Dream Theater is a band composed of the best musicians writing boring music. It's like taking a Ferrari and going the speed limit, you're not using the car to it's full potential. (Although I do recommend going the speed limit.) Nevertheless, I do like the band for old times sake. They were my favorite band for 2 1/2 years, and then I moved on, as my taste in music did.

Boring? Are you freakin kidding me? Dream Theater has 20+ minute epics. It's progressive as hell. There's all these bands that write 3 - 5 minute Verse, Chorus, Verse, Solo, Chorus formulaic songs that all sound the same THAT's boring.
So I don't know what you're talking about.
Unless you think that a band has to be super heavy to be not boring, which is bullshit. Otherwise, I really don't know what you mean by them not playing to their full potential.
Their music changes all the time, they've never had two overall same sounding albums. They range from heavy thrashy songs, to epic progressive songs, to slow acoustic songs. How is that boring?

Biohazard EXTREME Boring? Are you freakin kidding me? Dream Theater has 20+ minute epics. It's progressive as hell. There's all these bands that write 3 - 5 minute Verse, Chorus, Verse, Solo, Chorus formulaic songs that all sound the same THAT's boring. So I don't know what you're talking about. The last thing that I care about is how "Brutal" a song is (check out Scale the Summit, there one of my favorite). I definitely love progressive metal. I just think that other bands write more interesting, better structured music (Cynic, Between the Buried and Me, Dillinger Escape Plan). I just don't really care for the 15 minute jam sessions/solos in between every verse. They just don't grab my attention like they used to. To me they are very bland, and it only gets worse with every new album they put out. Like I said though, I have mad respect for the members of the band, because they are some of the most talented ******** alive. I worshiped this band for two and a half years, but everyone changes over time. I know when I was seven I used to rock out to Back Street Boys and Brittany Spears with my sister. I bet when you were younger you listened to s**t like that too, but do you now? Of course not.

Honestly, I thought Systematic Chaos was their best album since Scenes From A Memory, so I don't think they've became bland, or whatever.
I mean, I get some people might say, "Well, John Petrucci doesn't have any revolutionary riffs" or "I don't like the way Jordan Rudess shreds the keyboards," or whatever.
But to say they're bland... I dunno... I think they're the farthest thing from bland.
EDIT: Holy crap... Mike Portnoy left the band.
Man, that's devastating.

There riffs were good and ripe at one point in my life, but now I let it sit out too long and it's not as good as it was yesterday. You know what I'm saying? And holy crap! Mike Portnoy is leaving!!? Despite everything I said, this is sad news. At least I did have the pleasure of seeing Dream Theater live before this happened.
