I'm sure you all saw the announcement, I figured I'd be the first to start a thread about it.

I guess I don't really have a problem with it, except I'm having a little trouble understanding it.

Have they simply increased the chances of getting rare items if you invite friends, or have they done that AND downgraded your chances of getting rare items if you haven't invited any friends?

If it's the latter then I guess I'm going to be the first to speak out against it. To be honest, most of my friends already have a Gaia account, they either joined before I did or joined before the invite system was created. I can't be the only one to think that it's unfair.

But, yeah, does anyone know how the odds work now?

From my understanding, everyone starts out with crappy odds and then as you invite people to become actual users you get good stuff.

This makes me ******** furious because it's another thing Gaia has done to hurt oldies like me! I've been on Gaia since 2006! Everyone I know who would play Gaia already has accounts! I have no one else to invite! Why should I get unfair odds because I've stuck with Gaia in it's growing years!? The only way I could ever hope to get something beyond trash and bugs is to either make a dozen mules or start inviting random strangers from the street (Which I think many users might actually try) >_<

Actually, last thing I heard was that they're scrapping the idea since too many were against it.
And even if it had been implemented, old invites would count too. The "base chance" that you start with would not be lower than the chance we've always had in DC so no one would be downgraded in their chances of winning items.

The only ones treated "unfair" would be us antisocials and we who are too old to have any real life friends interested in gaia (you'd see the look of my fellow university students when I said I was playing with virtual dolls on my free time...)
