LLK is a live action role-play strategy game, that we are going to do on Gaia. Each of the seven players takes a role of The King's court, and is plotting to put himself or herself in a position to seize the kingdom upon The King's inevitable death.

The Royal Court

The Ambassador: The representative of a neighboring king, this character seeks to incite a peasant rebellion and provoke even more trouble at court.

The Archbishop: A proud person, the Archbishop seeks to manipulate the other characters from behind the scenes. He will control the kingdom if the one who gains power is under his thumb!

The Baron: This brutish lord seeks the throne but has no rightful claim to it. His only chance is to take it by force. Can he trick The King into allowing him to raise the army he needs?

The Queen: The unscrupulous young bride of The King, the Queen seeks to put her own son upon the throne.

The Royal b*****d: The current heir to the kingdom, the cunning b*****d has many enemies. If he is still heir at the end of the game, he wins – but keeping his place won't be easy.

The Steward: In charge of the day-to-day affairs of the palace, this character has high standing in the eyes of The King. If no one else assumes the throne, the Steward wins by being appointed regent.

The Treasurer: If he can bribe enough allies away from the other players, he will have enough power to rule the court, and hence the kingdom!

The Dying King

Rules

ERRATTA
The game as it stands is unbalanced. To balance it, I am saying that for an heir to lose their position, they must have less than 4 favor, instead of 2.

There are seven rounds in a game of LLK, each represent a month in-game time. Each round has three phases.

Audience Phase
Gaia players don't need to worry about this one. It's just the part where The King will distribute new cards and and gold to all players through Pms.

Diplomacy Phase
The meat of the game. Each one of these will last at least two days. This is where you stir up drama (Intrigue), send your minions to do their dirty work (Status), and plot with other players to advance your own goals.

Council Phase
Easily the one most difficult to pull off on Gaia, this is a formal meeting of the major players and The King, to discuss the matter of 'running the kingdom'. The King and the court meet, and everyone at the court takes turns petitioning some Royal act, such as asking The King to train more troops for the army, raising taxes, or some other such thing. After some brief discussion (Heated argument), everyone will vote Yea, Nay, or Abstain. Then based on the votes, everyone's favor score, and The King's personal opinion, the King will decide on whether or not the petition is passed. When all petitions are over, the next round will begin. This will likely be done in Towns, where we will meet between 1 and 3 times a week (depending on how well schedules can line up), and should last about 40 minutes. Anyone who is late to council will lose 1 favor, and anyone who is absent will lose 2, to represent The King's rage.

The Stats
Without stats, this would just be a generic RP. Everyone has one of these, and they can change at a moment's notice.

Favor
This is how much The King likes you. It represents how many votes you get at council, eg. If you have 7 favor, the king counts your vote 7 times. Having a lot of favor gives you a lot of pull in council. If your favor falls to 1, the King does not wish to see your face, and you are not allowed in Council. If it falls to 0, he will throw you in the Dungeon.

Status
Status represents how important you are. When in-character, you must always act respectfully toward people with greater status than you, else should the more important person complain to The king, you may suffer The King's wrath. Also, for every point of Status you have, you have on unique minion with its own special ability. Status is the only public stat that everyone else can see.

Allowance
Represents how much gold you make off your own estate every month, aka how much money you get at the start of every turn.

The Cards

Intrigue Cards
You get between 1 and 4 of these per turn, depending on several factors. They represent the rumors, plots, and events that pop up in a corrupt kingdom, and are one-use events. PM The Dying King or Rasani to use one. When you play an intrigue rumore or event, you -must- RP it in the guild thread.

Status Cards
Each one of these represents a loyal minion. They each give its owner a unique ability that can be used as often as the card says you're allowed to. These are not one-use, and can NOT be traded, sold, given away, or in anyway taken out of your retinue, unless you lose status. These cards do represent NPCs, and they may or may not be represented by The Dying King in the thread. If for some reason your need to lose a status character, but not actual status, (EG, someone assassinates an NPC), the NPC is removed from play, and its master receives a new status card.

Misc.

The Peasant Rebellion
The Ambassador is solely responsible for these filthy citizens and their unruly ways. Their riots tend to make things difficult for everyone else. The more peasants rebelling, the more affects they have on the game. If there are five rebellion cards active at the end of the game, and there is no heir to the throne, the Ambassador's kingdom will sweep into the chaos, and seize the kingdom.

The Baron's Army
If you don't like the rebellion, it's time to get chummy with the Baron. Only he has the power to diminish the growing riots, but the demands of the of the growing army can have similar effects to the growing rebellion. If there are five mobilization cards active at the end of the game, and there is no heir to the throne, the Baron will take seize the throne by force.

The Ambassador
Only an honorary member of The King's court, he has some special rules regarding play. He carries diplomatic immunity, meaning he can not be sued or sent to the dungeon. He is also not allowed to present petitions during council, except to propose lawsuits and marriages.

The Treasurer's Corruption
The Treasurer is the only character who can 'buy' status cards from other players. In essence, a status card is an NPC who is loyal to some PC, and the treasurer can offer to bribe the NPC to change their loyalty to the treasurer. The Treasurer makes an initial 'starting bid', and the NPC's master counters it. The two get into a bidding war, and whoever offers the NPC the most gold, gets the loyalty of the status card. If the Treasurer succeeds in bribing away an NPC, their status goes up 1, and the loser's status goes down 1, to represent the change in loyalty.

Thy Dungeonman
Because we are not playing IRL, you will not have to go sit in a dark room with bread and water and no music. However, being sent to the dungeon means you cannot attend council, or initiate conversations. (You can't go out and seek who you want to talk to, you have to hope they come visit you). You still receive intrigue cards every turn, but you do not receive any allowance. You can play Intrigue cards, but not ones that require an audience with the king (A lawsuit, a compliment, etc), and all deals made when in the dungeon will be made public (The dungeon guards are a rather loose-tongued lot). When sent to the dungeon, you lose 2 favor, and 1 status. You can be sent to the dungeon if you have broken the law in some way (the result of someone else's status or intrigue card), or if your favor has dropped to 0, and the king hates you. If this is why you were sent to the dungeon, and you raise your favor to 1, he lets you out. Also, bat the beginning of every council, the king starts a petition for every person in the dungeon, asking if they can be let out.

Boring necessary-to-mention rules for reference.
In council, petitions are heard from people in order of lowest status to highest (More important matters are best left for the end of council). However, before someone of low standing makes a petition, someone more important can interrupt, and propose his or her petition first, such is a perk of having high status.

Your favor, allowance, current gold, and your abilities are all only your business. You aren't required to disclose them to anyone, but you certainly could. Also, deals which involve future favors are not set in stone. You -could- pay someone to vote for your petitions for the next three rounds, but they aren't obligated to do it. Your gold would be gone though, if you agreed to pay up front.

Any and all transactions need to be PM'd to The Dying King, so he can keep track of who has what cards and how many gold. Both sides of any transaction need to PM him, or there there will be consequences. Doesn't need to be a long PM, “I traded 6 of my gold for The Ambassador's 'Skeleton in the Closet' rumor” is suitable.

You get 2 intrigue cards on odd-numbered turns, and 1 intrigue cards on even-numbered turns as a base.
