Happy 4th Anniversary, everyone!!! Thanks for your ongoing support of The Legend of Zelda Hangout!! As we've done for the past couple of years, we are launching a set of contests this year to celebrate the anniversary of this guild's birth. For our 4th year we will be launching 4 different contests, and the rules and details for each are outlined below.
General Contest Rules
- Both members and staff are allowed to enter any/all of the contests from May 9th, 2010 until June 9th, 2010, which is when the contests close. Submit all entries in a private message (pm) to [.Torina.] or any of the active crew members.
- There are four contest categories and contestants may enter up to THREE SUBMISSIONS in as many of the contests as they choose (i.e. you can enter all of the contests but with a maximum of THREE entries per contest per contestant. Make sure it's your best work if you have to narrow it down! For the math-challenged, that gives you a maximum of 12 possible submissions)
- If a crew member decides to enter a contest then they forfeit their right to judge entries in that particular contest. So if a moderator enters all of the contests, s/he may not judge at all. As the host, the Captain is not eligible to enter and win any prizes (although she may participate for fun! lol)
- ALL CONTEST ENTRIES MUST BE THE ORIGINAL WORK/IDEA OF THE CONTESTANT. QUESTIONABLE ENTRIES WILL BE INVESTIGATED.
- HAVE FUN AND BE CREATIVE - the judging process will not only be based on skill level but also on originality and creativity.
1) Legend of Zelda Fan Art Contest Rules and Details
For those who enjoy drawing, painting, sculpting, photography, digital art, music composition, film, and other related aspects of visual and audio art, this is the contest for you!
- All art submissions must be the original work of the contestant. You may submit artwork that you have shared in the guild in the past.
- Photography submissions must be ORIGINAL AND CREATIVE (i.e. taking screenshots of the game or snapshots of action figures doesn't count). The challenge of creative LoZ-inspired photography is that you have to use elements around you to make your own original Zelda world and capture it on camera. We will accept photos of original cosplay costumes (but only if YOU made them, not just bought them).
- For sculptures or other 3D art, a photo of the submission is fine for an entry. HOWEVER, it must have a time-stamped signature somewhere in the photo proving it's your work.
- Original video submissions, such as skits and music videos, cannot exceed 15 minutes in length. Please be careful, especially with music video submissions, to avoid copyright fraud.
- For drawings and other forms of illustration, NO TRACINGS will be accepted.
2) Legend of Zelda Fan Fiction Contest Rules and Details
If you enjoy writing of any kind, this is the contest for you! Short stories, poetry/song lyrics, and other written LoZ-inspired works are eligible in this category.
- All entries must be the original work of the contestant. You may submit works that you have written and/or shared in the past. If a particular entry is quite long, and won't fit in a pm, please send us a link to your entry instead (like from fanfiction.net or LiveJournal).
- If you plan to submit a short story, please do not exceed 20 pages in length. If you wish to submit more than one short story (or parts of a "working novel") please limit each entry to 8 pages. Special exceptions may be made for past works that you wish to enter. Contact [.Torina.]/Akeyami if you wish to be considered a special case.
3) Legend of Zelda Avatar Cosplay Contest
Love to dress up your avatar as a mini cosplayer? Spend hours on tektek making beautiful cosplays you could never afford? Then this is the contest for you!
- Cosplay entries may be submitted either in the form of your own avatar OR in the form of a tektek/avatar simulator. If you decide to use tektek or a similar avatar simulator to create your cosplay you cannot submit more than three entries, and THEY MUST BE YOUR ORIGINAL WORK. NO COPYING OF OTHER AVATARS WILL BE ACCEPTED.
- Please be sure to specify who you are cosplaying!!! It is sometimes not entirely obvious!! (i.e. Soldier A? Who?)
- You do not have to be completely accurate with your entries; originality and a creative spin on characters is often well done and makes an interesting and appealing avatar. Show us your tektek/cosplay skills!
SPECIAL COSPLAY ARTWORK PRIZE FROM Farthingale: A full-color commission for the winner, and sketches for the 2nd and 3rd place winners.
4) The Gag Contest: Legend of Zelda PICK UP LINES
......What have I gotten myself into....?
- For this contest, anything goes EXCEPT you must be original and creative, keep it LoZ-related, and remember Gaia's rules regarding profanity. Keep it PG-13 for the kiddos, guys.
PRIZES
First Place in Each Category: One item of your choosing worth up to 20k in gold, another 7k in gold, and a large bouquet of flowers.
Second Place in Each Category: One item of your choosing worth up to 12k in gold, another 5k in gold, and a medium bouquet of flowers.
Third Place in Each Category: One item of your choosing worth up to 6k in gold, another 3k in gold, and a small bouquet of flowers.
Up to three Honorable Mentions in each category will be named and this prize constitutes a sum of 500 gold for each.

Note: we are still accepting donations for contest prizes. If you donate to Zashiye we can make the prizes even bigger and better!

I'd really like the LoZ fanfiction.... [may crew members be able to join the contests?]
Perhaps, just some jump-start ideas, that may fall or overlap in other contests:
Best idea for a Zelda game. Members basically create their own Zelda game....idea. Stating the story, it's placement on the timeline [assuming the Official parallel timeline], and etc. for the game.
A short reflective piece of writing that about your favorite Zelda game, Zelda song, chracter, etc.
Maybe a contest of the best Zelda tribute or Zelda character tribute video. [Must be posted on youtube.]
This idea will probably bring a lot of laughs....or head shakes.
ZELDA PICKUP LINES.
This idea might get heated...if it's taken like a political and religious discussion, Zelda theories.
And possibly something more warm and close to our heartstrings, our favorite thread for this past year.

Perhaps we could make a 2nd contest for art and writing in general, and for other games? Lol, and yes Zelda pick up lines. "If you were Ganon, i'd stick my Master Sword in you~" Yeah, lame, but whatever. XD Oh, and for the writing/fanfiction, it'd be nice if some of the fanfics were parodies. 3nodding
