He opened his eyes and gazed around. It was light outside again, but that didn't tell him much. Sometimes it was light, sometimes it was dark. It only meant that he was still alive and that days were passing. He didn't know how long it had been since the fight and he found he didn't care. The idea that anyone would be missing him or wondering if he was alright hadn't even occurred to him.

After Flora had run off, he'd stood there as if turned to stone. His head had became an angry hive of thoughts, memories, regrets, words unspoken and actions un-taken.

Was he really such a terrible buck after all? Did he really ruin a whole family? Maybe he it had been better if he'd died as a yearling like she'd said.

Maybe...

He'd wondered around for hours after he'd began to move again, he didn't know where or how. When he had finally stopped to turn to go home, he'd found himself midway on the mountain. He knew this spot, a place where he and Rodanza had been during their adventures on the mountains. It was a cliff over looking the forests. It was a beautiful sight, he could see other herla wondering around like tiny color specs in a huge filed of green. He'd been scared at first of the height, the wrong move would end up in a fall that would lead to....

Well...

Sommer stuck one hoof tentatively over the edge of the cliff, putting it out on air. Fear clutched his chest and he quickly withdrew it back.

"You should just do it.." the Flora in his head whispered "Then you won't ruin my family! Everyone would be happier! I would be happier!"

He stuck his hoof out in the air again, tears trickling down his cheeks. He willed himself to take another step forward but his body refused.

"GO!" He yelled at himself "GO GO GO YOU COWARD! MOVE!"

His body resolutely stayed in place. Sommer cursed himself, a stream of expletives and hate filled words directed at himself, trying to will himself to move.

Instead of walking, his body slumped to the ground. Without knowing it, he'd completely exhausted himself and his body needed rest. His chin rested a small edge jutting out of the cliff and he passed out, in tears.

How long ago that had been, he didn't know. Every since his body had laid down, it..or more so, he, had refused to get back up. He sighed, dust blowing up from exhaling through his nose. Another day...

Black hooves crushed the leaf litter on the forest floor, ears perked and eyes alert, searching for a familiar figure.

"Sommer!," her voice called out, finding it eerie when it did nothing but reverberate back and echo. She continued further into the forest, stepping carefully over rocks, fallen logs and shrubs.

"Soommerrr!," she called out again, only to hear herself fading through the dense trees. She sighed. She'd been at this all day, and her throat was beginning to ache. Thoughts of the worst kinda filled her mind as to what could've happened with Sommer...

Was he hurt?

Was he in trouble?

Was he....dead?

A shiver bolted down her spine at the thought and she shook it off, willing those awful thoughts away as she kept walking. Just over the horizon, the sun was getting ready to set.

Robin was also searching with Rodanza, not just for Sommer, but also for his sister Flora, it was wearing on him. Screaming both names to the woods, to the glens and meadows, and hearing no reply, no one had seen either of them for days. He needed to find them both, one or the other, he'd have a lead to the other, he was sure of it, just as he was sure that they would not be together.

Robin's heart had not stopped pounding since they'd decided to begin searching further out today; the love he had for his sister, the affection he held for his hart, his male mate, the growing concern for both, the fear that he refused to focus on, churned and twisted in the pounding organ, his blood speeding through his veins was second to everything else and growing thinner.

After another scream he was silent, panting, listening, waiting and when no reply came to his ears, a growl of frustration.

Zev his mion bound down from a tree and flitted over to him, landing on his back, heavily, for such a small thing, he looked to her as she gave a weak squeaking sigh and flattened her body against his back between his wings. She been flying hard all day searching with them, and had now given up, falling asleep almost as soon as her tiny body curled where it lay.

Robin turned from the area he was in and made his way back along the trail he'd taken, hearing Rodanza's voice off in the distance, he head towards it, dear sweet Rodanza- Robin thought, She truly is remarkable and stronger than any other Hind I know...

Where are you Sommer? We need you with us as well, don't leave us, please be alright...

Where are you Flora? I wish to speak with you again, to work out the trouble that are plaguing us for too long now. You are important to me too...

