"Doesnt Matter What The Press Says. Doesnt Matter What The Politicians Or Mobs Say. Doesnt Matter If The Whole Country Decides That Something Wrong Is Something Right. The Nation Was Founded On One Principle Above All Else: The Requirement That We Stand Up For What We Believe, No Matter The Odds Or The Consequences. When The Mob And The Press And The Whole World Tell You To Move, Your Job Is To Plant Yourself Like A Tree Beside The River Of Truth, And Tell The Whole World--
--No You Move." Captain America Speaking To Spider-Man. Civil War Comics.

This is from a conversation between Johnny Blaze and a Texas prison warden in Ghost Rider volume 6, issue 24.

Johnny: "You read the bible much, Warden?"

Warden: "Can't say as I do."

Johnny: "You should give it a try. I've just started getting into it myself. You know how many people God kills in the bible? I mean, if you add up all the floods and plagues and fire 'n' brimstone. All the 'God smote' this, 'God smote' that... You know how many people he kills? MILLIONS. And what about the DEVIL? The big, scary devil. What do you think his body count comes to? A paltry TEN. The seven sons and three daughters of Job. And that's only after making a bet with God. Look it up. Kinda raises a question, don't it Warden? Between Heaven and Hell... Which one should we REALLY be afraid of?

"Dog carcass in alley this morning, tire tread on burst stomach. This city is afraid of me. I have seen its true face. The streets are extended gutters and the gutters are full of blood and when the drains finally scab over, all the vermin will drown. The accumulated filth of all their sex and murder will foam up about their waists and all the whores and politicians will look up and shout "Save us!"... and I'll look down and whisper 'No.'"

- Rorschach, Watchmen.

"Without warning, it comes. Crashing through the window of your study. I have seen it before... somewhere. It frightened me as a boy... frightened me. Yes, father. I shall become a bat."

"Ladies. Gentlemen. You have eaten well. You've eaten Gotham's wealth. Its spirit. Your feast is nearly over. From this moment on -- none of you are safe."

Frank Punisher Castle

PostPosted: Mon May 24, 2010 8:14 pm

By request, i'll be posting Frank Castle's explanation of how his family died in Central Park after he returned from Vietnam in '79.

"They hated that old man so much, they shot him through my family... The world went crazy on a Summer's day in Central Park. In the time before uzis and berettas, before nine-millimeter popguns ruled the streets... It was a Thompson, like the ones our fatehrs arried. I recognized it's rattle even as it's big, man-stopping forty-fives punched blood and breath from my lungs... I hit the ground beside my daughter. She'd been gutshot, badly, and when she saw the things that boiled and wriggled from her belly... The expression on her face was not a little girl's... My wife bled out later on the operating table, her heart a gaping hole her life drained through. Whenever I get careless, that yearning in her eyes creeps up and bring me to my knees... Right then, the old man's soldiers started shooting back. My son dropped wordlessly, without a mark on him. I took a breath that cut like glass, spat blood, rose to my knees, picked up the boy and searched in vain for entry wounds... The bullet entered through his open mouth. That was our picnic in the park... And now... Every night... I go out and make the world sane."

"Me, I know where I stand. And I don't worry about it. Because, when it's over, when they're all dead and the war is over... there'll still be one bullet left. To clear all accounts."

I don't recall correctly, was that from Year One or Welcome Back, Frank?

Anyway, my personal favorite Punisher quote would be a conversation he had with Daredevil during the Welcome Back, Frank storyline, where Frank knocked Daredevil out and chained him to a water tower.

Punisher: "You can't break loose in time. You haven't the space to throw the gun, maybe knock me off my aim. I've got my back to you. I'm wearing kevlar. It's got to be a headshot."

Daredevil: "Now wait a minute..."

Punisher: "If you don't shoot you've got a death on your conscience. A death you could have prevented. If you do shoot you're a killer."

Daredevil: "What kind of a choice is that?"

Punisher: "The one I make every time I pull the trigger."

Nice quotes. I forgot how dark and violent Punisher can be...I have old time comics so theres no real violent stuff...like the 90s xmen the bullets are lasers and the miss or knock you out instead of death. I know I have some old comics...time to get new ones

I've only read very few Punisher comics, mostly relating to the Civil War storyline. Most of mine are fairly modern with a couple old Deadpool ones. By the way, has anyone else read Siege #1-4? It's pretty epic.
PostPosted: Tue May 25, 2010 3:41 pm

Siege #4 had the biggest friggin' shocker ever.
Captain America getting a shot and "dying?" I can handle that.
Punisher getting ripped to shreds by Daken, then being revived as a Frankenstein's Monster? Sure.
Nightcrawler being impaled in the heart by Bastion's arm when trying to teleport Hope to Utopia? Fine.
But friggin' Loki HELPING the Avengers, giving all the Hood's men's powers to the heroes, AND sacrificing himself to save the world from the Void? JESUS CHRIST, I'm still traumatized.

Lol, agreed on all counts.
Although I can't hate but feel that the end was quite rushed.
Not exactly the climatic ending I expected, but oh well, still a good event.
One hundred bucks Sentry's gonna come back to life.

It's from neither, actually.

It's from Punisher: MAX Volume 1 Issue 1. The volume was titled "In The Beginning"
