I had only heard the title, but now that I see this pic, I'm really interested. The animation seems exceptional (as of the best of Ghibli), and combining the name and the image, it's really appealing to me. Does anyone know any detail about the plot of this movie?

Interesting. I never read the Earthsea books, but I heard that the mini-series was a poor portrayal of the story. I hope Ghibli and Goro Miyazaki do a better job. (Yes, this is really based on Ursula K. Le Guin's books.)

The one with Kristen Kreuk? I love the Earthsea novels so when I saw the commercial for the mini-series I wished I had cable so bad...But I guess it makes sense that it was a poor portrayal.

Anyway, I hope Gedo Senki has some scenes from The Tomb of Atuan. It was my first and favorite part of the series ^^

Based on the Earthsea series by Ursula K. Le Guin.

The literal translation of the Japanese is "GED military history" or "A military history of GED". A more sensible translation is "Ged's war chronicle" or "Ged's history of the war". The official English title is "Tales from Earthsea".

Directed by Goro MIYAZAKI, script by Goro MIYAZAKI and Keiko NIWA, music by Tamiya TERASHIMA.

No music by Joe Hisaishi? Now I'm having doubts...He's one of my favorite composers sad

Oh, and for some who might be wondering, "Ged" is the name of the main character.

I also found out the movie is mainly based on "The Farthest Shore," which is the third and final book of the series. But thankfully, they're most likely going to show tidbits of scenes from the other books...Which I'm happy for because The Farthest Shore and Theanu are the ones I haven't read yet sweatdrop

^Dang, edited my post.

The novels go like this:
1. A Wizard of Earthsea
2. The Tombs of Atuan
3. The Farthest Shore
4. Tehanu

I haven't read the last two (for some reason it's harder to find). I also get the Eathsea series mixed up with that "Taran Wanderer" thing...The series by Lloyd Alexander I think.

Hopefully, we will still be able to say, "We love Miyazaki films!" Instead of, "We love Hayao Miyazaki films!" I'm highly anticipating the release 3nodding

My life partner likes very much Ursala LeGuin's series of Earthsea. He is very interested to see the Ghibli production of it. I will have to get a copy pre-ordered, if I can. 3nodding I have read the series as well. I don't like them as much. They seem to be stark and dark, gloomy to me.

has anyone here ever read "Dragon Song" by Anne McCaffrey? i think that would be a cool movie if Studio Ghible ever decided to do it.

I've heard the earthsea books are excellent but I am anticipating seeing what Goro Miyazaki is capable of.

I love Earthsea. heart Dreadfully exciting. I am also hard to please when it comes to movie adaptions of books, but Ghibli will probably have more luck than the SciFi mini-series. That was awfulbad.