"Rrodannzaaa~" He called her name, wondering if she was going to come back to the meeting point soon, just wanting to see her face, to touch her forehead to his own and share breaths with her, to see if she was alright, because he knew that she was near and not lost to him. Touch base and decided where to go from here.

He hung his head, stopping at a large rock, just breathing, a piece of garbage, guardian made hanging from a cord around his neck and half filled with water from the river, swung into view and he grabbed it in his teeth and took a drink from it, it was warm and stale from the day, but it wet his throat.

Robin decided he would need to refill it before searching out her, his hind, his female mate, and turned his ears to and fro, seeking out the sound of water and zeroing in on it, moved in that direction. He bent at the river's edge and dipped the bottle, standing again when it was filled, and returning to the meeting point again.

He found that he felt numb as he stood staring at nothing. When did that happened? He asked himself, or his Guardian or no one at all, What have you told me about this numbness... this is better than feeling something, yes? You lie, again and again you lie.

Sommer was running.

He wasn't sure what or who he was chasing but he knew in his heart that what or who ever it was, he wanted to catch them badly.

Nothing held him back as he bolted full speed through the woods, it was if the trees themselves moved away from him, made way as he ran.

A flash of red in front of him! Rodanza?

He picked up his pace, trying to call out for Rodanza, asking her to slow down, but his mouth seemed to be frozen shut. Instead he begged her in his mind. "Slow down mon petit cœur..I'm going to loose you!"

Another flash of color in front of him again, this time a darker belt with a hint of red. Robin!! Wait..Robin? Wasn't he chasing Rodanza..?

Maybe they were together..

Sommer didn't know how, his body was already over clocking trying to catch them, but he managed to pick up the pace again, chasing the other two through the woods. "Slow down guys please slow down..."

Both flashes of color teased him again. They were just ahead! They'd just ran through that group of trees into the meadow, he could catch them there! Sommer ran towards the light seeping through the trees and burst into the meadow.

In the sunlight he paused, panting hard. His body burned from the hard run and he really wanted some cool water. But nevermind that for the moment..he looked around, trying to spy Robin and Rodanza and found the field was empty.

To his right, he hears giggling. He turns his head, and he finally sees Rodanza and Robin. Rodanza is cuddled into the other buck's chest, and Robin has his head rested lightly on hers. He smiled, and turned to move toward them, opening his mouth to call out.

His body stood rooted to the ground, his voice stuck in his throat.

"I'm so happy Robin..we're going to have such a wonderful family together." Rodanza purred

"Yeah.." Robin beamed.

Rodanza was having fawns? Sommer felt a burst of happiness in chest and tried again to go over to his two mates to congratulate them.

His body refused.

What in the world was going on? Sommer struggled against the invisible weights that seemingly were strapped to his ankles, trying to buck and rear, anything to try and move. His muscles strained and flexed, but he couldn't lift a single hoof off of the ground.

"Rodanza! Robin! Over here! Help me!!" He tried to shout this to the others but his throat constricted around the words, imprisoning them, and for a moment he couldn't breath. He gasped out a huge breath.

Robin's ears swiveled around, and it was then the buck seemed to notice Sommer. His attention caught Rodanza's who also turned to stare at him.

Yes, finally!! Maybe they would come over and help him!

The two seemed to talk to each other for a moment, and Robin nuzzled Rodanza's cheek and walked over to him. Sommer tried to move forward to his mate but his hooves were still weight down, so instead he smiled at Robin.

"What are YOU doing here?" Robin barked at him.

Sommer's smile faltered for a moment. What..?

"You're silly.." Sommer said with a slightly lighthearted, yet unsure tone.

Why did he say that? He surely didn't think of saying that. Robin's face went dark with anger.

"Don't joke Sommer, why are you HERE??"

"I..I..."

"Why did you come back Sommer?" Rodanza appeared at Robin's side. He looked at her.

"You, you're pregnate?" At least that's something that Sommer wanted to say. Rodanza gave him a horrified look and took a couple steps back. Robin moved in front of her defensively.

