Since I am poor, and a number of our members love videogaming on top of RPing and Tabletop gaming, I figured i'd throw out some useful links and info about free games you can find on the net. If any one else wants to contribute, feel free. More Free Games = Maximum Win.

I'm going to start off with a bang here, folks. The first free game on my list is The Elderscrolls 2: Daggerfall. This game was originally released in 1996 and ate up a considerable amount of my computer time back in High School. Its a 1st person Roleplaying game set in a fully immersive environment. The game is completely non-liniar, and contains over 15,000 locations to explore in addition to the wilderness. While there is a main quest to partake in, the player also has the option of taking side-quests with guilds or temples, or even asking around the many towns and walled cities for odd jobs to do. Anything from delivering opackages, to assassinating rivals, to delving into dungeons on daring rescue missions. Other features include horseback riding, the ability to make make your own character class, the ability to make your own spells and magic items (as a member of the mages guild.) Changing seasons and realistic time of day, the ability to buy your own house and/or ship and, while the game is set to a point and click interface by default, one can easily reconfigure it to use a mouse-look and wasd keyboard set up. Easily the most immersive game I have ever played. And thanks to bethesda, its 100% Free. Check it out at http://www.elderscrolls.com/downloads/downloads_games.htm

You can also pick up the first Elder Scrolls game, Arena, on the same page, but you do not need to play the first to play the second.

Note: You will need the dos emulator, DOSBox, to run either of these, fortunately bethesda has provided a link to the DOSBox page on the download page. I also reccomend downloading the installation PDF, also located on that page, but since its easy to mis, here is a direct link:

And here are some Screen shots!

and finally, just to give you an idea of how big the locals are in this game, this is just one of the cities in the game.

So enjoy there you have it! I'll post more free game goodness soon!

Welcome to installment number 2 of the Free Game report. The next free game I'm going to introduce is a nod to the Old School. La-Mulana is a sidescrolling 2d platformer designed to look feel and play like a game for Sony's MSX computer system, a Japan only consol that was a contemporary of the Famicom/NES and the starting point for many of our favourite game series (Castlevania and Metal Gear to name 2). The game itself is fun and gameplay is easy to get used to (especially if you have a game pad). and its 100% free to download. The original game is in japanese, but there is an english patch available, that even translates the manual!(which I recomend reading.) The soundtrack is also fantastic, and I warn that you may get some of the themes stuck inside your head for days.

The background story is thus: You play 31 year old arceaologist, Lemezu Kosugi, a suave Indiana Jones look-a-like who recieves word that his Estranged father, an archeaologist himself, has decided to try to solve mystery behind the legendary ruins of La-Mulana. Due to the rivalry between father and son, Lemeza heads to the ruins to try to beat his father to the punch. in his arsenal are his trusty bull whip, and his portable MSX computer, for which he can find or purchase MSX carts to help him on his way. The game plays similarly to Castlevania or Konami's MSX classic "Maze of Galious"(which you can play a remake of here! http://www.braingames.getput.com/mog/ BONUS!)

Its pretty easy to pick up, and hard to put down

You can download La-Mulana via the link provided below, which is actually a link list for the game, the english translation patch, and the soundtrack!

annnnnnd here's some screenshots!

The Game is epic and huge and even has a bonus dungeon to play through after you beat the game!

And, it gets better! The company that made the original is now working on a version for Wii ware that looks FANTASTIC!

Here's the official website: http://la-mulana.com/en/

Hope you enjoy this free game! Next time I promise something with a lot more explosions!

User Image - Blocked by "Display Image" Settings. Click to show.Awesome first post, I'm a huge fan of the elder scrolls series. mrgreen

Now let me first say that I'm not a fan of the MMORPG genre. I tried WOW and some others and i just couldn't get into it, not to mention the fact that the games we're populated by a mostly unfriendly community. But when I came across this game it looked interesting enough, so I found myself downloading it. Just to give it a shot.

http://allods.gpotato.com/

This game has 6 distinct races and a wide array of classes spread over 2 factions to choose from. I found helpful community both in the forums and in-game most guilds will sweep you up and walk you through the game(if your interested). And if your looking to go it alone the majority of the game is soloable.

I fell in love with the game and the friends I met there.
and if your interested you can find me on the Nezeb server.
Look up Tofftwo and Toff on the League side and Aznaz on the empire side.

Awesome! I'd seen Allods before (Yumi pointed it out some time ago as she was gushing over the female models and their sexiness (sexy undead.... amazing...) But I may have to check it out if I can find time. I used to play a lot of RO, and that still holds a special place in my heart. But, I am always ready to try new things!

Well, I mentioned explosions in the last report I made, and this game has them a-plenty. Its also far more modern looking than the previous offerings, so if you're more about graphics, this may be more up your alley. To day's Free Game du Jour is Mechwarrior 4: Mercenaries. If you like big robots with lots of guns, and enjoy simulators of any kind, this game is for you. Even if you perfer 3rd person games, there is a decent 3rd person mode to the game that gives it a feeling closer to that of Mech Assault. Now I love Battletech/Mechwarrior. Back in the 90's Mechwarrior 2 was an AWESOME game. and I used to swear by it, even after the release of Mechwarrior 3, which I consider to be an inferior offering. The 4th mechwarrior, however, is an EXCELLENT game which brings back one of my favourite mechs in the mech pack it comes with: The Warhammer. (removed previously for copyright issues as its design is based off of a mecha from the Macross Anime series)
The game actually has a very large list of mechs to choose from in multiplayer or instant action game modes, and the single player campaign is also a lot of fun. The game works wiell with mouse and keyboard play.. and responds great to joypad play, complete with analog support. (I Highly reccomend getting a USB adaptor for your PS2 controllers.)

As for what the game is about, if you've never played the series, the Mechwarrior games put you in the shoes of a pilot in the far future, where the ultimate weapon of war is the battlemech, a large, bipedal walking battletank, usually armed to the teeth. The game plays a lot like a flight simulator, only your machine walks rather than flies. as I mentioned, you can also adjust the camera to a 3rd person view if you are more comfortable playing that way. As per plot, you play the captain of a Mercenary company who takes on jobs across the solar system doing everything from seek and destroy, to protecting cargo shipments, to full on military engagements. As you play you can buy better equipment and Mechs, or even salvage weapons from mechs you have destroyed. A little bit like the Armored Core franchise. But beware, your own Mechs can be damaged or destroyed as well.

There is also a strong multiplayer component as well as an "instant action" option that lets you play through missions from the single player campaign in your own custom mech, or just go toe to toe with waves of enemy mechs.

Tons of fun and totally free of charge. Download is available here: http://www.mektek.net/projects/mw4/download.html

And, as usual, SCREENSHOTS!
