For the past 233 years the world of Mundesa has been at peace with itself. While for elves and other long lived races this has been but a blink of an eye but for the humans and gnomes of the Itarion Republic it has been a blear of magical advancement and technology. New secrets once thought impossible to gain now spread through the young Republic like wild fire, increasing the potential for a better life to everyone within the Republics great borders.

However this advancement is also a double edged sword it seems. It has lead to a massive population spike due to the readily increasing availability of magical devices and healing. Having a home and job availability is no longer certain for the young outside the Order of Mages because there are just too many potential apprentices for the masters of the world.

As a result there has been an increase in the number of adventurers in the world. It was in this time period you, all of you, were born to your respective parents and it in within this time period that you live.

The year is 233 of the 1st Era of Stability and fate will soon take its course.

The sound of metal on metal range as the blacksmith and his apprintice slowly worked the hot iron into steel. This sound fills the air as the guard file out of the barracks for their daily patrols of the small northern outpost known as Grendel's Keep, named after the guard caption that had started the town on orders from the Arch-mage of the Order over three years ago. No one knows why the town was started but they do know that dispite the towns small size it did have an Order Branch and that alone settled the argument for most.

One inn caters to guests to the Keep and is name The Red Hare with a sign of a red rabbit out front to symbolise the name. It is run by a rather portly halfing named Trif and his three daughters.

((AJ and Vurgo, you are in the Inn. Aj's chjaractor his here investigationg the reason for the town. Vurgo your fighter is here because she heard that the guards need able fighters to help defend the town.

Cleric boy your in the Temple of Palor, you lived here ever sense the town started, feeling that the citizens of this new town could benefit from your healing.

Finnally Coffee, Oz is in the Branch because this is where you were stationed.))

((I notice I did not discribe the insides of your respective locations, for that I am sorry. though I'm not bothering with Oz's room, its totally up to Coffee as to what it looks like.))

The inn, like most of the buildings of Gendel's keep is made of the wood that covers the hills all round the town. A bar is on the northern side of the interoir, run by the owner of the inn. Tables dot the center of the astablishment while to the east there is a set of stairs to the second floor, where the rooms are.

To the west there is a stage where a troup of traveling bards sing of a great hero to the Republic, the Dark Knight, and how he helped defend the great captiol of Itarion in the early days of the Republic, over 500 years ago. The current song sings of how he single handedly fought off the legendary Tarrasque after his entire platton of warriors were slain by the beast.

The southern wall is where the primary entrance and exit is with two windows, one of which is boarded up because of a recent bar fight.

~

The temple of Pelor is a small stone building in the center of town. Currently it is empty besides the clergymen who ae paying hommage to their god with prayer. The alter is in the center of the building, designed to look like the sun with a stain glass window in the ceiling above, allowing the great sun to shine down up the alter and illuminate the image of the Parable of the Hungery Man. Pews are arranged in a circle around the alter so that all may bask in the light from the many windows and hear the doctern of Pelor.

Helena, a 19 year old fighter, had come over seeking work. A rumor about the guards needing assistance of some type was what she'd heard and she intended to find out what kind exactly along with how much it was offering for a reward.

Approaching the bartender, she moved a strand of her dark brown hair out of her eyes before making eye contact. "Excuse me but what exact type of assistance are the guards in need of here, if I may inquire?"

The large halfling doesn't seem to take notice of the young woman at first, preoccupid with a rather stubbern smudge on the glass mug he is cleaning. While the rest of the mug seems clean this last stubbern bit of grim just doesn't want to come off. Finnally the halfing tries putting some real elbow grease into it.

(Strength check 18 rolled -1 because hes a halfling = 17)

The glass shatters in the halflings hands, it seems he put to much umph into his task. With a sour look on his face the halfling pulls out the glass shard that managed to embed itself into his right hand with a slight, "Ow...," he then reaches under the counter for something and pulls out a very small wand, which he quickly shakes and points at the wounded hand, which glows with the light of devine magic and the wound seals itself up.

Satisfied the halfling grabs another glass and the same rag and starts cleaning this one while begining to scan the room, and finnally takes notice of Helena, "Good mornin miss, how can old Trif help ya today?"

Normally Helena heavily disliked repeating herself, but, for now, she would endure it. Keeping her eyes upon the halfling barkeeper, she began re-explaining herself, "Yes. I was told the guards here needed some assistance. What kind exactly are they seeking and how much are they paying for this help of sorts?"

Hopefully this time will be a lot smoother Helena thought as she patiently waited for a reply, preferring to get an actual answer this time rather than have to repeat herself yet again.

