When The player, Felicity "Tuesday" Lockhart, is ready, she will post the character she wishes to play including race , gender, class/job and weapons/tools. pluis a brief description. I will look it over and announce any changes, then I will start the game. When rolling is needed, I will say roll in the post, your next post and mine in the event of a roll off will simply be a dice roll with the posted phrase "rolling"

In case of a skill check (using lock picks for example) I will say "Roll, success on a 17 or higher" or whatever number I choose for the perameter. we will be using D20s, unless I mention otherwise specifically.

Alright, here goes..

Sinnika Medlan, human, female, linguist/apprentice scribe. Weapon: A plain dagger, though she often carries a few heavy spellbooks on errands and has been known to throw them in a pinch.

Apprentice to a prominent printer/scribe, Sinnika hates her employer, her boss, and most of the people she comes across, attempting to rebel by studying spells or combat instead of working and hoping she'll be fired. She doesn't particularly like to fight verbally or physically, but once something is started she's compelled to be the one to finish it.

Ok, Sinnika. You have the following spells in your repetoir, Magic missle, light, Sleep, detect magic/traps and Fireball. You have 10 spell uses total. Use them wisely.

The situation is thus: Being rebelious and rather bored with your life as a scribe you have taken up a bounty job offered by the local Duke Brisbane. Brisbane has hired you to trackdown a group of bandits who are using an old abandoned temple as their base of operations. Their leader, Malarus, is an expert in the black arts, and seems to have come into possession of a letter from the Duke to The Countessa of Betany containing information of a rather personal nature. It would be disasterous if this information got out. The mission is to retrieve the letter. If the seal is broken, however, you will also have to kill Malarus to insure the information dies with him. You will be compensated handsomly for your efforts, handsomly enough to embark on a career of your own. You will be acompanied by Triskal, the half elven ranger. He is loyal to the duke and is there to assist in any way he can.

At the outset of this adventure you have just reached the outskirrts of the temple. The temple is located in a clearing in the middle of a forest. the clearing is roughly circular, with the temple sitting about 100 feet away from the edge of the forest from any given point. You are facing north and are protected from view by the treeline. you can see the main entrance to the temple ahead of you. the temple is old and its stonework cracked and crumbling in places. It is roughly round in shape and domed at the top, but on the western side you can just make out that it branchs off slightly. The Main entrance is guarded by 2 bandits wearing rough leather armor, the one on the left is armed with an old short sword, and even from here you can tell that it is rusty. The bandit on the right is holding a crude, but heavy looking cudgel. niether of them can see you where you are, but both are alert, if a little bored looking.

It is now your move.

Is there another entrance? I think I'd prefer to avoid facing the guards if at all possible. I'd also like to consult Triskal on the matter-- strategy isn't my strong point (in character or out). Besides, it seems likely he'd know more about the situation in general, and maybe even some of the layout of the temple. So--
"What do you suggest we do here? Look for another entrance, or try to get past those two?" She doesn't look too pleased to do either, but that's no change. It's difficult to be optimistic about this sort of thing for her-- probably not the best mindset for it, but she's only doing it for the money anyway. "I don't suppose they'd accept us talking our way in."

As I mentioned before, the forest you are in completely surrounds the temple, and thusly is an excellent vantage point if one were to circumnavigate it.

Triskal just shrugs when asked if there are any entrences and utters a simple "Probably not." towards your question about talking your way in.

That is a good point. Circumnavigating seems wise. Sinnika nods-- sighing a bit at the lack of response-- and starts northwest, staying within the treeline but heading toward the western side, where the building seems to branch off. That seems like the most likely place for a second entrance.

Triskal follows you silently, waiting for your command to do anything else.

Sure enough, there is an entrance off the western side of the building. Posted at this enterance is a lone bandit in the same ramshackle sort of armour, leaning on a spear, and looking positively bored. he is also not as alert as the other guards. In addition, you spy to the north a small adobe out building.

Hmm.. his waiting for commands is disconcerting. I'm not very good at leading. This entrance looks like a better entry point than the main one-- the out building doesn't seem like it'll lead anywhere, but I'd like to circumnavigate the temple, using the forest to remain hidden, and see if there are any other options.

Fair enough. You make your way to the north of the temple. As you pass the outbuilding you notice that it is roofless, that its doorway (with no door in the frame) is open to the forest and that it stinks to high heaven. The rear of the temple is ungarded, and it doesn't look like anyone has been back there for some time. THere is a stairway leeading down and under the temple.

Do you wish to continue on?

Hm.. can I try to detect a trap (with one of my spell uses) at the northern/rear entrance? It seems nice and all that there's no guards there, but also somewhat fishy. If they don't seem to think they need to guard it, there might be a good reason.

That is a valid action. If you wish to do so you will have 9 spells left. The spell will instantly detect if there are any traps nearby, but, you will have to get closer to the stairwell to use it.
PostPosted: Mon Jun 21, 2010 5:55 pm

Alright.. I'd like to do that, then. I'll have Triskal keep an eye out for anyone else as we move close enough to the stairwell, and then I'll cast the spell.

Triskal scans the perimeter as you work your spellcraft. Tendrils of magical energy lashout and form a grid that moves allong the path infront of you. It sweeps forward then, as suddenly as it had appeared, it vanishes. There are no traps or spells cast on this stairwell.

Hmm.. I'll head back to the treeline quickly then, motioning Triskal to follow. (How nice of him to put up with me on this venture, by the way. That can't be fun all the time.) "There aren't any traps, then, but it's still not guarded when the other two so far are.. that doesn't feel right. But let's go east."

So, we do if that's alright. Keeping out of sight behind the treeline, heading southeast, to look at the final side of the building.
