Post here if you want to discuss something with the Guild members that is not in any way related to the Guild itself, Doctor Who, K-9, The Sarah Jane Adventures, or Torchwood. ^-^
To start things off...
I collect historical flags. Might sound like an odd hobby.
This is the first piece to my collection, a Confederate Tennessee Army battle flag. Commonly (and mistakenly) depicted as being the national flag of the Confederacy.
http://i550.photobucket.com/albums/ii431/sakurada_kaoru/My flag collection/IMG00155.jpg
Today I ordered a Jolly Roger (the pirate flag) and a Rising Sun flag (used by Japan in WWII). It's actually pretty embarrassing that my only piece in my collection is considered racist even in modern times.
EDIT: I'm having a hard time finding the Canadian "Red Ensign" flag anywhere. gonk

EDITx2:Found some on eBay.

So I'm thinking about writing a story... It's set in a multiverse... and no it is not a Kingdom Hearts ripoff... not quite anyway. XD
The premise is that a time travel disaster almost destroyed all of existence. The Entity that maintains the multiverse reconstructed it from available data as well as the various ideas, mythologies, and forms of entertainment people had, among other things. Thus making allowances for fan fiction-like stories.
But the disaster crippled it, and 8 pieces of it's power were lost. They bonded with 8 people in different dimensions granting them near godlike power. While that power is primarily for maintaining order and balance, it can be misused.
But when two Power users fight, the attacks seem to cancel each other out... but that power has to go somewhere...
I'm planning on having the material included be practically everything from cute little kittens to obnoxious jokes about 9/11 (a.k.a. the 2001 World Trade Center bombings). The idea being "Everything is okay to include, or nothing is". You know, like how Family Guy and South Park will make a joke or comment about pretty much anything without any shame?
I would prefer having it done in comic form. I don't like having to describe everything. Beisdes, what's more important? Your vision or the creator's vision?
But I can't find an artist. D:

I like the idea. I'm a little confused by it, but that just makes me more interested to see the actual comic, so I can figure it out. = ) I'd help, but I'm a pretty bad draw. I can do a pretty awesome stick figure, though. Heh.
As for the flags, that's cool. I actually think the Confederate flag looks really awesome and I don't think it's racists to think so. A flag is a flag. I was actually kinda ticked off when they changed Georgia's flag because of that. I really liked the older one. Now, it just looks silly. Plus, I could actually draw the other one when I needed to.

Grr... I got called a godmodder when all I did was make a character whose abilities were sampled off of other characters I liked.
But being truly creative in this day and age is impossible. The best you can do is take the ideas you like and dress them up or change them just enough to be your own.

How could I possibly disguise a Time Lord's regeneration ability... that ability seemed to tick people off even though the series the characters I was supposedly interacting with came from had 2 immortals. Besides, I love making pop culture references and/or being a giant pop culture reference in my works.

Nic Coay As for the flags, that's cool. I actually think the Confederate flag looks really awesome and I don't think it's racists to think so. A flag is a flag. While I agree that the flag looks fairly cool (purely aesthetically I prefer it to the American flag) that's not really enough reason to me to justify keeping the flag the way it was. What's important is what it represents to quite a lot of people: slavery and segregation.
...Although as it turns out Georgia failed epically by having its current flag also based on a Confederate flag design. sweatdrop

What about all the Confederate soldiers who died for that flag? Sure, they didn't die for the best of reasons, but they died supporting something they believed in, wrong though they may have been, and trying to preserve their way of life. We shouldn't stop honoring their deaths to honor other deaths. America is supposed to be unbiased. Georgia shouldn't have to hide or be ashamed of its history just because they lost the war. The flag wasn't originally designed as a symbol of slavery. It was designed as symbol of Georgia. Should we change the American flag because we were flying it when American troops killed Indians?

The fact that Georgia added the Stars and Bars to its flag right when desegregation was happening seems pretty telling of what their intent was, though.

Besides, I love making pop culture references and/or being a giant pop culture reference in my works. Then just don't use the regeneration ability. Try something less severe, like an ability to heal quickly, but not come back from the dead. If they're choosing to powerplay by making their characters immortal, you should call them out on it. Make sure you add flaws to your character's personality, like a phobia or a chronic illness that can't be healed away. Give the character's personality more than one dimension. Things like that help build a character better. Pop culture references are usually only accepted (generally) in parodies or things that are intended to be funny. If your character is "just like (somebody), except.." then they might be in danger of becoming a Mary Sue/Gary Stu. I'm not saying they can't be fixed (I have accidentally unleashed many a Mary Sue in my day), but if you don't recognize the problem, it's liable to get worse. Try this, if you're still having trouble. It really helped me a lot, and it still helps me from time to time.

It would be hard to find something that wasn't a pop culture reference in my story... for instance, the main character (starts out as a guy but becomes a woman after botchedly absorbing a succubus in the quest for immortality, so I just say "the main character") is depicted as actually going to the world of Fist of the North Star and time-traveling to copy the styles of all the fighters from the series at the moment of death, as it's only permanent (not a mere imitation) if done at the person's moment of death... and the main character is later seen doing things like Kamehamehas, N'cha cannons, and Kienzans, thus implying the same thing was done in the world of Dragon Ball/Dr. Slump. The main character DOES have the access to the data on other fighters, but when deprived of powers, that access is gone or limited.
Then there's where the moment(s) where the main character leaps at the opponent with a sword shouting "FRIEZAAAAAA" while cutting the opponent into pieces, among other things... one of my main character's traits is being a pop culture expert.

In the RP?
Being immortal (Time Lord regeneration), not reacting to pain (if you've practically died, why fear pain?), and having a camera that can see through clothing and closed doors (I GOT THAT FROM DORAEMON, DANGIT!).

Well, having the ability to regenerate is not technically immortality. Time Lords can still die. If they want to regenerate while at the verge of death, they only do so if they have the will power and want to do so. And, even after regeneration, they are left in a vulnerable state for some hour after the change.

Also, baring something unusual, they only get twelve regenerations. After that they die. So, if there are actual immortal character, I don't see that as godmoding.
The not reacting to pain thing though. I actually think that is godmoding. Not fearing it is not the same as not feeling it. Just because you've nearly died from a bullet to the heart (as an example) it doesn't mean a broken arm won't hurt. Look at the Doctor. He definatly feels pain, despite numerous regenerations, some of which very nearly killed him.