"You can't have them!" Robin growled this in a tone that dripped hatred and anger that he had never, ever heard from the buck. "Why don't just go back to where-ever it is you came from?"

"YOU CAN'T RUIN HIS FAMILY AGAIN SOMMMER!" Rodanza screamed this from behind Robin.

Sommer's eyes went wide and he his stomach contorted. Ruined his family....? But wasn't he part of his family?

"I...I..." he stammered again, tears on the edges of his eyes, bewildered at what was going on. Robin advanced on him and lowered his head.

"Leave now.." Robin thrusts his antlers at Sommer threateningly. He tried to back up but his ankles were still rooted to the spot. Robin glowered at him and thrust his head and antler into Sommer's chest.

"URG.." Sommer hissed in pain. But the hit had unlocked whatever chains that bound him and he was able to back up a few steps. Robin kept walking towards him, forcing him to keep backing up. "Robin..R..Rodanza!"

"Don't you DARE speak to her!" Robin reared back, his hoof striking Sommer's blind spot. His head rang and he stumbled a moment. A damp warmth trickled down his right eye and cheek.

"Robin..w..w..what did I..."

Robin growled in frustration, advancing on Sommer again. Sommer back up more quickly but the other buck kept pace.

"What did you do? WHAT DID YOU DO? ARE YOU REALLY ASKING ME THAT?" Robin shouted, a sound that seemed so much louder in his ears then it should. "YOU NEAR DESTROYED MY FAMILY!! MY PARENTS JUST NOW ARE SPEAKING TO ME AGAIN! MY SISTER IS HAPPY FINALLY! MY BROTHER IS HAPPY! I'M WITH RODANZA, I'M HAPPY NOW TOO! NOW YOU COME BACK AND YOU WANT TO TRY AND MESS IT UP ALL OVER AGAIN? NO! NOT AGAIN SOMMER!"

"You can't have a happy ending Sommer, you don't deserve it! You ruined too much in your life to be happy!" Rodanza said.

Sommer's heart felt like it might crack and his stomach lurched. He struggled again to try and speak but all the words were locked in his throat.

"We're happy now without you Sommer! Go back to where-ever you dragged your pathetic corpse and STAY THERE!" he roared. Robin reared on his back legs and kicked at him with his fore legs again. Sommer backed up all the way till his back leg hit air. He stopped, looking behind him.

The ground ended right behind his back leg. The ledge over looked the river and jagged rocks. The meadow didn't end like this..where did this come from....OOOFF

His chest felt like it exploded. He looked back towards Robin and found he'd been joined by Rodanza. Rodanza was rearing up now and she head butted him hard in the side. Sommer felt something in his side crack and he cried out in pain.

"w..why.." he whimpered, tears on his cheeks.

"We're happy without you Sommer." Robin growled

"It's too late for you now, please go away forever." Rodanza said.

"n..n..no.." Sommer wheezed.

Robin leaned in, pushing his head against Sommer's side. Sommer felt his hooves sliding across the earth. He was being shoved to the edge.

He tried hard to push back against Robin, but as soon as he began struggling, Rodanza lowered her head and hit him in his side next to Robin, and began pushing.

"NO NO PLEASE DON'T DO THIS!" Sommer screamed. "I'M SORRY WHATEVER I DID I'M SORRY! PLEASE! I DON'T WANT TO DIE! RODANZA! ROBIN! PLEASE!!!!!!!"

His heart was hammering in his chest, his blood rushing frantically in his ears. Every nerve and fiber in his body was on fire, desperately trying to encourage flight, trying to keep him alive.

"Goodbye Sommer." Rodanza said this, quietly, her voice cold as ice.

Robin gave a final, hard, push.

Suddenly there was nothing. No sound. His body felt light. His wings tingled, the feeling of the air and the breeze in them and rustled as if they'd start to flap. Maybe he would just sore on the wind, far far away from all of this.

