Every guild has them, we're no exception. We find them to be quite reasonable, and hope you will, too. Just a list of guidelines about being in this guild and interacting with all your fellow role-players. Think of this as "Finishing School for the New and Uninformed." After reading this, you won't be uninformed anymore! Do the wave or have a cookie.
- 1. Grammar is your/our friend. I'm not even kidding. This guild is about advancing and becoming better role-players through experience, just as much as it is about using your mad RP skillz to wipe the floor with your enemies. And you can't make any progress if you refuse to acquaint yourself with good grammar. We like questions, it shows you're learning... so don't hesitate to ask if you aren't sure why your sentences sound so funky. Oh, spelling's your friend, too. Don't forget him, he'll get all pouty, and for goodness sake, be able to take criticism.
2. Quality is important, but so is quantity. While eight paragraphs about a cup of coffee are boring, it doesn't hurt to try and paint a fuller picture of the scene around your character. That said, we are not a community of one-liners. Repeat offenders will be smacked with a dictionary and then promptly ushered out the door. Everybody here should be capable of posting at least two healthy paragraphs per post. If you're seriously struggling, ask your fellow role-players for help. We don't bite, really.
3. A little originality never killed anybody. We don't like cookie cutters. Really. We go to Wal*Mart and burn them in the aisles until we get thrown out by cranky old security personnel. But our hatred for the little metallic and plastic cut-outs carry into cookie cutter characters. A tragic past does not character development make. Bring life and reality to your characters. Have fun with them! This is a place of entertainment, so by all means entertain yourselves. Mary-Sues and Gary-Stews will be shot with .50 caliber sniper rifles repeatedly. If they survive, they will be shot again. We will laugh.
4. Use your eyes. You have them for a good reason. Please read all the rules and all the information provided before you start making a character and hashing out a history. If anything is ambiguous or confusing, please ask. PM one of the mods or post it up in the discussion forum, we'll get to it one way or another. That said, we will not be shy in reminding you if you missed a rule or important guideline. Don't take this as the mods being cranky bastards hopped up on too much caffine, but see it as room for improvement. We like that.
5. Play nice. We're not your parents, and don't expect to act as such. Characters can yell and cuss at each other until they're blue in the gills, but please don't do the same to each other. If there's a problem, bring it to the mods and we'll address it. Otherwise, try to get along and keep your conflicts to yourselves.
6. Nobody--and we mean NOBODY--starts out in KoM as some steroid-chugging barbarian of doom or an all-powerful uber-mage who can wipe out armies with a flick of his little finger. We put a stop to that malarkey with a swift kick in the backside out of this guild if your stuck on being Mr/Mrs. Bigstuff.
7.Every level designates you character with a certain number of traits and skills, as well as weaknesses and shortcomings. This is what we call "Perks and Quirks." If a mod ever tells you to "mind your Ps and Qs," they are reprimanding you for stepping outside of the plausible limits of your rank and skill levels. Your Ps and Qs determine how powerful your character is, so don't get caught with you pants down people.
8.Please keep OOC chatter in the OOC sub forum. That's what it's there for. We will edit your posts and remove OOC commentary unless it serves a functional part in the story (i.e. states the location of a character, indicates time passage, etc.). Blatant n00bspeak will be set on fire, then deleted. Then set on fire again.
9. If you start a role-play...you are responsible for keeping up the activity within it. If inactivity reigns supreme within said rp, then said rp will be placed in the archive and/or deleted.
More rules will be added when we find new issues to address. Until then, have fun!
Sincerely,
The KoM Mod Crew
.
