Personal Information
Name: Mark
Full Name: Mark Joseph Tanner
Nickname(s):
Alias's: Geode, Earthmover, Boulder

Personality: When he is in the presence of people he doesn't know he can be very distrustful and cold. However, should you manage to prove to him that you are trustworthy and mean him no harm, he opens up and becomes quite warm and friendly. So far, only Charles Xavier and a few others have managed to become true friends to the young Mark. Mark can usually be found in the library reading or sleeping outside on the grass. Due to his quiet nature, some may make the assumption that he is stupid or dull. This is not the case, as he is currently receiving top marks in all his classes. He is a capable fighter, and is in excellent physical condition.

History: Mark grew up in the heartland of America. His hometown of Daleville was small enough and isolated enough that it had its own high school. A population of roughly 12,500, Daleville was an idyllic place, a really nice town to grow up in...if you weren't a mutant. Mark's powers had developed early. When he was five, he accidentally buried a bully up to his neck in a sandbox that was only supposed to be six inches deep. Another time, when he was six, he threw a tantrum over something childish and stupid and ended up tearing apart a sizable part of main street. His parents tried to shelter him from the more hateful members of the community, but they couldn't always protect him. As he got older, he managed to control his powers, despite the constant abuse he received from other people, people who tried to force him to use them just to justify their hate. Mark managed to keep his mutant abilities under control for several years, even becoming accepted among a group of outcasts at his school, kids who didn't fit in. He was the only known mutant in Daleville, and that made him feel special. While life wasn't easy, at least things couldn't get all that worse.

Except that they did. When he was fifteen, Mark was attacked by a small group of kids from his school. They were older than he was, and a good chunk of them were members of various sports groups. They beat him up, calling him a freak and a sinner and a monster. He didn't fight back...he couldn't. He tried hard to restrain his powers, but in the end, it became to much. His mutant ability exploded, spires of rock shooting up around him in a defensive barricade. He destroyed the school grounds, smashing the building itself into rubble and injuring several students and teachers. He fled the scene, fearing the consequences. He arrived to hi home...only to find he didn't have one anymore. It was in flames, people standing around waving signs and clubs. His parents were nowhere to be seen, and Mark could only assume they were dead. Before the mob spotted him, he left town, running for his life. He was alone in a world that hated him for something he couldn't control, couldn't change. He hated himself, hated the world. He disappeared into the wide world and was lost to everyone who had ever known him.

A year later, he turned up in Manhattan. He was living on the streets, a thin, homeless kid...just one person in a city of millions. He managed to control his mutant abilities, but he never regained his trust of other people. He avoided any and all contact with humans, living alone and never speaking to anyone. It wasn't until Charles Xavier found him that he found a new home. It had been a cold, hard winter for the boy. He'd avoided shelters and soup kitchens, fearing that someone might discover he was a mutant. He wasn't going to last long. And part of him accepted that fact. He was willing to lie down in the cold snow and die, because that's what the world wanted. As he sat in that filthy alley, slumped against the wall and cursing his fate, a voice entered his head. It was a warm, kind, understanding voice, one trying to reassure him that nothing was as bleak as it seemed. A bald, suit wearing man in a wheel chair appeared at the other end of the alley. He offered Mark a warm place to stay, with food and protection from the cruelties of the world. Mark, unsure what to do, hesitated. The man called himself Xavier, revealing to Mark that he was a telepath and the founder of a school for mutants. With a little coaxing, Mark finally left with the man, seeking the safety he had promised.

Now a full time resident at the Xavier institute, he has regained much of the health he lost on the streets of Manhattan, and even reconnected with his parents, who he had once thought dead. While no longer depressed, he still has difficulty making friends and trusting people, even fellow mutants. He is eighteen years old, and he has once again learned to love life.

A tall young man in excellant physical condition, Mark looks like the sort of guy you would see running after a soccer ball on a warm summer day. He has straight white teeth and a warm smile (when he smiles) and appears to be someone who can be relied on no matter what the task. Generally seen wearing Blue Jeans and a T-Shirt, he is almost always wearing his signature grey hooded coat. His hazel eyes are bright and intelligent, and he walks with an upright, determined gait.

Personal Inventory
Fashion: Mark prefers to keep his clothes simple. Blue Jeans and a T-Shirt are always perfectly fine for him, all though he does own a few dress shirts and pants. He usually wears good hiking boots with steel toes probably the most expensive clothing he'll ever wear.
Uniform: When in the field, his uniform is a simple one piece suit emblazoned with the Iconic X-Men logo. Black boots and black fingerless gloves cover his hands and feet, and a belt around his waist carries whatever equipment he might need in the field.
Jewelry Worn: A silver locket carrying a picture of his family that he wears at all times around his neck. In combat, he wears it under his uniform so it won't get damaged.
Items of Interest: A MP3 player, a cell phone, and a digital wrist watch are usually on his person. Also, he has a wallet containing his cash and a driver's license
Personal Gear: A black 2011 Ford Challenger

Other:

Powers and Personal Weaknesses
Powers: Mark is an elemental, one who can control the earth around him. Stone and dirt move at his will, and metal bends to his needs. He can turn fertile soil around him into sand, or encase his body in stone armor to increases his defensive abilities. He can control stone, dirt, the minerals composing them, diamonds, and metals.
Weaknesses: If he can contact the ground, he can't control it. Being lifted into the air, or contained in a room with no contact to metal, dirt, or crystals will render him essentially powerless. Also, if not coated by some form of his armor, he can be killed as any normal human would.

---

Notes: Mark works for a local Jeweler, cutting diamonds. While the Jeweler knows that Mark is a mutant, he doesn't particularly care. He gives Mark full wages and always treats him fairly. He is one of the rare people that Mark treats as a friend.

Journal

Mark's Journal is a simple, brown, leather bound book with a clasps. He bought a dozen of them at a book store for a cheap price, and has slowly been working his way through them during his time at the Xavier Academy.
