i always thought they were just for muscle building but i've learned that they can also serve as a parial meal, like i always have on in the morning with a banana, some milk, and some chicken.
What are your views on powders? Do you think it's kinda like cheating? If you enjoy powders, whats your favorite/best brand?

I use whey protein shakes ... I don't consider it cheating ... but I don't consider it a partial meal either ... if you do that that's unhealthy ... a protein shake does not replace a meal ... it is there to give you additional protein ... you can't draw enough nutrients from a shake for your body to work with ...

Protein shakes serve as the very last resort meal for me because there are times when I REALLY don't want to eat. I'm one of those weird types who don't get hungry often enough... it's in the genes. Normally, I still try to force feed myself a proper meal with the correct portions but everyone gets their weak spots occasionally.
For the most part, I use it for work out nutrition. My nutritionist tells me to, so I do it. Uhh... yeah. It does work though.
I use Iso Whey. 100% whey protein isolate.

Okay. Got a question for you guys. I've been looking around a bit and saw that there are other forms of protein power. Of course, this isn't news but I'm wondering about speed of absorption and what would be best.
Whey: pretty much a no-brainer that it gets absorbed pretty quickly. That's why it's a reliable pre/during/post shake.
Egg protein powder without the yolk: uhhh.... whaaaaa?
Casein: a couple friends were talking about how it's got a slower absorption rate, which apparently is great for people who want to gain muscle mass AND lose fat.
So about the casein.... while fat loss isn't a problem for me, I've been wondering if it's a good backup meal supplement because of the slower absorption. I'm thinking it could be like a shake snack for when I'm studying or something. Then I'd just switch back to whey when I'm working out properly or swimming intervals. Anyone tried casein or egg? What about the vegan stuff?

First off it was hard to answer the voting poll because ''Usefull or Useless'' can't be answered with a Yes or No question.. Anyway I dont think it's cheating but way back when like 1960's when boxers trained they didnt have whey protein shakes they had to eat the right foods in solid chewable form I prefer to train this way which helps keep up a healthy appetite too; handy for the holiday season aswell.. That turkey wont know what hit it.

OKAY This is ample opportunity for me to tell you all about a very special product that only came out on the market as of January 1, 2011!
It's called Mona Vie RVL (Pronounced "Reveal")
RVL is a weight management shake (not a protein shake) that is designed to be a meal replacement (along with the RVL bar which has so much nutritional value that one bar is equivalent to two meals!) Now, don't get these things confused with those high glucose-packed bars and shakes you can find in retail stores. Mona Vie is geared towards providing products that are safe and above all truly healthy for the body. I only recently became a distributor for this company and I am already absolutely amazed by the products and the business.

Just remember ... excess protein in the body is stored as fat ... so don't overdo it with the protein shakes ...

I've considered it a few times The only reason I haven't is because I'm not sure if they're vegetarian or not I'd like to try them though if they're not made of animal parts XD

emokid lalalala I've considered it a few times The only reason I haven't is because I'm not sure if they're vegetarian or not I'd like to try them though if they're not made of animal parts XD Take a look at the brands Vega or Greens+. I think those two are vegan but it's best if you double check. Whey is made from cow's milk so it's vegetarian but NOT vegan. Casein is also not vegan.
