So after rejoining FFXI after almost a 2 year hiatus, I've come back only to discover that people no longer level in Valkurm Dunes after level 10. They solo till about level 12 or with an occasional party, and then a lot of times will do whats called a Summoner Burn. Where 3 level 75 summoners, 2 leeches, and a level sync will party up. The level sync is around level 12. They will enter Korroloka tunnel and have 1 or 2 level 75 RDM/NINs pull almost all 200 mobs in the tunnel and bring them back to camp. All 3 summoners will then 2 hour all these mobs and kill them all almost instantly, taking you from level 12 to about level 20 in a matter of seconds.
What are you opinions on this tactic of leveling, sure you get quick exp but your skills suffer quite a bit and you must take the time to skill them up later. I personally think Square should find a way to fix this as I think its more or less level sync system abuse / massive power leveling. It seems like a cop out of the game and has really destroyed the beginning leveling portion of the game, in my opinion at least. The game used to have you party with other people from level 10 on, now people are jumping straight to 20 with these burns, and a guy in my current LS said he went from 12 to level 75 on summoner burns alone in about a 8 days. That seems completely ridiculous to me. I don't know if what he said is true but whenever I try to argue why Summoner Burns are bad he resorts to "You only think its bad because they weren't around when you used to play." No, I genuinely think they are just a bad idea overall and are ruining the beginning leveling portion of the game for players.
What are you guys opinions on them?
Anyway thats my 2 cents on it. tl;dr I don't like them.

lol, yep, it's crazy leveling. i've known about this since shortly after sync came out, but i've never been in one, although i was invited once and declined (had to sleep). i don't think SE is concerned about it, because honestly, not a whole lot of people get to do this. you have to have good friends or dualboxed characters to do it. and you need corsairs to give you back your 2hr. it's just not something the average player will get to do.. only the spoiled or lucky ones. it's more of an endgame player party imo.

Not as far as I can tell, anyone with a level 12 job shouldn't have to hard of a time getting one. My friend got invited on his monk randomly last night to be the level sync for one, and I myself got invited today while playing on my Thief. And my LS seems to be in agreement that its fairly easy to find one. =/ I hear SE doesn't care about it though as they think its an acceptable use of level sync. I don't really think this is true as I've never seen a source and they frown upon power leveling soo...

From a Summoner's stand point it's the best thing since Fried Chicken. Parties are really scarce on my Summoner. I guess it's because it gets out shined in the buff/sub heal aspect.
Yes, It is a cop out of the game. But have you seen the community lately? People don't want you unless you are a Samurai/Dragoon/Corsair/Bard/Paladin/Red Mage. Everyone else has different ranks on the totem pole when it comes to XP parties. Some of us don't have lots of hours to put into the game to be waiting on a party. I myself would rather spend 5 hours farming than 5 hours seeking. Money = Potential Levels for jobs that don't really shine in XP parties which is only like 20% of the game. :/ Black Mage for example excels in things like BCNMs, Battlefields and HNMs. But dear lord I can't remember the last time I've seen a manaburn xp party.
I think in good moderation Astral Flow is a life saver for certain jobs and people. But I still advise getting xp party experience.. I mean this 75SMN with Relic asked me what the summoner does exactly in XP parties. I "=/" at first but.. atleast he's making an effort to learn.
I also agree to the fact that they better catch up their ******** weapon/mage skills... I hate seeing those 2handed users whiff so much. It's embarassing.
The only thing I don't agree with is how much pullers are making off these leech spots. That's redonkulous kind of money to be made. 150-300k a pull?.. {No, Thanks}

The more I continue to play the more I continue to hate SMN Burns. My friend who only just started for the first time 4 days ago, already has a level 30 MNK, and a BLM, WHM, and WAR all level 24 thanks to SMN Burns. It completely destroys all the time and effort I put into getting my jobs that level on my other character. I Don't know maybe its just me...

I like progressing threw the game at a somewhat normal rate with mei, kamy, and the other people iv met so far while playing again. I feel sorry for your friend. Iv know people who just started playing(this was about a year ago) and do the same thing and when it came to party's latter on their skill lvs where way to low and they didn't know how to play their class or simple mechanics of the game you learn while working your way up.

Yeah I know what you mean. Hes going to be awful when he gets into higher level parties. I don't see how half of his attacks miss or don't do much damage because I know he hasn't skilled up at all. Also add THF and RDM to those level 24's he has now thanks to SMN burns. 6 days played now. So all of his starting jobs are 24 Plus now and hes trying to find one on his DRK now...

Also lving should be something earned as a group not just leaching off others.

I may not have played XI for long, nor did I get past level 20, but I spent a long time and a lot of effort getting there. The fact that some characters are able to bypass all of that work is just wrong. I can understand wanting to level up ASAP, but to do it in just 2 hours? Takes out most of the fun. Again, though, I can understand wanting to get leveled, especially when I hear that getting XP parties is crazy these days.

Though Summoner burns are also possible thanks to the Level Sync system...

It's the finding of parties that I hear are hard to do. *shrug* I can understand how an XP party has an easier time of gaining experience, but the formation of the party is the tricky part....from my understanding.
