For the most part, I agree. I think you can be attracted to someone, and that can lead to an amazing relationship and true love, but the attraction isn't the love itself.
But I don't think true love is as selfless as you say. If you truly and honestly value another's well-being over your own, it's for a selfish reason. It's because he/she/it makes your life worth living. Because even dying for someone you love is for your own sake. Going through the death of a loved one can be one of the most painful experiences of your life. It's not about his/her/its safety. It's about you not wanting to live without him/her/it.
