 Three years.
Three years and she was all grown up! Well she felt grown up, she'd seen things that she bet her parents had never seen. She'd fought with monkeys, challenged pirahnas to a duel and had even run away from tiny little humans. Suffice to say those tiny humans had been angry, she wasn't sure if this was because of a sense of injustice involving their height but they had been in a very dire mood. She'd managed to dodge the sticks they'd thrown but Solstice hadn't been so lucky and had been left rather disgruntled by a set of battered flight feathers. Nevertheless it had been a 'live and learn moment', both had reflected that this particular breed of humans were clearly not as pleasant as their cousins further north.
...They'd made a note not to go back that way.
However, after so much time away from her family the tiny mare had come to realise that she missed them just a little. She hadn't clocked in with her mother, father or siblings in quite some time and couldn't help but wonder what they were up to. Had her siblings been on any adventures, had they decided to settle down, had they turned ultra evil in a peculiar twist that would send her to the end of the earth to find a cure? She didn't know, but what she did want was to see them and to have a little chitter for a short while. She'd expressed this desire to her big buddy and he had conceded that she probably had a point, in the end they had both headed north with the intention of returning at a later date to the south. Alas, she hadn't expected it to be so damn cold when she got home!
Oh she knew it was spring, it was lovely weather but in comparison to the south it was freezing!
Sucking in a breath the mare continued to swim through the long grasses and eventually found herself at the forest's edge. Sensing no danger and thinking nothing of the risk of invading any territories, she pressed on and slipped into the shade. Suffice to say it wasn't her greatest idea, after all, if a mare found it cold with the sun beaming then the forests and their shade were truly horrid. Ah, she would have to adjust to this chill again or at least grin and bear it until it was time to shuffle off to invade more pygmy towns - maybe this time they'd be more welcoming. She was considering a peace offering as she shuffled on, her mind fully engaged in this internal monologue rather than what lay ahead of her.
...Should she bring them fruit or one of those even smaller shrunken heads they had hanging from the trees - more importantly, how did you get one of those tiny heads anyway?

Three years was a long time to the Usdia foal that was wandering around a little lost in the tall grass, not actually big enough yet to see over it he created a rustling wave as he moved around. Not that he was paying much attention to where he was going anyway, he had found a fluffy caterpillar and was currently following it around the grass. So there he was small tail in the air and his nose down next to the crawling insect that was probably only trying to escape the small foal.
Had he known where he was he would have known that once again he was further away than his parents would have been happy about, which would mean once again he was going to be in trouble. He didn't understand why his parents were so determined to stop him seeing stuff, that's all he wanted to do, go out and explore and see things. Then again he always had so many questions after he had been out exploring, though he didn't get many answers, or if he did there was a similarity to them all.
Stopping and looking up, only able to see the wall of green around him. Tilting his head right back to get a look at the sky. Neither of which helped him work out which way to go to get out of the grass, so he just started walking in a random direction. Smiling cheerfully, not seeming to mind that he was lost, he was just happy to be exploring. Wondering if he would learn anything new today, he hoped so, his father probably wouldn't like it but he wanted to know things that they hadn't told him, besides maybe he would find someone who knew why the grass was green, and why clouds got angry and rained on people. So many questions and no one to answer them....

She hadn't come that far by her standards when she heard the patter of tiny hooves and looked up. Unfortunately there were certain regions of the plains where the grasses were so high that even she couldn't see over them. Where was her travelling buddy when she needed him? Her brow furrowed in a most disgruntled fashion, her mind chastising her for not considering this as a possibility before. While she was generally the sassy one of the pair and definitely the loudest, the big Angeni male had his uses and one of those was as a lookout. Now who was going to tell her who to expect on the approach!
For all she knew it could have been a predator!
Her eyes narrowed briefly and she froze, her ears swivelling left and right as she attempted to discern exactly who and what was within her immediate vicinity. Eventually logic won over and she gave up in the pursuit of knowledge via telepathy and instinct - she didn't possess xray vision and definitely couldn't hear anyone's thoughts. As a consequence she did the only thing that she could do and took a little breath. She straightened up, lifted her head again and promptly addressed thin air in the hope that it would talk back.
"Knock knock," she announced merrily.
