Long-ago, long before Sora's time, there was a war between two war systems. They were fight for what has been the source of so many problems since, Kingdom Hearts. Both systems had ambitious rulers that wanted to use Kingdom Hearts to conquer the other and then other world systems, but the two world systems were equally matched and were locked in a stalemate for many years. Both rulers knew they needed to find a way to end the war because no one wanted to continue anymore, so they started looking for a means to end it. Before either side could find that means, a joint resistance from both sides performed a coup d'etat on the leaders. But to the surprise of the new leader for one system, the former leader had found his means, a weapon that used the natural power of his people and Kingdom Hearts. The new ruler decided to use it as a peace offering. He installed 'safeties' that only his people would be able to disengage so they could only be used by those that are worthy among the other world system's people. When the two new rulers met and the one leader presented the weapon and explained it how it chose its user, the other was happy. He called it a keyblade because it was the key to their peace. The one king extended it to the other, but it flashed away and reappeared in the hand of a young mouse, the king's son and future king of the world system; his name was Mickey.
