Demons are the denizens of the underworld. Alot of cultures see them as the guardians of Hell, and the tormenters of Hell. Although in eastern cultures they are just another name for faeries. Demons are also known throughout many religions as well. Your job is to find out anything about demons for this weeks contest! ~kagome_roker

Demons are also referred to as Daemon and Daimon.
More times than not, they are depicted with horns and are red or black in coloring.
Different demon types include (but are definitely not limited to): * companion/guardian/familiar: a demon who accompanies another being, working as their guard, friend, and/or helper. (the term "familiar" is used for the helpers/companions of witches/sorcerers/whateveryoumaycallthem.) * devil: often used for brutal demons (but also other creatures) that take pleasure in making others suffer. * dreamwalkers: enter the dreams of human beings. succubi/incubi are subtypes of this category. * fallen angel: some people say that fallen angels can become vampires under certain circumstances. i think it's up to the angel to define themself as demon or not. * fear-eater: specialized in ingesting emotional energy, more exactly fear, they will do anything to scare you. i've written an article about them. * shadow/shade: don't mix them up with the kin type "shadow". these creatures rarely interact with humans and are often seen as a shade in the corner of your eye. * shapeshifter: most demons have an ability to change their form, behavior, and energy pattern. shapeshifters are very talented in doing so. * succubus/incubus: a demon who lives off sexual energy. succubi are "female" (seducing men), while incubi are the opposite. * trickster: a demon who enjoys (or draws energy from) tricking others - mostly without bad intention, but it's not unheard of that they caused harm to their targets. * tutor: a demon who teaches you things. be careful there, as always you could fall prey to an imposter. * vampiric demon: a demon who needs to ingest the energy of other beings. often specialized in one type (see fear-eaters). * watcher/observer: a very curious demon watching humans (and other beings) and trying to understand them.

Many think that demons are the minion of the lord of hell, the angel that was cast from heaven in the Bible, Lucifer, aka Satan. Some though believe there are Several demon lords that rule over them and have them do their bidding Despite what the majority of the world thinks demons and devils are different things and do not all have horns and tails they all have different looks and attributes For a reference of different types of demons I suggest my favorite site to research such things Monsterpedia

As was said, demons are normally depcted with horns or/and tails. And such, some religions are viewed as worshiping the 'devil' (or Demon).
Satanism, for instance, is one religion that believes in their 'Satan'. From their standpoint, Satan is most likely Lucifer, the angel who was once God's right handman, but ended up a fallen angel because of his jealousy towards God's power.
Wicca is also viewed as a religion similar to Satanism, though that is far from the truth. Wiccans recognise that there are many Gods, but worship 'two' Gods. 'One', you could say, being the Triple Goddess who represents the female side of the spirit and world. On the otherhand, they also worship the Horned God. The Horned God is what so many people believe to be the Devil, because of his horns and being very masculine (obviously, because He is the masculine part opposite tot he Tripple Goddess).
