Do you own a rosary or set of prayer beads?

Did you buy it, or make it yourself?

Is there a set prayer for it? Did you write a prayer, or do you say something different each time?

Did you create it for a particular deity/ies? or is it more of a meditative aid?

Discuss! ^_^

I love prayer beads, but don't currently have any that I actually use. I have made some to sell, but then couldn't get the vendor's license to work out (still waiting on a response after 3 months -.-) so they're just sitting around.

I really want a set for myself, but I haven't decided what to use it for yet and don't want to charge ahead with it until I make up my mind. The one's I've already made now strike me as relying too much on the traditional Catholic and Anglican formats, and I want to do something distinctive for my own that speaks more to my own spirituality. I just haven't come up with anything yet. :-/

Hmm, in Buddhism prayer beads are called Japa mala, Mala (both Indian), or Juzu (Japanese), among others, and I don't have one, but I think I'd like to get one some day...

Do you need one of those? You couldn't sell them on ebay or etsy?

That sounds cool, though. Let us know what you come up with!

Selling them on Etsy is the plan, actually! But even doing that requires a delivery vendor's license in this area (it varies by state and that might not be the case everywhere), and that's where I'm stuck. I've been told the process is a lot easier in person and in other states, so I'll try again after I graduate and get back to my home state.

I have two sets of prayer beads - well one now actually. My original set met with an unfortunate accident and the string broke. I'm intending to fix it. I made both sets myself. I'm not big on using things others made for spiritual perposes - especially when it comes to prayer. It just feels more right to pray to my gods with the beads I've strung myself. It's more....personal I guess.

My first set (the currently broken one) has a specific set of prayers that I say every day. I wrote the prayers myself as well.

The second set is more flexible and I use those when I sort of pray randomly, or for a specific perpose outside my general prayers. I use the second set alot.

And I have a tendency to wear my prayer beads because I'm in college and I like to say my prayers while I'm walking to class, and such. It's calming. Not to mention the beads are really pretty.

Neither set's really directed at a particular diety, but more at all my gods as a whole. Although the set I use for my regular prayers is more directed to the goddesses I worship. I have this tendency to address my goddesses as a single divine mother unit. smile

You made them yourself? That's pretty cool! Are there any certain prayers you say while using them?

Mmhm. There's a certain set of self-written prayers that I say while using them. The beads are color coded according to the prayers so there's a different one I say for each color-set. I could pm you the exact prayers if you want.

So the prayer beads are multi-colored? Interesting! Most of the ones I've seen have only one or two colors. whee Do you have a picture of them, by any chance? ^-^
And yeah, I'd love to read the prayers! I've always found prayers really pretty, even when I'm not as familiar with the religion they come from. <3

Unfortunately I do not have a picture of my prayer beads. I'll take one though if I can remember to get around to it.
And I'll pm you the prayers then smile
