Hippotherapy in Action! Amazing story! (:Hello! My name is Chloe, and I would like to tell you how I got started riding horses. I volunteer at a very special "Hippotherapy" center in Texas. Hippotherapy is a form of physical, occupational and speech therapy in which a therapist uses the characteristic movements of a horse to provide carefully graded motor and sensory input. A foundation is established to improve neurological function and sensory processing, which can be generalized to a wide range of daily activities. Unlike in therapeutic horseback riding, where specific riding skills are taught, the movement of the horse is a means to a treatment goal when utilizing hippotherapy as a treatment strategy. The horse's pelvis has the same three dimensional movement of the human's pelvis at the walk. The horse's three dimensional movement is carefully graded at the walk in each treatment for the patient. This three dimensional movement provides physical and sensory input, which is variable, rhythmic and repetitive. The variability of the horse's gait enables the therapist to grade the degree of input to the patient and use this movement in combination with other treatment strategies to achieve desired therapy goals or functional outcomes. In addition, the three-dimensional movement of the horse's pelvis leads to a movement response in the patient's pelvis which is similar to the movement patterns of human walking. A foundation is established to improve neurological function and sensory processing, which can be generalized to a wide range of daily activities and address functional outcomes and therapy goals. Hippotherapy can only be provided by a licensed physical therapist, occupational therapist or speech and language pathologist. Adults and children with disabilities can improve their posture, muscle strength, coordination, balance, sensory/motor development as well as speech and language skills when hippotherapy is incorporated into a total care plan for a patient. My job is to sidewalk with the student, or lead the horse. I started doing this in 2008, and I'm amazed at what a horse can do for people, even the people with special needs. Feel free to share your stories here!

You have a beautiful horse! I just have to say You Go Girl!, for choosing your horse over your boyfriend! I would have done the exact same thing smile I just started horseback riding but I have wanted to ride since I was really young. My family couldn't afford it though but finally now I am able to take horseback riding lessons! biggrin The horse that I am riding during my lessons is a cute old grandpa horse as I like to call him. He is twenty-two years old but he is very patient and sweet. I hope to one day become a Jockey and compete in also Jumping and Dressage.

Have e’er you seen the Pixies, the fold not blest or banned? The Pixies know no sorrow, the Pixies feel no fear... Age lays no finger on them, the reaper time goes by¤ I went to horse camp when I was in Girl Guides and enjoyed it. I didn't think I liked them all that much, though, because compared to my friend who dreamed, breathed, slept horses, and had a million horse games and books (which I refused to play and read), well, compared to her i wasn't interested at all.
She and another friend of mine started riding at a barn. Every time I came along I got bored out of my mind because I was just watching my friends ride horses. Nothing else. I didn't get to ride them, I just got to sit and do nothing, not very fun. But they kept bugging me about joining and all that, and finally I relented, mainly to get away from my house where I was having family problems. Less time spent in house= less fights, shouting matches, injuries.
About a month and a half in, one of my friends who I went with actually told me she wished I never joined riding, and that it wasn't as fun as it was just with the two of them. It hurt me a lot, but I'd spent money on breeches, and it wasn't worth it to quit and deal with my family- one night a week out actually helped a lot with the problems around the house. Besides, I'd been driven away from Field Hockey and Soccer and everything else I'd ever taken an interest in, and I wasn't about to give up this.
Now I'm not friends with either of them- one more than the other. Things fell apart, and being around the horses and riding was the only time I actually smiled and laughed truly. I moved up to riding twice a week, paying for my riding times while my parents paid for my lessons (long story short: I'd never stuck to anything as I was younger, so they insisted in supporting me for this).
So riding is the one thing I can look forward to when the going's rough and I need some point to not hide under my covers all week.
The horse in my signature isn't the one I ride (I change horses as I move up in skill), but he's neglected by his owner who just wants him for hacks and never comes to visit (I've seen her once, that's it). He's not really loved by anyone in the barn, and the other horses in his paddock like to push him around. So I love him, and I feed him apples every time I go up to the barn. It's gotten to the point that I don't even have to call his name. If I step out of the barn, or enter the paddock, he looks up and comes trotting!
//long post ¤ And are not sad for flowers they gathered yesterday To-day has crimson foxglove To-morrow will have its rose.

Hello everyone! I have been around horses all of my life. When I was an infant my mom would hold me on the back of our horse Sassy while someone else would lead her around. When I was 4 or 5 I started riding Sassy myself. My mother was my teacher and I learned a lot from her. Sassy was a Morab and an amazing horse. I took her to a couple of shows, but after awhile I realized showing horses was just not for me. I prefer to just ride horses for fun and relaxation. I currently own a Morab named Fancy-Me. She is a beautiful bay mare with 4 white stockings and a white blaze. I haven’t been able to ride her this summer b/c she has hurt her back. She was in so much pain a couple of weeks ago that she couldn’t bend down to graze. We have been giving her bute and have been rubbing her back down with liniment. She has her good and her bad days. Hopefully she will recover quickly. I hate seeing her in pain.

﹃ ЯIKKU "By the sea" Helena Bonham Carter ﹄ Well my name is Rikku, and I'm a cowgirl at heart. :] It was hard growing up without horses when I loved them as much as I did (and still do), but I made it and nowadays I volunteer at two ranches, one is personally owned. The other is a PMU rescue ranch where they take in neglected horses and drive up to Canada every few months to rescue horses from slaughter and adopt them out into new, loving homes where they can live happily.
At the personally owned ranch, I have been riding and training a mare named Sky. At the same time, I'm being trained to ride and train horses, so Sky and I are learning together.
Other than Sky, I ride a big ol' momma horse named Balarina (That's me riding her).
Other than Balarina and Sky, I loooove the stallion on the ranch. His name is Rojo and he's a registered bay Quarter Horse.
I Intend on becoming a farrier or horse trainer so that I can work with horses on a daily basis and someday own my own classy Arabian mare or a red/blue roan Quarter Horse stallion, either or, I want a horse of my own more than anything. I also am going to get into rodeo this or next year by joining the Central AZ Comm. College rodeo team, "The Vaqueros."

Ok so if thats not a link this might be
www.gahorse.com/List.asp?breed=3&cat=34&st=
My horse is the double registered AQHA/APHA Halter Horse I used him for western
I started riding when i incounterd my first horse I was with my mom on a vet call at age 4. ( I was a VERY mature 4 yr old ) The people who lived there had a beatiful gelding. I asked if i could ride it ( Luckly these folks were VERY nice ) they said sure i got on his back with no saddle and a halter and a lead rope and rode walk for a while then i turned him to a trot the a lope the a gallop then a run. It was the best thing i ever done. When i got home i asked dad. Can i have a horse? He said yes he bought be a throughbred ( he died ) Then i got the horse in that pic! Horses are my life. Ive been riding Western barrels herding and roping since i was able to enter compationans and already have made a name for myself maybe youve heard of me i hope! My nickname is Fly Like The Wind. My name is Hallie my horses name is Ace and i live on a small farm in Missouri and work on a horse ranch for my boyfriends dad P.S. I also own Aces brothers Alec and Alex there mom was for sale till she got black foot and died. So i have grown up around horses since i live on a VERY popular horse farm in the center of Missouri

She's very motherly, but at the same time, she's lazy. She's like that mom that says "Do it yourself. You know how." Hahaha. •
