-Favorite Companions- Okay, we've been needing a first discussion thread, so here we go. I know you guys all have your favorites, so why don't you list your top companions and why you like them. We can discuss them here and see where everyone stands. Feel free to tell us who you don't like, too, but no bashing. Some fans can be pretty protective, ya know. 1. Jo Grant
- An odd favorite, I know, but I just love her. She wasn't the most intelligent companion, but she made up for this in quick-thinking and determination. Her relationship with The Doctor was humorous and often very sweet. Besides, what makes a better companion than an escapologist who can pick locks?
2. Romana
- As if one Romana wasn't good enough, we get two really great ones. The Doctor's closest companion, they had a wonderful relationship full of humor and cute scenes. She was also his only companion to be truly 'on his level.' Hell, she may have even been a bit smarter. She could hold her own against The Doctor and the way they played off each other was great.
3. Brigadier Lethbridge-Stewart
- His relationship with The Doctor is hilarious. The whole love/hate thing always cracks me up, especially when he's working with Three. This guy could really kick butt, too. He was a crack-shot, a skilled tactician and leader, and I'm fairly certain he managed to score more 'bad guy kills' than any other companion.
4. Tegan Jovanka
- The "mouth on legs" was probably the Doctor's toughest companion (and the most argumentative). She complained a lot and always claimed to not want to be there (though we all know different), but was also strong-willed and brave. Stubborn and loud are good descriptions, too, but I always found this more endearing than annoying. She spoke her mind, did what she felt was right, and didn't just follow along.
5. Nyssa
- She was highly intelligent, strong, and could cope with all the insane situations The Doctor landed her in. She was a great person, too. So calm and logical all the time. She could negotiate a situation just as well as The Doctor, yet if someone had to be killed, she was willing to do it, even though she didn't want to. I loved the Trakens as a people and her intro-story was great.
6. Adric
- The boy wonder. Most people hate him, but I found him endearing. He was one of the Doctor's most intelligent companions and one of the few who could pilot the TARDIS. He could also pick locks with a metal star! Too cool. He could be annoying at times, but he was extremely helpful, dedicated, and brave. He's one of the only companions to give his life saving others, the entire Earth for that matter.
(Oh, and I forgot Peri. Hot, American, and could handle Six. Enough said.)

1. Donna Noble
-Oh man. After Rose and Martha, Donna was a breath of fresh air. She was spunky, funny, and DIDN'T have a raging crush on the Doctor. I think the dynamic between her and the Doctor was great because they were just really close friends and it's been a while since he had someone like that.
2. Jack Harkness
-Cracks me up. I can't help but love him. It's that smile, I'm telling you. And maybe the fact that he hits on everything with a pulse.
3. Peri Brown
-Because what other companion stands up to the Master like that in the classic series? She's a firecracker.
4. Tegan Jovanka
-I guess I just have a thing for mouthy, demanding companions.

Not a big fan of Jack and his constant erection, but I love the other three. Donna was so great. I don't think we've had a real, just friend companion since Ace. And so hilarious. "You're no mating with me, sunshine." Heh. She was so very Tegan.
And I just plain love Peri and Tegan. Peri could handle Six and Tegan pretty much was Six, well, way toned down and in girl form, but still. I wonder what would have happened in Tegan had stayed long enough to be Six's companion, too... She'd probably have killed him. Heh.

I don't know if I want to put them in any order but,
I liked Jack too. His sense of humor and wit was what made me like the character. Of course, he's not at all hard to look at. The fact he's gay is a letdown though. There go my fantasies.
I also liked Martha Jones. I thought she held her own quite well in the series with David.

Martha was pretty awesome. I didn't like her obsession with Ten, but she was such a great character. Strong and smart. And she's awesome with U.N.I.T. Anyone who joins U.N.I.T. is awesome, of course.
But Jack isn't gay, he's Bi. Or Pan. Or 'anything with a pulse.' Or were you talking about his actor?

Jack is pansexual. He'll sleep with anything he finds attractive. The actor, John Barrowman, on the other hand, is very gay. And a very talented singer!

Oh, right, I think I heard that on a show somewhere. Oh, and he is indeed. I heard him sing on The Weakest Link. He sang the Doctor Who theme song. So very epic. = )

Jack is omnisexual.
Ok... Here are my favorites. I haven't seen much of the ClassicWho so I'm sure it'll change over time:
1) Donna: she's the only one that I've seen who really stands up to the Doctor, tells him "no," and doesn't spend the whole time crushing on him/getting jealous of other women he talks to.
2) tie:
- Amy: another awesome ginger. And she's Scottish.
- Captain Jack: it is nice to have a queer (and non-monosexual!) character who doesn't fit into the "harmless gay man" stereotype. (It would be nice if he didn't fit into the "everything that moves" bisexual stereotype.)
4) Wilfred: I heart Bernard Cribbins. I still wish someone would have been like, "Who's that little old man?" like in A Hard Day's Night.

Yeah, I was refering to John as an actor and not his character, when I made reference to him being gay. He has a life partner who's been with him for years.

Rose Tyler- I liked her no matter what anyone says, she may be a Chav but she helped the Doctor she was there for him without her he would have died. I like to think Rose is the only girl he should have loved no matter what and I don't think he should let his hearts go for another. emo
Donna Noble- I loved this woman, full of spunk and kind hearted she just made you want to hug her no bad bone in this woman and she was also another woman who saved the Doctor's life.
Jack- Cause he was Funny hands down
Peri Brown- Heck I was named after her. Why wouldn't I like her.
Sarah Jane Smith- Loved her with four they where just such cute friends.
Leela- Loved how bad a** she was <3

As for Rose... Excuse me, what? I've got one word for that 'only one he should love' comment... Romana... I and II. I did like Rose, though, despite what I often say. I rewatched the new series and I've decide I like Rose with 9 and I love her by herself in Series 4, I just don't like her with 10. Or not as much, anyway.

gonk I know everyone seems to hate her. I really couldn't get enough of her with 10 or 9, I got all the books from the series. I dunno I didn't really see that conection with them...or maybe it was me but I never saw Romance between four and Romana. I like Romana 2 don't get me wrong she's arodable. But I never saw the romance

I don't hate rose at all, but it seems silly to suggest that she's the only love the Doctor had or should ever have. I mean, he's almost a thousand years old. Think how many people he must have know and traveled with. He was married and had children. The Doctor has a lot of love to give, even after all that time. Sure losing Rose must have torn him apart, just like losing his wife and everyone he ever knew on Gallifrey must have. But while it's still painful for him, he keeps moving forward.
I think there was a little something between him and Reinette personally. But that could easily have been imagined.

But I never saw the romance Oh, I don't have anything against Rose. She was kick-butt in Series 4. I just hate her over-importance. The truth is, she really isn't the Doctor's most important companion. He cares for her, Nine probably loved her, but to say that's she's the most important is just annoying. Not you saying it, I'm cool with that, I mean when the show was making such a big deal about her. The Doctor has had dozens of other, very important companions. Romana, Jo, Peri, Ace, Turlough, Sarah Jane, even his own granddaughter, Susan. It's the writing I don't like, not really Rose. Billie Piper was a great companion. You just killed my heart... *Death* Not really, but I'm very protective of Four/Romana. You really didn't see it? Tom and Lalla were in love and soon to be married in real life, so any love you see between them in the show is very real. Did you watch City of Death? It was basically one, long love-fest, full of holding hands and extreme awesomeness. Plus, they were just way too cute. I loved how obvious it was that Tom and Lalla couldn't keep their eyes, and hands, off of each other.
