I'm just curious as to what appeals to you most about Japanese music.
Since the majority of the threads around here are pertinent to Visual Kei alone, I might as well ask the burning question of:
Which do you value more: the visuals or the music?

I say music. I mean, the visuals are nice and all, but they dont really help all that much when you are listening to the music itself.

What disturbs me are the fangirls who do nothing but drool over images without ever listening to the bands. D: I know there are plenty of 'em out there too. gonk

i looove looking at the bands..... but the music has to come first XDD
if they didn't sound good, i wouldn't listen at all...... kinda like kana.....

I go for the look. Totally and absolutely. I mean, who cares that Miyavi's singing is like nails across a chalkboard, he's DAMN pretty!
Ok, yeah, that was sarcasm. Seriously though, since I don't download MP3s all that often, I kind of go for the visual over the audio, because my introduction to most bands is through their music video. Sometimes, I have to ignore the video in order to appreciate the song, I know there are several of Dir En Grey's like this, other times, it totally takes the video to appreciate the song, like Shion's Romantic a Go Go. I love that video.

I, of course, prefer the music. How they look is a plus, but not the main reason. We start threads on here about someone looking hot/pretty/cool because we are having fun. That's why I start them anyway. And anyone who says differently about me shouldn't assume things about people they don't even know. gonk
But you can't look at it all in black and white. Maybe they're not into music, and they're just into fashion or something...I wouldn't mind that so much, but if they're doing the whole "OMG they're so hot!!!" thing...then I can't take it. crying
I just say let them be crazy and not care about the music. I'll do my thing, they'll do theirs.

I personally think that the majority of the Visual Kei scene is rehashed garbage, but that's not the intent of this thread. I just wanted to see if there were any of those rabid fanbitches here--- so I could avoid them accordingly. wink
Music is what musicians do. They shouldn't have to rely on cheap tricks and gimmicks to get fans. I stopped listening to Visual kei for this entire summer... and now when I put it back on, I have a horrentdous time trying to differentiate different bands because the music is so derivative. D:
The fashion can be a plus, but I'd rather keep my appreciation as something with more truth in it. If they want to profess to be a fan of someone only for their image... then they sure as hell better say "I like X's fashion" instead of "I like X", because with the second statement I will work on the assumption that they have some reason musically for liking that artist.

half the time, i dont even see pictures. i have no PVs or anything. i'm just into the music. like dir en grey, i think i accedentally downloaded that, and after liking it a lot, i tried finding lyrics. instead, i found pictures. they were a hell of a lot creepier looking than i thought they would be, but that didnt really stop me.

If I was at home and had to chose between Visual or Audio, I would pick visual.
Audio is only for when I am away from my computer and cant see the PVs and all.

I go for music more, that's usually how I get into bands, listen to their music first then find some pic of them, so I fall in love with them for their music first. Their outfits and everything is awesome though and just adds to their coolness points, but I like a band for it's music more not how they look. 3nodding I hate those stupid fangirls of so and so is sssooo hot yet they can't even name a freakin song by that band because they hardly listen to them. stare

The only way to watch some PV's is with the mute on. So when the visuals are better than the music, you've got a good excuse. 3nodding
