"Humans fear what they don't understand, and hate what they can't conquer."

-Andrew Smith

Welcome to the story of a twisted game called The Delta Hunt. In the distant future, under the dictatorship of Terra Belmon, the United States of America has become violent and war torn. And amongst all this madness, a new breed of humans has arisen. They are called the "Delta Mutants", and even though they are more powerful than a whole platoon of men unarmed, they are hated and persecuted horribly. And just when it seemed like their lives couldn't get worse, one fateful night leads to the order of their capture...or death. Now these mutants are forced to run for their lives like animals, otherwise they will face needles in a lab and even extermination.

And the hunt has only begun.

Author's Note:
I absolutely suck at writing summaries. Hopefully the actual story will sound better than that load of crap. Anyway, I want to say something before I get started. In this story, a majority of the Delta Mutants are completely original characters that I came up with and imagined in my head. I use some of them in roleplays, and one of them I have based my username off of. However, most of the human characters in this story are based off of my real life friends, enemies, and classmates. Kleo and her boyfriend are in this story, and I'm looking for a way to squeeze in Coral and Mermaidchick. Anyway, I'll try to put up as many chapters as I can, when I can. Oh, and please give me reviews. Constructive criticism is LOVED, just so you know.

Okay, let's get started! Lykaios out!

Prologue

The year is 2137, and America is in chaos. Under the dictatorship of the feared Terra Belmon, the country has become violent and war-torn. The self-proclaimed "god" had a mental illness that caused her to go insane, and she forced the citizens of the once-great country to bow down and worship her. She forced them to fight wars based off of her personal wants, desires, and quarrels. It seemed all hope was lost for a period of time, but the people soon gained the will to fight back. After many, many more deaths, Belmon was assassinated. Relief settled in on the country.

But this was not to be. No group of people can go without a leader for long, especially when trying to rebuild their homeland. So the Americans chose a man named Jonah Ryter to lead them in their time of need. Ryter was a strong and confident man. He was fitting for the loose title of "President". It seemed like nothing could go wrong with him in charge.

But then, disaster struck.

Underneath the soil and rubble of what used to be a great nation, a shocking discovery was made. While she was still alive, Belmon had tried to create the perfect soldier. Unbeknownst to the public, she had planted several underground bases in which scientists conducted experiments on humans. "Project Delta", as it was codenamed, had turned a large group of children and teens in to genetically altered humanoids.

Outrage surged across the country, and a rift was created between the people of America. What should they do with these "Delta Mutants", as they were nicknamed? Should they simply kill them? Should they let them live?

After much controversy, Ryter has his own scientists examine the Delta Mutants. Although their DNA had become twisted and broken, they were still humans, he concluded. They weren't crazed monsters who would wreak havoc on his country. Ryter eventually decided to let the Delta Mutants go.

Years later, Ryter realized that the citizens of America were treating the Delta Mutants horribly. He knew it was natural for humans to fear those more powerful than themselves, but he did not wish for his country to be so divided. So, to try and settle the quarrel, he created a school that accepted humans and Delta Mutants. Most of the humans at this school were paid annually to go there, and most of the mutants were outcasts who were simply picked up off the streets. The school was dubbed the "Ryter School for Humans and Delta Mutants".

Our story takes place half-way through its first year, but nothing has changed. The mutants are still feared and hated, even by the teachers, and large fights or brawls are not uncommon. Most of these start over discussions about Ryter. The Delta Mutants believe that he only opened the school to make himself look better as a leader. They want him out of power and away from them. But, since no one dares to step up to challenge the great leader for his position, it doesn't seem likely that this will happen.

However, there will be a giant change that will shake America to its core. One that will begin a great hunt to exterminate the Delta Mutants.