And just as quickly as it came, the feeling vanished and he felt heavy as stone. His body plummeted down the side of the cliff, hitting rocks and stones. He felt bones break and flesh sliced. He tasted blood and his vision washed in red.

The falling feeling stopped, and hen he was cold and wet, his vision cleared again.

Just over his head, he saw three faces, contorted in sorrow. Mirielle...Lapiette...his mother...they were sobbing.

He tried to call for them but his lungs screamed. Bubbled streamed out of his nose. He'd hit the river that was suddenly as deep as the pond. He tried to push up towards his family, but his broken body wouldn't respond. His lungs screamed again for air, but there was nothing he could do.

"Mothzer...Lapi...Miri...Robin...Rodanza...I'm sorry..I love you all...I'm so...sor..."

All was black and silent.

Sommer's eyes flew open and he sucked in a huge breath of air, gasping and sputtering. His heart pounded in his chest. He was soaking wet but alive.. had he somehow made it out of the river?

He looked left and right and found himself still on the mountain side. The sky was gray and rain poured down on him. He was mired in mud now, but alive.

Sommer opened his mouth, catching some of the rain in his parched throat and sucked in large breaths of the wet, cool air. A nightmare, it'd be a horrible, horrible nightmare.

Still, their taunts filled his head and ears.

We're happy without you!

You ruin everything!

Goodbye Sommer..

Sommer closed his eyes again and began to cry softly.

A bright blue bird landed just in front of his nose. It cocked it's head, looking at him curiously. He sniffled, watching the bird. It had landed in a small puddle near his face and it fluffed it's feathers, splashing him with small drops as it began bathe, singing happily. Sommer cracked a smile watching it and whistled softly to the little bird. The bird stopped and looked at him. He whistled again, a fraction of a song. The bird sang back to him.

"Je voudrais être heureux et libre a comme vous..." I wish I could be has happy and free as you.

The bird finished it's bath and chirped at him again. Sommer whistled a small chirp back and the blue bird took off and flew down to the forest. He sighed, closed his eyes against the rain and listened as the water hit puddles and trickled down rocks.

Rodanza was breathing hard, hot and exhausted but she would not rest until Sommer was found. She trotted along tirelessly, stumbling now and then as her ankles and knees were becoming weaker.

She was making her back to the meeting point, head hung low and shoulder hunched in dissapointment as she came out of the treeline, spotting Robin. She quickly nuzzled up to him for comfort, making a soft whimpering noise.

"There's nothing...not a trace of him...It's like he just vanished into thin air," she whispered brokenly, looking tired and defeated.
PostPosted: Wed Jun 23, 2010 6:30 pm

Robin broke from his staring trance as Rondaza came into view. He noticed that it had begun to rain and sighed, that would make tracking scents impossible... He moved to gently bump his head against her own and spoke softly to her in return.

"Do not give up on our hart, Rodanza, he is strong. You are strong as well, anyone could become disheartened, but do not, think of him and do not doubt that we will find them again, for we must."

He stood silent for a while, just trying to be a comfort, and let her rest, and catch her breath, even with the rain he could feel the heat coming off her, after a time he spoke up again.

"Have you had anything to eat or drink all day?"

He hadn't stopped to eat, just having the water that he carried and nothing else, they needed to decide if they should stop for the evening, night was coming on now, or if they should continue on. Robin looked around, if Rodanza didn't completely object to it, he could probably catch them something without too much trouble. Meat would make a more filling and swifter meal than grass Perhaps he should have brought up his diet before this... His eyes caught a flash of blue through the rain, and he thought for a moment it was just a bit of sky showing through the clouds, then he realized it was a blue bird, coming down from the mountains.

"Rodanza, my dear, perhaps there is somewhere else that he could be," his eyes were distant, looking up at the gray shrouded peaks, "Sommer has told me little of your adventures together in the mountains, also that you are vary familiar with them, having spent time there. Yes, I am thinking that that should be where we search next, what do you think?"