"Ah information," Trif said with his deep voice, "All I know about the guard jobs is that the guards here are a bit under staffed thanks to the recent increase in monster attacks."

At this the halfling shakes his head sadly, "Lost my wife to the beasts... If your looking to help defend our fine town then go talk to captian Grendel, he'll give ya all the information you'll need. He's probably in the barracks right about now."

Helena nodded, bowing her head respectfully for the barkeep upon hearing his wife had been lost recently. "I'm terribly sorry. I intend to assist in fixing this mess up for you and others here."

Without another word, she turned and began heading to the barracks to find this Captain Grendel she needed to speak with.

As the young fighter exited the inn she was bombarded with all the sights, sounds and smells that made up Grendel's Keep. To the south(and conveniently right across the street from the bar) were the guard barricks. To the east was the road heading out passed the towns wooden walls and into the wilderness and eventually into the mountains. To the west was the center of town, where the Order Branch and Blacksmith's shop were located, one could still see a group of guards heading down that direction, presumably to take their posts.

The sun had just recently managed to climb over the mountains to shine its light on the town.

Aust swung the churches thurible as he walked around the pews as the incense slowly plumed forth from its container. Letting out a slight yawn, a small but effective reminder from his previous night of enjoying drinks and merriment from the only bar in town.

Deciding it may be wise to first memorize her surroundings then head on to the Captain, Helena did just that for a bit. As she stood still, she slowly began looking around, taking in each and every detail, where shops and places were, what direction she would need to go to get there again; anything and everything that may assist her in the future.

When Helena was sure she'd gotten it pretty well memorized, she headed east towards the barracks, hoping this Captain Grendel would be able to be seen, preferably sooner than later.

As the young cleric went about his morning duties he found a woman wearing a set of deep black robes and hood asleep in one of the pews near the eastern entrance to the circular temple.

As Helena memorized her surroundings she took note of a man wearing a heavy brown over coat and a large backpack filled with odds and ends walked across her feild of vision, heading to the center of town. He had light brown hair and it was obvious that he had not shaven or bathed in a long time thanks to his five O' clock shadow and how much dirt was on himself and his cloths. His hair was pulled back into a short pony tail and the symbol of the Horizon Walker dangeled from his left hip.

(Assuming your still going into the barricks)

Inside the barricks there was a hustle and bustle. The night guards were getting ready for bed, taking off armor to sleep comfertably and the like. The guards don't seem to mind random people walking in.

To the far right you can see a bounty board on the wall though from this distance you can't make out any of the posters or jobs. Near this board a man stood in dull iron full plate minus the helmet with a claymore stung across his back. The man was very musclular and towered over the rest of the men in the room.

Taking note of the quite muscular man, Helena cleared her throat before speaking, "Excuse me, are you Captain Grendel? I was told to come seek you regarding a job that had been posted in the tavern.

[Yeah....it was in my post....oh well]

Oz never liked Gendel's keep. It was cold, small, and dull. The size was the worst, in little outkeeps anonymity was a hopeless myth and everyone needed everyone. He wouldn't have been so annoyed if he could just spend his days in the branch, occasionally cavorting with the upper class. He was an enchanter, however, and enchanters need to talk to someone sooner or later.

He didn't need anything in particular today, he just got a touch stir crazy. He used the excuse of 'practice' to head out to town, more to convince himself then anyone else. It wasn't too long before he could see the hare.

The hare was one of those places Oz just couldn't stand. Like most taverns, all he could see inside was despair. Unfortunately, the Hare was the one place Oz could freely practice without heavy scrutiny. Still, he never did like going into the place.

((Its all right, he wasn't really meant for you anyhow.

Oh and Cookie the keep is in a New York/ southern Canada climate. Long winters and nice summers))

As Helena approached and spoke the large man turned and his features came into view. It was clear he was half-Sand Giant with his large size and the light brown coloring of his eyes, hair and skin. His armor had the symbol of the republic on the front, a wand and sword crossed over a large shield, "You mean the temporary guard post?"

~

As OZ made his way to the Red Harehe saw the same man the Helena just saw not a momment before. However when they passed one another the man stopped and chuckled just load enough for OZ to hear, "Well if thats not the strangest aura for a wizard then I'm a fool... Hehe..."

Putting the thurible back in it's place Aust began the morning sermon. He spoke the parables boisterously as he looked over to the women in the pew.Once Aust had finished the short morning service he made his ways over to the women who had been sleeping in the pew.
