 limit, regardless what Greens you use, the same is not true for your Speed and Intelligence stats. Usually after feeding your chocobo 5 Greens, their Speed is maxed out. And after 3 Greens their Intelligence is maxed out. This is regardless how much "potential" they have to be smarter or faster. On that note, be careful which Greens you feed your chocobos if you want them to turn out a certain way.
Gysahl Green - 100 Gil - Stamina +5 Krakka Green - 250 Gil - Intelligence -- Barely raises intelligence: No difference in intelligence at one or two feedings. At three feedings, intelligence is raised to the next level. Tantal Green - 400 Gil - Speed +2 - Intelligence -- Raises intelligence Slightly: No difference in intelligence at one feeding. At two feedings, intelligence is raised to the next level. - Stamina +5 Pahsana Green - 800 Gil - Intelligence -- Raises intelligence Noticeably: Raises intelligence by one level each time a chocobo is fed. Curiel Green - 1,000 Gil - Speed +5 - Stamina +10 Mimett Green - 1,500 Gil - Speed +8 - Stamina +15
This means~ Using the 5 Greens/Meal, 3 Meals/Day Method!
Stamina +5 = 160 Greens to Max Chocobo's Stamina = 11 Days with Gysahl/Tantal Greens. Stamina +10 = 80 Greens to Max Chocobo's Stamina = 6 Days with Curiel Greens Stamina +15 = 55 Greens to Max Chocobo's Stamina = 4 Days with Mimett Greens

Once you decide you want to breed chocobos, you're entering a completely new, and challenging, part of the world of chocobo raising. That's because most people that breed chocobos do it for the sole purpose of obtaining a Colored Chocobo, no easy task.
There are two ways of getting these chocobos, one of which you will choose depending on how much work you want to put in. Doing it the Basic Requirements (BR) way will save you money, time and effort—but your chances of getting a Colored Chocobo will not be as great. Doing it the time and money consuming Maxed Requirements (MR) way will, however, give you the best shot of getting one of these rare chocobos the first time you breed them. Each section below will be broken into two parts, one for BR and MR each.
The Blue River Chocobo and Green Mountain Chocobo Basic Requirements Method Great Female Chocobo (B Class) + Good Male Chocobo (B Class) + Carob Nut = Blue River Chocobo Good Female Chocobo (B Class) + Great Male Chocobo (B Class) + Carob Nut = Green Mountain Chocobo
Hint! Carob Nuts can be stolen/won from battles with the monster ‘Vlakorados’ on the grassy plains near the Nibelheim area.
Maxed Requirements Method Great Female Chocobo (S Class) + Great Male Chocobo (S Class) + Carob Nut = Blue River Chocobo or Green Mountain Chocobo
Obviously you’d have to breed the parent chocobos twice to try to get the other color if that’s what you’re shooting for. Unless you have another pair you can breed.
Another plus—the more Greens you feed your chocobos, the better the chance that they’ll birth a Colored Chocobo. Therefore, in order to have the best chance of getting a Colored Chocobo, you should max out all of their stats. Note however that this is quite a challenge since the Stamina of chocobos is not maxed out until it reaches 999. (See "The Black River-and-Mountain Chocobo, Maxed Requirements Method" section for more info on how many Greens and how much Gil it takes to REALLY max out a single chocobo!)
The Black River-and-Mountain Chocobo Basic Requirements Method Blue Chocobo (A Class) + Green Chocobo (A Class) + Carob Nut = Black River-and-Mountain Chocobo
Make sure to feed your chocobos at least 125 Tantal Greens in order to make Racing them up to A Class easier, and to raise the chance of getting the Black Chocobo.
No need to fret though. If you feed your chocobo 5 Greens per Meal, with 3 Meals a Day, that's 15 Greens per Day. Meaning in 9 Days your chocobo will have been fed the amount it needs and then you can race them. And because we don't expect each character to stay at the Chocobo Ranch in person and feed their chocobos these Greens, you can ask Chloe or one of the other workers to do it for you, then return in 9 days to check up on your chocobos. :3
Also, you obviously need to have one male and one female to breed your chocobos. Therefore be careful with which Blue and Green Chocobos you get from your first step in breeding, because you’ll need one of each but also need them to be a male/female pair in order to get the Black Chocobo.
Maxed Requirements Method Blue Chocobo (S Class) + Green Chocobo (S Class) + Carob Nut = Black River-and-Mountain Chocobo
Remember! Maxing out the Stats of your chocobos will help here! If you want to quit on the Stamina, because it’s so high, that’s alright. It does take forever after all.
On average, maxing out your chocobo’s Stamina with Tantal or Gysahl Greens would mean feeding them a total of 4,455 Greens either way. For this, if you do plan to carry out this insane decision, then make sure to save yourself some money. Maxing out the Stamina of a single chocobo with Tantal Greens would cost 1,782,000 Gil, whereas using Gysahl Greens would cost only 445,500 Gil. So you’re saving yourself about 1,350,000 Gil per chocobo.
The Gold Ocean Chocobo Basic Requirements Method Black Chocobo (A Class) + Wonderful Chocobo (A Class) + Zeio Nut = Gold Ocean Chocobo
The first thing you need to do here is to go catch a new chocobo, the best of the yellow chocobo breed: a Wonderful Chocobo. Make sure to catch one that’s the opposite gender of your Black Chocobo! You don’t want to mess up there. ;3 You can catch them near the Icicle Inn area. Also, make sure to feed your chocobo the standard 125 Tantal Greens like you did with your Blue and Green Chocobos since you’ll be racing this one up to A Class as well.
You will also need a Zeio Nut as well in order to get the Gold Chocobo. Zeio Nuts can only be stolen—so you must have a Steal Materia—from the Goblins on Goblin Island, and then only in the forest areas. This means you will either need to take a boat or plane to get the location. The best ports to get boats rented at would be Costa del Sol, Junon Harbor, or Mideel—depending on which continent you’re currently on. Airships or planes would be far more difficult to obtain and probably more costly. However, a trip by boat would take several days, if not a little over a week—depending on how far you have to go. A plane trip could be done in a day, if the plane is small enough to land on the tiny, narrow island, or it is a water-worthy craft that can land in the ocean near it. The only other method would be through Airship, since it can land vertically.
Hint! There’s a secret to knowing whether the chocobo you run into is a Wonderful Chocobo or not. Maybe it has something to do with the company it keeps?
Maxed Requirements Method Black Chocobo (S Class) + Wonderful Chocobo (S Class) + Zeio Nut = Gold Ocean Chocobo
No difference here again, except that it’s advised you feed your Black and Wonderful Chocobos about 315 Tantal Greens. With the 3 Greens per Meal, 3 Meals per Day—15 Greens Daily method, this means both of your chocobos will be ready to Race up to S Class in about 21 Days this time around.
Hint! Use the time you wait for your chocobos to be fed the necessary amount of Greens to perhaps take a trip to a far-off island. And make sure to bring back a souvenir! ;3