Rodanza stood there, still trying to catch her break, ears perking weakly when Robin had asked her a question. She hadn't even been thinking of food or water...," N-no...not much of it...," she answered, her legs trembling slightly as she shook some rain off her pelt.

She listened intently as Robin spoke, remembering the mountains," The mountains...? That ledge is pretty dangerous to get to...But it's worth a shot. I think it's the only place we haven't looked," she answered, giving Robin a nuzzle before heading off in that direction, knowing Robin would follow.

"Ledge?" Robin whispered after her, but she was already on the move again and Robin lept to catch up with her, the plastic bottle swinging round his neck, he thought that he should take a lesson from her, that heat he'd felt was a fire burning in her, she had not yet given up hope.

They climbed together and the rain continued to drizzle down from the sky, the night grew darker and Robin's guardian was silent in his head, and for a time the only sound from without was the rain and their breathing. Robin swallowed, took a deep breath and began again.

"Soommerrr!"

"mmmmmm.." Sommer's ears swiveled on his head, catching a barely heard call in the air. He opened his eyes, seeing it was getting fairly dark. Despite his horrible nightmare he'd easily dropped back off to sleep again. The clouds obscured the stars, but the moon tried its hardest to shine through.

"hearing things.." he mumbled softly. Hunger was starting to get to him he thought. He stuck his tongue out and caught some of the rain on it, swallowing it, then doing it again till his throat was relieved from thirst.

The summer rain was warm, matting his hair to his head. The dust that was been on his body has been washed off and now was a mud puddle that coated his lower half, tail, neck and chin.

His ears swiveled again and he lifted his head, sure he heard a voice this time.

"H...hello...?" he raised his voice just a little.

He shuffled a little in his spot, pulling one of his long legs from under him. It ached a bit, being curled up all this time and placed it on the ground. Slowly, very slowly, he un-curled his body from the position he'd collapsed in many days ago. On all four hooves, his head spun and his legs threatened to collapse under his weight from lack of use and strength from food.

Unfortunately for him, his legs wasn't the only thing that was starting to have trouble baring his weight. The cliff that he'd been moping on wasn't all firm rock, but also mud and clay that was softening under the rain..

Rodanza couldn't hear much over the hissing rains, stumbling as she climbed the rocks up towards the ledge that she and Sommer had explored.

She came over the edge, panting and at first saw nothing there. Then, thanks to a bit of moonlight she saw him. His hunched figure standing weakly on the ledge, facing them. At first, she couldn't believe it. Her pack slipped off her haunches from the wet rain, dropping by her feet as her legs shook lightly," R-Robin, I think....,"she said weakly before tears fell and mixed with the rain and she dashed forward.

"Sommer! Sommer, we found you!," she shouted happily over the rain, skidding to a stop before him and nuzzling him, crying happily and ignoring the mud that coated him," W-we were so worried! So s-scared!," she said between her sobs.

Robin was just behind Rodanza, intent on catching her if she slid too far when she stumbled, his ears perked forward as they came over the rise, and they saw him. He was alive and despite looking a terrible wreck, relief washed over him, or maybe only half relief.

His face split in a grin and he was just a step behind Rodanza, closing the distance to press against Sommer's other side, Robin could feel them sliding in the mud and gently shoved the three of them off the edge and back onto more solid ground, his face and neck pressed under Sommer's chin.

Robin swore softly, under his breath to feel Sommer shaking, or maybe it was all three of them, "Are you alright, Sommer?" He began, waiting a moment before questioning, for Rodanza worry over him, Robin wanted to ask more than that, but first they needed to be safe and perhaps find some shelter, some rest, before his search continued.
PostPosted: Sat Jul 03, 2010 8:40 pm

Sommer's heart nearly lept into his throat, and he stared at Robin and Rodanza. They'd come to find him, they were worried. They loved and wanted him. He nearly wept with relief.

"I...I..." his voice croaked from a huge mix of emotions and from being completely exhausted and under nourished. Being lead, he walked very slowly away from his days long perch, standing a little further into the mountain. His legs quivered, feeling extremely heavy and sore holding his weight after so long.

