I am no different from anyother horse rider...I have fallen off my share of times...but only one time broke a bone. My collar bone.
One time me and 2 friends went riding down to the park and back, well we got to the park way to fast so we went a little further. We loped around for a bit and I noticed that I had an unexperinced rider with me(Jazmyn) So I told my other friend(Brittney) that we couldnt lope anymore because Jazmyn wasnt good enough to. So we head back to the barn...while we aproch the park we notice that there are kids at the park and we wanted to get home as fast as we could, so I told Jazmyn and Brittney to just trot by and just ignor the kids...well Brittney didnt listen and she went loping off on her horse Copper so my horse Mella followed...well since Mella and Copper went Jose went(the one Jazmyn was on)galloping off too. Well in all the excitment, my dogs start barking at the horses and biting their heels, so my horse Mella starts bucking. I didnt have my feet in the sturrups and I fall right off the sholder. I land in the grass on my head. I wake up like 20 minutes later with all the kids and their parents surrounding me as I lay on the grass. They had already called my mom and she was on her way to get me.
After we bring the horses home my mom takes me to the hospital to get my sholder x-rayd the dumb-a** doctor couldnt find the break so I had to point it out to him...he was stupid. THEN he just pokes my broken collar bone and says over and over againe 'Yep its broken' and 'Does that hurt?"...I wanted to kick him lol

I've fallen off twice before.

First time, I was at my friend's stables, on the horse she used to ride. It was like a free day. You just went, payed twenty bucks and were allowed to spend the day there. You could walk/trot/canter in the arena, or go outside (where it WAS slippery... middle of winter - two years ago) and walk/trot down a pathway. You could also do all that stuff bareback/double-bareback.

H'okay. Having never tried double-bareback before, I was really excited. So I got my friend, and we went outside with her horse, into one of the paddocks, ready to go. Only, there was no mounting block or anything, so I decided to use the fence. She got on first, and then it was myyy turn. Only, I first got on more on his butt, and I think I did something that really pissed him off and so he kind of bumped me off. I think he had the intention to push me forward more onto his back, but I lost my balance and fell head-first onto the ground.

Two points:

- This horse was at least sixteen hands tall.
- We didn't have to wear helmets. So, brilliant me, thought "YAAAYYY!!! NO ******** still don't know, but I'm virtually certain I got a concussion. I remember very clearly, how my hearing went really weird. Like there were giant megaphones attached to my ears. And my eyes went all blurry (not from crying - I think I was too much in shock to cry), so I could hardly see. I tried to get up, and did with a lot of difficulty, but found that I couldn't walk, so I just stumbled onto a chair someone brought me. And there was so much pain in my right middle finger. I found out later that I'd fractured it. But really all I could concentrate on was the pain in my finger, as the rest of my world had gone blurry.

And I remember specifically this one lady, a mother, telling me "Come on, you have to get back up. Get back up on the horse, you know the saying." And I felt like SCREAMING in her FACE, "YOU TRY GETTING BACK UP ONTO A HORSE WHEN YOU CAN'T WALK, SEE OR HEAR, AND ALL YOU FEEL IS PAIN!"

When I went back to my own stables, a few weeks later, I told my teacher about it on my way into our arena. She was outraged that I hadn't been wearing a helmet (but I refused to tell her which stables I'd been at). And I remember her saying to me, "well don't worry, Diva will keep you safe." And since she said that, I've been THIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIIS much more grateful for Diva. It was just such a sweet thing to say...

The second time was stupid. I was just trotting a random horse at my stables and I lost my balance. I don't remember much about it, it didn't even hurt much. I fell really well. I know my mum came running out of the barn to check if I was okay (that sixth sense they have..).

To the point ^ yeah o.O got a story to add to that.

When I started... well... being half decent at barrel racing, I had only fallen off once. One snobby girl who thought she was better than everyone at riding was like "Have you ever fallen off of a horse?" and I said "once... and it wasnt too bad, I've been lucky" and she goes "tch! Then YOU are DEFINATLY not a good rider." O.o;;

I was like "Ouuukee...uh... someone's stuckup. You're the one plodding around on a bullet proof kid's horse while I whip round barrels at breakneck speeds litle girl" She wasnt very happy at that O.o;;

Anyways, now I've had my share of falls (at least 10 o_o) and one of my worst wasnt the fall, but what happened after...

I had to get off during a trail ride, and the leader didnt stop (trying to make this short) so I fixed what I needed to, and tried to get back on my horse who was all nervous about being left behind. She was turning circles and trying to break away from me. Anyways, once I managed to get my foot in the stirrup and pull up, the reins slipped and she bolted, so I pulled myself up quick, but over shot it. I hung over her side for a bit with my arm hooked on the pommel and my knee on the cantle but in the end my arm slipped and I fell. THEN the idiot horse kicked me in the head o_o

luckily she only nicked me and there was no more damage than a scrape... well, on my head anyways. I fell off right onto a gravel road (ouch!!)

end rant! =D

im the best at falling off my horse!! gather round and ill tell the story....

one beautiful morning i woke up at 5:00. every day at five i ride one of my horses down to the mall.(they keep my horse in the back)i grab a bagel a bag of carrots and two bottels of water. later when i got back i changed dallas into his jumping saddle(after i gave him a good rubb down though). i mounted my horse with out cheacking my girth (im slow in the morning).i was troting around the ring and dallas kept on stopping or slowing down (he's too smart. i love him). i finally got him into a fast canter and i leaned in. he aimed perfectly to a jump and flew like a birdey!(inside joke with my friend)!
the saddle slipped upside down and so did I. he accidently kicked me in the head*it still hurts*. i fell off and landed on the jump next to it i got up and slipped in the mudd. i didnt break my head or any thing!!! the moral of this story is give your horse carrots befor you practice!!! biggrin biggrin biggrin biggrin

and heres dallas!!

