Welcome
This is the second version of the original announcement from 2005, designed to keep members updated as to events which transpire in the next months, ranging from local, to district, to Site wide policy and program changes, as well as major events and celebrations.
If you have a major event occuring in your guild, you may post here.
if a very large change has occured in Gaia, you may also post here. Front page is the first, and often only thing people see or read, therefore, posts will be edited regularly to update new events.
Gaia events and City events have been merged into a single thread, and since the Nostalgia events are the absolute threshhold of Gaian Updates for the next 3 months, I personally refuse to say anything else that is planned for Gaias future. I will not however, prevent anyone else from stating what's occuring soon.

The first new event for the city would be the announcement that we have lasted more than a year, and grown accordingly. Our district influence is somewhere in the 4000+ member influence, and we have recently acquired a new District: the Nova Guild.
Due to the paranoia of a certain guild faction, we will nolonger be doing guild crew member exchanges or promotions in standard order. If you do not yield a sufficient amount of activity here, you will not be promoted to crew.
While the existing crew will maintain something of a grandfather clause for a while, this is also the announcement stating that anyone who does not have the guild crew exchange program enacted will find their own crew status revoked by the Valentines Day Event.
Crew Status can now be earned through a promotional program titled "Centurions of Alexander".
Centurions are will be loyal members who are given jurrisdiction over a district, they will be connected to a sequence of titles including "general" and "knight". This also includes an Internship program for Guild Vice Captains, where you will be given reigns over your own guild as reward for service, and allowed VC status over it, with potential for full captain status, and full "district" status.

This is reviewing history as much as it is looking in the future, though this may not be the communis opinio of gaia, let alone would the administration agree with my wording, I do believe that my opinion holds a lot of truth and should be kept in the back of your collective brains as the site moves forward over the following 12 months. Gaia's coming to agePlease familiarize yourself with the base concept of Neopets and the hate towards it. Also think about other popular websites for the youth of this world, such as MySpace, LiveJournal, Runescape, Adventure Quest and other sites that follow the same concept. To predict the future, you must first understand the past, that is why I start with a few lines about how gaia started and what it is growing to: The concept of gaia was made up on a parklot behind the Taco Bell, somewhere in California, USA, Lanzer (a genius with computers), L0cke (an absolute pro in Ragnarok Online, drawing and to a lesser degree with skateboards) and some of their friends wanted to combine their expertise to create an online community that would intertwine their big interests: Gaming, Anime and Roleplaying. The site started off with a big forum, the art arena, avatars, gold and 1 shop, shortly after that the Personals and the Bank came to being, providing gaia with a lively economy, enough items to look cool in and enough space to find friends and be together. Gaia quickly became popular with a lot of ex-neopetters, they were drawn by the older public, the decent graphics, the future the admins promised and the fact that it felt like Neopets should've felt. As gaia grew it attracted more people, less cool people and it started to need a more proffesional management, this came with the report system, the overload of mods, helpers, global mods and more regulated feedback forms. As with everything that becomes huge, the makers become more and more invisible, this made it hard for the administration to keep an eye on community and to enjoy their as their users did. (I found about 4 mules of Lanzer alone, all of them were easy to spot and could not walk around unnoticed.) This is why I believe that the admins became less and less attached to their site, so they made the site more mainstream, more sponsors, more minigames, more copies of features from other sites and...in general...became a "Large website". Now that you know the past, you can draw the lines and see how the future will most likely be:

Naturally, the oldbies will take their leave or abuse their looks and fame to get fans. (See: Silver Archangel, Angsty Shem, Gelmax, Kokoryota, Weja) All in all, gaia will become more fractured, it will be near impossible to get attention, this will go on until the bubble pops. In the end gaia will no longer be about "community" but about "winning" social interaction will no longer be needed to become succesful, in the end, no one will "love" gaia, they will "love" winning. If gaia fails to provide enough challenges, the members will leave and that will be the end of it. Now, of course, the admins can do somethings about this, as do us normal members, but that is a different subject and it will take very drastic measures most people will not be willing to take.

