This thread is reserved for SilverLynx to RP with, and maintain a diary for, her Silva Regia Fey, Astra. Thank you to Anya! for her permission to use her diary concept. DO NOT POST HERE UNLESS YOU ARE SPECIFICALLY INVITED TO BY SILVERLYNX! Violators will be reported to a moderator...er...herself...cuz she is one...heh.

Background: The daughter of the Moon Court's former bard, Vates, and his lovely wife, the harpist Fidicina, Astra has all the strengths of her parents when it comes to music, and she knows it. She was not their only child, but was the youngest of two. Her elder brother, Solanum, was seemingly cursed with having no talent for any music which wasn't utterly discordant, and rather than making others feel good, he could literally encourage anger or even war. Astra was the opposite, her beautiful voice and dextrous fingers could make even the most banal of songs seem like a sweet symphony. Even as a child she was able to compose songs which could cast even the most wretched being in a grand light. She was studying under both parents when the curse struck. Recently freed from the window, her future is unknown. Astra is now a beautiful teen whose charm and beauty are increasing daily.

Personality: Astra is what could only be termed a medieval diva. She lives and breathes music, and loves to be in the spotlight, the center of attention. She loves to bring herself into favor with others through flattery via her music, and employs her beauty and charisma to strong effect in this. She is also one who loves to root out secrets by making herself present to eavesdrop on conversations.

Sajhiri
It was late, and Nox stood outside in the cool cloudy evening and looked up at the bright warm light exuding from the high tower window where the kidnapped human child was being entertained by her court. She shuddered at the close proximity of the kithain, but at least it was better than a pure human with no fey blood in them.

She gazed out towards the portcullis and waited. Soon. They would come soon. Sajhiri had told her there was another kithain out there, and that she had sent them a message. Of course, this was before the Masquerade Ball and her kithain's incarceration in Gaia. But Nox had discovered an older faerie ring buried in the depths of the forest as the group had fled Castellum Argentus, which emerged into the woods in the fields outside Barton town in Gaia. It was to this ring that the new kithain would be directed in Sajhiri's missive.

----------------------------

Meanwhile...in Gaia...a strange message had been sent to SilverLynx. It arrived via a raven messenger and deposited a scroll inside of which a lengthy exposition on ancient fairies and her possible relation to them was explained. Also was explained how by her heritage, she might be capable of breaking a terrible curse cast on the fey children long ago.

Directions were included to lead her to a ring of glowing mushrooms deep in the woods of Barton town, and that should she truly be an ancestor of the Tuatha de Danaan, she would, upon stepping into the ring, find herself in a deep forest in Tir Nan Og. There the directions further instructed her on how to reach the dark castle, Umbra.

SilverLynx
As the raven flew away, Lynx's clever eyes followed it's path into the night sky. Fey blood? Her pointed ears and lithe body had spoken to an other-human heritage, but to have it confirmed in such a way was unexpected. She changed quickly into a more appropriate outfit, and punched out of Mod Central for the day. Her felenic eyes widened as the night touched them and she headed swiftly to the border of Barton forest.

She felt a certain disorientation, and turned back, surprised where had such giant mushrooms come from? Her cheeks colored a little, and she continued forward, starlight touching her path and guiding her along the forest path.

Sajhiri
The forest of Tir Nan Og was unnatural in it's feel, and the sounds of night creatures with strange tongue and tone were an eerie symphonic accompaniement to the Gaian's journey. But all paths lead somewhere, and at last the massive dark structure of Castellum Umbra could be seen across a moonlit meadow. Strangely, as if in mirrored opposition, a silvery castle could be seen in the other direction. The instructions were very clear that the dark one was where Lynx was needed, and inside, a strange pulling sensation had begun, that seemed to be urging her in that direction as well.

SilverLynx
Lynx could feel the draw and her speed increased. The castle's dark beauty reached out to her very soul. She felt herself smiling as she dashed up the path to the ramparts her eyes wide and pleased. She halted at the entrance however, caution touching her limbs now, though her heart raced with excitement. Was this part of her heritage? She blinked, and ventured timidly though the open gateway.

Sajhiri
"Enter Child...for as you are called here, so you belong." The voice was husky, almost smoky in quality, and emanating from a pale woman, scantily clad, to which all the light of the moon and stars seemed to draw itself. On her back a pair of translucent wings fluttered, constellations whirling there as if trapped in the membranous appendages.

She gestured to the yawning black mouth of the castle entryway on the far side of the courtyard. "Where your soul draws you, you shall find a window in which a child you share bloodlines with has been trapped for a thousand years by a dread curse. If you are strong enough, and willing, you can free them by granting what is asked of you. When you do so, return to me, that I might welcome one of my people back to the land of life, or may escort you back through the wood otherwise."

SilverLynx
Lynx swallowed and nodded. There was a unique sense here that there were things much bigger and more powerful than herself. Her cheeks burned a little, and she turned to look down the darkened corridor. She feared for a moment, a certain retribution if she weren't worthy of doing this task. But even as heart trembled, her feet had started her forward an their path, moving her where her mind was at first unready to go. But as soon as she knew, her pace increased - dropping to all fours to run, lightly scampering down the halls, up a flight of stairs and through a door formed what seemed to be pure ebony. Her orange eyes flicked up to the only source of light.