I consider myself pretty lucky when it comes to falls.

I was riding Mac when I asked for a nice, easy canter. He starts bucking like he was meant for a rodeo! He's a pretty new horse so I had only cantered him once before, and he did fine. I managed to stay on for 4 or 5 bucks, but then I just went sidways off him. He ran off and looked in a mirror, preening at himself, batting his eyelashes! I could have killed that horse...

I haven't ridden him since then, that was 2 months ago. I sat on him for a brief moment, though, got freaked out thinking about it and got off.

Fall 1&2: One of the falls was mounting and the other was dismounting can't remember which was which... two ponies Hal and Starlight can't remember which was which.

Fall 3: First time to ride pony Bertie pretting harmless slightly lazy pony. Jumped big! (me little) I was left clinging to his shoulder scared to fall (my first actual proper fall) gave up and slid off.

Fall 4: Tried to get on without tightening girth saddle slipped so did I on pony Jasper.

Fall 5: On little pony Rosie it was summer we were almost finished our hour lesson Rosie was pawing at the ground I thought it was harmless not a sign, Rosie got down and rolled (almost on me but I got off in time and was cornered in a emm... corner.

Fall 6: On lazy Jordan (don't still quite get how this happened) I was at the end of the ride we did right turn across the arena and instead of turning left we went right on the other side, so I was lead file. Jordan didn't like this so he turned into the centre of the arena and started doing the smallest possible bucking and rearing... smallest possible! I somehow went head first over his left shoulder and flipped around and landed on my back. I was just winded.

That last one was probably the closest to a serious fall. I've gone onto ponies' and horses' shoulders a few times after jumps. You know when they jump big and you're not ready so you land on their shoulders infront of the pommel. I've done that mainly on Apollo.

Oh God. The physical pain must have been horrible, but it must also have been a really scary experience. And then getting kicked... Eeek.

What you said reminded me of a story. I didn't fall off or anything, but it was icky.

So, my stables are euh.. English saddle. I don't know if that makes any sense, though. We don't do anything Western. But last summer, I helped out a lot, with little kids who were learning to ride and such. So I was there a lot. And my teacher (the owner of the stables) decided to invite all of us who were there a lot to a trail ride! I was happy and all because I'd only been on two trail rides before, and they'd been amazing. We were about fifteen people.

Okayso we start the ride, and Diva is acting up a bit. She's going too fast, like she's trying to get to the front. So I'm holding her back, and she's getting upset. But I figured she must be excited to be so far from the barn, and that it would stop soon. Oh boy, was I ever wrong.

See, the thing is. Diva is not a nice mare. She lubbles humans (except for when it's girth time), but when it comes to other horses, ********. And I found out (only after the ride) that before she came to those stables, she was a... uh... a hunter horse? Like, she would go on hunts. And her job was like, to gather everyone together or something. To make sure no one fell behind.

Are we seeing the problem yet? See, Diva couldn't be at the front of the line, in case she went on a wild rampage and decided to kill all the horses. So she had to be at the back. And as we weren't all stuck together (because these horses aren't used to trail rides - they weren't taught to walk with their noses at each others' butts, and WE were taught to keep them at a fair distance from each other in the ring) she felt like she was being left behind, as well as a lot of the other horses that were at the end of the loooong line too. And that wasn't going down well with her.

So she gave me an extremely hard time. She was going too forward, so I had to pull her back (I knew how dangerous it can be for Diva to be near other horses). But every time I pulled on the reins, she would throw her head back very angrily. And then after a while it got REALLY bad, and I had to pull as hard as was in me just to keep her at a walk. She was ready to canter.

And I'd forgotten my gloves.
My hands hurt for days afterward.
Inowhatetrailrides.

D: I'm sorry I'm not good at keeping stories short. ):

I like long stories... I just hate writing them myself, but I have one, this is probably my worst riding experience, I didn't fall off or anything it was just scary, I had no control.

I was going on a trail ride in France once. I was given this pony called Mamow(well that's how it sounded I think it's French for Meadow) Well I was mounted and so were all the other horses. I was with my dad and my brother. The rest were all French and I think they were regulars. The minute the woman was finished tightening my girth and doing my stirrups(I was young at the time and wasn't an experienced rider) I lost control and Mamow was copying the other horse doing whatever she liked. She went to get hay and water from troughs(we were outdoors) She bit at other horses and walked right up behind them(I was positive they'd buck). So I was scared. We started the trail ride and she was acting up and we were ment to go trotting but the lead file decided not to because of the way Mamow was acting. My brother wanted to trot he had the best horse and my dad's horse kept rolling. I was brought up to second place behind the lead file only to find out that Mamow hated the lead file horse. She kept biting at her hind-quarters and the lead file kept bucking. The woman on the horse was really nice though she was attemtping English asking me if I could canter and gallop(which was a no) If I could jump. When we got back Mamow started going for the hay a water again... but I was thrilled that I could get off her. I was searching for my dad but he was on the other side of the field with another helper leading his horse back(my dad couldn't ride the horse because it kept rolling so he was walking back!)

Well that's a story of mine.