You may say to yourself.
"There are over 9000 guilds out there. They are all the same. They make promises they cannot keep, and advertise services they do not have. Demon this, Vampire that, Cat this, and Literate that. What's the point? What's the meaning of it all? Are guilds completely useless?
You may look around for something more, and the more you look, the more shallow things become. You get to an Elementalist guild and someone claims to be Leader of Shadows or Electricity... Since when did those become Elements?
You search out a Literate guild, with people familiar with literature, and instead find people typing large paragraphs in small font, harping each other on spelling and grammar, while the storyline remains thinner than a Walmart Grocery bag.
You see Martial Arts guilds, and battle guilds, with plans to take over this, and that, but when you get inside, do you ever get the impression you know more than they do... or worse... - that they know nothing at all? Are you sick of the Kong Foo, the Tai Quan Do, and the Bruce Lee Do? ninja Yes, Ninja, the imaginary foundation for "instant badass" which rapidly becomes "instant dumbass". How many times have you entered a roleplaying military, dojo, or tournament, only to discover it was rigged in favor of the owners' friends? Or that you had to bribe the judges? Or, more commonly and tragically, GODMODING.
Do you remember when... My power of (cheese) is all powerful and can only be stopped by other people with (cheese), and since your character doesn't have (cheese) since you didnt read the (cheese) Manga, or know anything about the (cheese) series on Toonami, which is the GREATEST ANIME EVER, then you have no chance against MY (cheese)"
- Yeah, it's kind of like that.
Occult anyone?
Let's face it, many of you like the occult. The very word breaths of "CULT". It speaks of hidden societies and cool hand signs, mystical power and forbidden knowledge. Ahem... I did say, MYSTICAL POWER...
That's why most people join groups in the first place. -Because they want the power. While cult leaders like to claim "People are sheep, they must be led" the people who seek to join Inner Circles and Secret Societies do not like to think of themselves as sheep. They like to think of themselves as Shepherds and Masters. So you have 300 guilds claiming to be the "Real Magic" guild where you will have schools, like Potter, teach you the Arts. Instead, when you get inside, you see a bunch of people who talk like your little brothers or sisters playing with Barbies and it sounds something like this:
Teacher: Ok Meggan, what I want you to do is say "Explodius Avertus" and hold out your hands like *this*...
Meggan: Oooo Oo! Explodius Avertus! *holds out hands* KABOOM! I did it!
Teacher: Very Good, you are a powerful witch. Now we will move on to mind control..."
- Yep, you know its true.
What if you could change things... would You?
At Alexandria, our goal is to provide the members with resources and instructions in the Fields of Art, Literature, History, Eastern and Western Philosophy, Metaphysics... of War and Peace, of Conflict and Resolution, which can be carried with them for the rest of their lives. We seek the collective improvement of the group, through the enlightenment of the Individual. The goal of this guild is to empower its members with the Sword of Truth, with Knowledge, and Understanding.

In this guild, we encourage members to share knowledge that they may have, particularly their experiences and wisdom. We are especially grateful for contributions provided by the members. While other guilds focus on the fantasy element and "fun", we are a body of Seekers. Ask yourself, which would be more fun? pretending to be a Badass in a story, or really becoming the Badass?

We will be pushing a bit into an Egyptian theme for a while over the next season, as well as digging into our roots about what is what, and expanding our library, probably to include the works of Locke, Kant, and Berkeley, among others.

We may be doing some revamping soon. It would seem the guild is dead right now, although that fits the pattern for most guilds today. The current administration in the Captain's guild is far less effiicient than in 2004 and mid 2005, and the promises of the Upper Administration have fallen through.
In the mean time, I will be working on updating the Library for poltical science requests. As is, its not quite 6 in the morning when this post was created.

Gaia makes a Dark Halo (mentioned last year at thecons) and a G Blade (G is pronounced like "Key" in this case)
A battle system is in the works and expected to be released some time before I get my 2nd degree. Potential guild items like gymnasiums and mideval items have been released for towns, and guild houses remain in the works.
because of the abilities of the new items in mimicking devil tails, the price of devil tails is expected to plummet, as markets show, emo prince put one up for sale with a max bid of 4 mil and a min of 1.5 mil.

I'm contemplating doing a visual art library museum effect, for various classical painters and sculpters such as as Degas, Monet, Donatello, Davinci, Gioto, and so forth. I could really use some feedback on this issue, and potential suggestions and formatting.