A stained glass window. Her lips were dry as she raised herself to her full height once more, head cocking slightly. As her eyes readjusted she looked about - the room seemed abandoned, and yet, there were whispers of an old love - and music. Instruments hung about the walls, and pushed into dark corners. All were coated in dust.

But these things were barely considered as she was drawn to the window with a single star on it. A claw-tipped finger reached up and touched the surface of the glass.

Sajhiri

On the surface of the window the star emblazoned there almost seemed to shimmer and move, pulsing with some sort of enchantment. As Lynx' fingers touched the glass inside her mind a strange, genderless voice spoke a question.

"Do you, Lynx, give freely of your spirit and essence, to free Astra, daughter of Vates and Fidicina, of her dread curse?"

The words seemed to reach out like chains, linking Lynx and the window in some odd connected power, waiting on the answer to be said.

SilverLynx
"Ahh..." Lynx was stunned by the power touching her, but she wanted nothing more than to help end the dread sorrow of these creatures. "Yes." She nodded slowly, her heart leaping with anticipation.

Sajhiri
The star in the window began to glow brighter, brighter, until it was too painful to even look at, leaving phantom spots behind even closed eyes. The light seemed to pour out onto the floor into a pool, which rose into a ball. It pulsed, grew, and then vanished as if never there. In the wake of the brilliant light, a child remained, looking exhausted, confused, and perhaps 5 years of age, old enough to speak and run about.

SilverLynx
Lynx turned to see the child, a look of shock falling upon her face. She knelt down immediately and blinked. "Hi there." She smiled slightly, the girl looked like kin, that was for sure! "My name's Lynx. What's yours?"

SilverLynx
The young fey stands up and smiles. "My name's Astra." She turns to look around and adds, "It's been a long time, hasn't it? I couldn't really tell - but..." Her crystal-clear eyes fill immeditealy with tears.

Lynx nods, touching the piece of paper the raven delivered to her. "Yeah. It has been. How did you know?"

"I could see it." The fey whispered, then dodged forward to Lynx's arms.

The catgirl seemed a little stiff at first, but upon hearing the girl's sobs, her hands relaxed about her shoulders. Tears hit her own eyes, and she bit her lip. This little one had been awake for a thousand years, alone. "It's okay." She said softly.

Sajhiri
In the courtyard below, Nox let out a sigh of relief, having seen the light from the second story. "Excellent, another has returned to the fold." She slipped inside and made her way to the music room, standing in the doorway.

"Welcome back, Astra..." She murmured, "Bard of the Moon Court, or you shall be when you come of age." She looked to the Kithain, her eyes glittering mysteriously. "You will find through the door on the other side of the music room chambers have been prepared for Astra and yourself. She will need your care, especially until she regains her strength after the transformation.

"I am Majestrix Nox, ruler of the Moon Court, and I bid you welcome into Castellum Umbra."

SilverLynx
Lynx picks up the child - light in her arms - and she nods respectfully, "Thank you for having me, Majesty." She smiles at the child in her arms then looks back up at the dark queen. "I will do my best."

Sajhiri
Nox quietly murmured "I shall leave you two to get acquainted." With that, the Majestrix slipped back out of the music room into the castle beyond.

Lynx wandered into the room Nox indicted, finding a clean bedroom, done in shades of blue and silver. Lynx set her down while she rubbed at her eyes.

"Miss Lynx - why are you here?"

Lynx blinked and tilted her head. "Why? Because I was asked by Queen Nox. I'm a relative of yours, it seems."

"Like an aunt?" the voice, to Lynx's ears is uniquely musical.

"Well, maybe," Lynx grinned quietly. "I'm not sure. I don't know who my parents are."

"No?" The child blinks, concerned. She sat up on her knees and touched Lynx's face. "You look like my mom - a little bit." She smiled, there is starlight in that smile.

Lynx smiled back, but then saw the little-one's eyes droop. "You okay?"

"I'm just tired, Miss Lynx," she yawned and sank to her side.

"Mmm...call me Lynx, okay?" Lynx pulled the blanket out from the little one, careful about her wings.

"Yeah, okay," she pulled at her blankets a little snuggling into them.

Lynx smiled at her, sighing, proud to have shared a bloodline with her. She felt tired herself, a little bit. She wondered at that - had something been taken from her to bring this one back? It wasn't until nearly a minute later she realized the little girl was singing.

"lo, li my child, lo li my love,
in your heart are the stars above,
I'll take your hand, and walk with you
to show you the moon and the sky, deep blue;
the glory of autumn, the songs of night,
to you o wonder, you are the star light..."

It ended on a stunning minor note, one to rend the heart and cause tears. Lynx knew then that the last person to sing that song in this room was the girl's mother. She wiped her eyes, the lulaby culling her to sleep, even as the sun began to rise over the mountains of Tir Na Nog.
