Body modification is all the rage right now. Everyone from high school kids to soccer moms are getting tattooed and pierced every day.

Post your news stories here, provide links, videos, etc. We can discuss current events, and changes in Body Mod laws, regulations, practices, new and popular mods, etc.

I know this article is from back in January, and I posted a comment in it, but I want to know what you all think of it too.

http://zeldalily.com/index.php/2010/01/evidently-theres-a-direct-link-between-body-art-and-societal-deviance/

Basically, the article states that those who have a combined total of 4 or more tattoo, are more likely to skip class, be drunk in public, and other "deviant" behavior.

Read the article and tell me what you all think. Just because you're pierced and tattooed, does that make you want to do more deviant behavior? Do you binge drink, get arrested for bar fights, etc., JUST because you have a combined 4 or more tattoos or piercings?

Regarding the old thread, It think it's a story for every teen.

As in, it really does involve the individual, there's reason why a certain piercing, or a certain tattoo can relate to one person.

Kind of like belly piercings on 14 year olds, and Tramp Stamps as soon as they reach 18.

Emo kids with Snake bites.

But that's just young adults, people who KEEP their liking for body mods and dedication to it are rare, and usually are much more thoughtful individuals, they actually take it as a lifestyle, an artful one. I think that's what most of us in this guild are, and we're all quite nifty educated and nice people, honestly.

There's a big difference between, the "skanks" with tattoos, the people who do it for art, and the "prison" mates with they gang symbols all over them.

So that article, as usual and always is just misleading, closed minded, and one lined.

Of course that's all stereotypes.

So I'd say, people who do it for art > people who do it to show off some kind of statement of their belonging to some kind of group.

AND STORIES: My mummy said I can get my lip pierced as soon as my last test is done. dramallama Basically that she'll pay for it as a reward.

Congrats on getting the lip piercing! Do your best on that test!

I agree that 99% of pierced or tattooed kids now will either remove the piercings, or regret the tattoos within 5 years of leaving high school. They do it to fit in, to "rebel", not because they honestly love it, do it for the art factor, or feel they need it to complete their inner image of themselves.

I'm just glad that I'm not one of them. I will NEVER remove my piercings unless I absolutely have to. I love them too much, they compliment me so well, and they help to make me who I am. 3nodding

Seriously, more than 4? I had 4 piercings before I even knew what body-modding was! And I don't drink, don't smoke, and am in university on a full-ride sponsorship based mainly on GPA.
I don't plan on taking out my piercings, do plan on getting more and hopefully even a tattoo. So while this might be considered "deviant", it certainly doesn't mean I'm going to start doing other "deviant" things. What is being deviant, anyway? If it's just doing something different than everyone else, isn't being sober and drug free more deviant than drinking and partying?

This! XD

I know so many people that are not modded; that get good grades in university and they end up getting wasted almost every night.. it's pretty much the norm now. ;p

I think a long time ago tattoos and piercings were something that only rebels had.. (gangs used tattoos to identify their members) but now it's normal for ordinary people to have tattoos and piercings.. go to a doctors office or hospital I swear 25% of the females working have nose piercings. wink

I was just having this convo with my tattoo artist yesterday. People tend to look at us as "delinquents" when like said, the people who go into adulthood still in love with body mods are usually nothing like that.
Story he told me.
His wife and him were out at dinner (both heavily modified) when the table next to them, filled with older ladies, kept gawking at them. Finally one of the older ladies says "Excuse me, do you do tattooing for a living?"..he was expecting to get offended very soon when he said yes, she continues to tell him how her husband had a turtle on his shoulder that she HATED. He would always call her his frog though. He passed away recently and she wanted to know if she was too old to get a tattoo of a frog on her back (she was around her 60s/70s). After she told asked him this all her friends became more bitchy to even her.

When my tattoo artist and his wife left they paid for those womens tab and had the waitress staple his card to the receipt with 10% off for the women that wanted the frog. When she went in later to get the tattoo she told him that that was all her friends could talk about for weeks. How those people (tattooed people in general) were some of the nicest, friendliest people out there and they were so wrong to judge.

I loved that story rofl

I've noticed this a bit too, NOT always, but most times. There's something about being different, being an outcast, that makes people sometimes BETTER people. I suppose it comes from being picked on, and made fun of, and tortured, that in return they don't want to treat other people that way. It goes into my theory of "I'm just a flat out better human being than that a*****e, because I don't treat other people that way.

Just having a tattoo or piercing doesn't automatically make you a better person, not by a LONG shot. But those of us into the lifestyle behind the modification, those of us in it for the long haul/our LIVES, tend to be pretty damn awesome people. 3nodding

I personally think that he should be charged for attempted murder. Who knows if those used needles had HIV on them or other things.

If anyone ends up being diagnosed with Hep C or HIV, then yes. He can't be charged with it if no one contracted it right?

Glad he's been shut down. He said somewhere in the article that's been doing this for 30 years. If so, why would he ******** it up now?

He can be charged with attempted murder I believe for not taking the precautions to prevent anyone from getting Hep C or HIV. Him making the decision to not properly sterilize the needles, and knowing that he should have, is in itself attempted murder.

Nope, I don't think it would be classified as attempted murder. More likely criminal negligence. Attempted murder would need intent as well as the actual act of negligence, whereas criminal negligence can be charged with simply the absence of due care to the best of one's abilities and knowledge.

It's still effing scary though.

Huh, I thought it would be.
Either way, it should be attempted murder!

I think the only way it would be attempted murder is if he knew there was HIV on the needles, and if someone caught it from them. Barring that, there's no intent, and so nothing was "attempted".