"Désolé..(sorry)" he said very softly. He looked up into Rodanza's tear filled eyes and looked over into Robins' face. He'd never realized he'd missed them so much.

But almost as soon as those feelings of joy and relief came to him, his heart was flooded with sorrow and fear. He shook his head violently and backed away from them quickly, back towards the ledge.

"Non...non....go away!" He shook his head again, tears dripping off his cheeks. "I'll only hurt you! Go and be happy to yourzleves! I only ruin zings! She...-he chokes on a sob- she said zat I've already destroyed your family Robin...I..I can't stand to zink zat I will ruin your livez too! I...-his voice drops into a soft whisper- I..I love you Robin...and..I love you Rodanza...

Under his back legs, tiny bits of the muddy cliff fall away. Sommer's head hangs very low and he sobs in great, huge, cries of anguish and regret. He'd already lost someone, and now he was pushing away the two herla who meant more to him in this life and this world then any other. But it was for Robin and Rodanza's own good. He'd seen what he'd done already, what kind of sorrow he was capable of inflicting on someone else and it broke his heart. If he'd somehow managed to do it again...

"Juzt, save yourzelvez..be happy togethzer...leave a uzless zing like me to rot where I am...

Sommer's legs wobble hard and he half falls, half settles down back into the mud. He lays his head onto the ground, his head near their front hooves.

Rodanza went from cloud nine one moment to shock and hurt the next as she watched Sommer back away from them. His cries tore her heart apart, and she was washed over with a sudden anger at his words.

"H-how DARE you?! We've ben s-so worried, and now you push us away?!," she yelled, tears streaming still. She had never cried so much in her entire life," If you think we're going to leave you here, You've got another thing coming!," she added, approaching him to get him back to the safer side of the ledge.

She went around him and began using her side to push," Dammit, Sommer -push- we love you -push- and we aren't going to let you destroy yourself! -shove-,"

A loud crack made her ears perk.

The ledge shook beneath them.

Rodanza looked from the ground to Sommer, charging and headbutting him over the last few feet as the rock fell away from beneath her hooves, her flank going over the edge as her upper half struggled to stay on the rock, her legs kicking to try and get some footing, slipping on the mud and rain.

Sommer scrambled to his hooves.

"RODANZA!"

He peered over the edge of the cliff where half of Rodanza's lower half was kicking at air and the rocks she couldn't quite reach. He saw no ground for which she could push up or away from to haul her back onto the ground. Frantic for an idea, he turned and pushed his head under her stomach, through to the other side and, as he had done with a fawn not long ago, adjusted her till her back half was on his neck and shoulder.

However Rodanza was a bit bigger and heavier then that fawn and all he could manage to do was lift her rear up and into the air, keeping it from dragging her down and over the side.

"Ro..Robin.." Sommer gasped "try and pull her or find somezing she can hold onto!

He shuffled under Rodanza a little, trying to slide her more onto his shoulders then his neck.

"Rodanza, try and..uze me to puzh yourzelf back onto ze ledge..just..watch ze face...

Robin frowned hard and shook his head, stepping forward after Sommer, with Rodanza, "What are you saying, Sommer?" Robin tilted his head, trying to understand, he shook his head, "Nothing is ruined, not if you come to your senses, you and-!"

He had started to kneel to force Sommer back from the edge again, something unspeakable had happened, but more horrible things could come to pass before this was done.

Robin was right there when Rodanza slipped off the edge and was on his knees next to her opposite Sommer in the next second.

"There is no time!" Robin was frantic, he would not lose either of them, he did his best to hook his front leg with one of Rodanza's, he stretched his neck forward and tilted his head, catching the back of her head and antlers with his own and arching to rear back, in attempt to haul her off the edge and only more solid ground, "Pull on three! One, two- Pull!"

His legs, knees and sides scraped along the rocks and mud, but he found purchase and leaned with his whole body away from that edge, he folded his wings tight against his back and rolled his body, hoping to pull Rodanza to safety along with Sommer.
