Well? It seems people associate the word "love" with boyfriends, girlfriends, and romantic/sexual feelings. It bugs me. My friend is always embaressed when I say I love her because she thinks people are going to call her a lesbian. This gets on my nerves to no end.

She started dating this stupid guy on the internet for 2 days and she keeps sending him mushy crap like "ILY BBY <3333" and s**t like that. But Ive known her since like pre-school and she loves some stupid guy on the internet more than me. Does the common use of the word "love" annoy anyone else?

It annoys me when people say they love someone after knowing them for a short time (like your friend and boyfriend over the internet) but I say I love my friends all the time and even though they know I am bisexual they know I mean it in a friendly way, not a romantic way.

Well, I actually appreciate it when someone I care about says they love me. ^_^ It makes me feel appreciated and all fuzzy and warm~ <3

But people have different interpretations of the word "love". Some think that using it with friends is fine; for some, it may hint at deeper feelings. Why don't you just explain it to her that you don't mean it in that way? People are pretty self-conscious of what others may think of them, so I'm not entirely surprised that she's embarrassed.

"Love" has several different meanings. There are all sorts of "love", just as there are all sorts of cheese, and just as many forms of "love" exists as there are kinds of cheese. So, pick a love, and bon appetit.

...I'm hungry.

the most common use of the word is " with boyfriends, girlfriends, and romantic/sexual feelings" so that is what most people think of. try telling your friends that friendship is a non romantic/sexual form of love as a curiosity point and after awhile maybe they will adjust.

or just say I love you as a (dear/best) friend smile

for some, it may hint at deeper feelings.

For me, romantic feelings are usually just a tingly feeling whenever I see the person. Something that makes me want to kiss them and stuff. The kind of love I have for friends Ive known since infancy is so much deeper than a tingly feeling. But still, the "tingly feeling" is pretty intense.

Ive never dated a childhood friend, so to me, the tingly feeling combined with the love of old friendship seems otherworldly.
