Mad Hatters Revenge

PostPosted: Sat Jun 19, 2010 12:34 pm

THERE ARE RULES FATHER DOWN THIS POST! (Some are missing them, so here's a warning and now they're bold/underlined.)

I've seen a couple games going up on the forums, so I felt the need to start one in the book section. I'm poor, so this game is simply for the fun of seeing who's read what books, and how much of them you remember!

I've read a lot of books from a large variety of genres, so this shouldn't be overly biased.

It's simple, I'll post a quote, and it'll stay up for a week (unless someone guesses correctly, then I'll put up a new one).

You can win be either guessing:
The Title of the book.
The Author (which normally means you know the book, but sometimes quotes will be from a series of books, which means you remember who wrote the, but not which one it was from. I've done it multiple times).

If you can guess both, awesome. I'll have a list of 'winners' as well as answers as the next post. I hope everyone at least finds it fun, if not challenging. Every now and then I might post a 'prize', I just don't want to promise a certain amount each time and then end up poor. If there is a prize, it will be posted next to the quote.

RULES:
-Please try to not use a search engine if you don't recognize it at all. The point of this is to see who knows what books, so please wait at least 2 days before searching. This isn't about winning, it's about learning who reads what, and learning about new books you might want to read. So IF you're going to use a search engine, please be honest and say so when you post your answer. Just remember, search engines don't always tell you the correct answer wink
-BE POLITE. If you don't like the book or an author that's referenced here? Keep negative feedback to yourself. I'm aware that not everyone here enjoys every author on the planet (I can name one very popular author who I despise, but I won't).

-If you have any that you would like to put on here? SEND ME IT WITH THE ANSWERS. You will be credited for the donation, but of course you won't be able to guess that quote. Anyone is welcome to donate to this game. Please PM all suggestions/quotes you'd like to see on here to me, and I will get them up as soon as I can!

-Enjoy!

-This is where ALL the quotes will be listed. The newest ones will be at the TOP of the list, and everything below that will be previous quotes along with the answers and who guessed them correctly.

6) "Weakness births destruction. No exceptions." Prize: 4,000
-The Darkest Passion by Gena Showalter, Winner: Hayos

5) "Without love we are birds with broken wings." Prize: 2,000
-Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom Winner: The Suppressed Destroyer

4)"The way to trick death: Breathe in. Breathe out." Prize: 2,000
-The Ice Queen by Alice Hoffman Winner: Matsu x

3) "You know what the sun looks like? Like he slit his wrists in the bathtub and the blood is all over the water. And the moon is just watching. She's just watching him die. She must have driven him to it." Prize: 2,000
-"Tithe" by Holly Black Winner: Hayos

2) "I think that all of us are born with a hole in our hearts, and we go around looking for the person who can fill it." (While this author is popular, many will have a hard time putting this quote with them. So there is a bigger PRIZE: 4,000 gold.)
-Wolves of the Calla: The Dark Tower V by Stephen King. Winner: Matsu x

1) "You don't have to test everything to destruction just to see if you made it right." (This book is by a fairly popular author, so it shouldn't be too long before one you recognizes it. PRIZE:2,000 gold)
-Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. Winner: Hayos

-Edited-
You can use search engines, like I said, I just want everyone to at least be honest that they used one. I'll wait a little while, if no one guesses correctly without an engine in two days, you can claim the prize. Sound fair?

Sounds good to me!

Tomorrow (June 21st) after the time of the second post (the one with the quote in it), answers found through search engines will be allowed. (So Hayos will be our first winner unless someone comes along who knows it before then.) I'm posting this so I get in the habbit of letting everyone know when it's been 2 days. I'll try to post them WHEN search engines are allowed, but I'll be at the dentist tomorrow at that time -_-.

Sounds familiar. I'd say Terry Prachett... though which book I can't say... not without some re-reading anyway. xD

1)Good Omens by Neil Gaiman and Terry Pratchett. Winner: Hayos

Now that everyone knows the rules, from now on NO SEARCH ENGINE ANSWERS WILL BE ALLOWED IN THE FIRST TWO DAYS. After the first 2 days, whoever posts the correct information first in this forum (along with what search engine you used, out of curiosity), will be the winner.

Our new quote is up, WITH A BIGGER PRIZE! Mostly because I feel this one will be harder for people who've read the book to realize it was even in it. smile Whoever knows this off the top of their head will be my favorite wink .

Good luck everyone!

Ugh, this quote sounds so familiar, but I can't put a title or author to it....this is so frustrating.

That's right! Stephen King used the line in the book Wolves of the Calla: The Dark Tower V (I'm pretty sure anyway, there are 8 books total in that series, but I'm 98% sure it was in Wolves).

Congrats Matsu x! Your prize is on it's way.

Our next quote is up! Remember to wait 2 days before using search engines!
