It was a special day, the most special of special days, the absolutely specialist day ever.

For once (perhaps the first time in her life), Awinita Kidudushi was actually focused. Oh she was so excited! Today was the day, the most special day, the day that her and Helaku started their life together. Together, the two of them, forever. Forever, it was a wonderful thought, the spend every moment of her life with the lion she loved, her knight in fuzzy armor.

Right Nita, focus.

Her fur cleaned, a beautiful pink flower tucked behind one ear, the feather Helaku had given her with his proposal attached to her necklace; the little lioness smiled, looked to the rabbit who had been her friend since childhood.

"How do I look?"

"Beautiful, as you always do."

Tauron was not so excited as his friend was (not that she'd noticed). Oh he was happy for her, always glad to see that smile, to know that she was happy. But it wasn't -he- who was getting married, save the excitement for the bride.

"Come on, Tauron, let's go!"

Unable to contain her excitement any longer, she was off for the Stargrove, leaving Tauron to follow behind. She couldn't wait!

It was indeed a most special and wondrous day. The knowledge hummed in Helaku's bones and sang in his blood, putting a spring in his step and a fire in his eyes. Today he would marry Awinita, and declare to the world that he would be her stalwart protector, her guardian of happiness. Unexpected as it was, love had caught him up in an inexorable current, and he intended to swim its waters until his bones had long since turned to dust.

And thus, he set off for the Stargrove.

Skan was already waiting at the Stargrove, since he knew about the ceremony. He had to put it on! Tawa'di was lingering around, just close enough to be a witness as well as being available for help. This was the first marriage ceremony Skan has had to do that went moreso out than some of the other ones. Stargrove, check. Him, check. The pair to be married....on their way, so check.

Did he have everything? Well...he actually didn't really need anything. He only hoped that the pair had remember to bring a small offering to one another, the objects that would tell the pride that they were together. Mementos, treasures, whatever Helaku and Awinita considered them, they were important.

Now, hopefully he wouldn't forget the correct lines...he waited patiently, if a bit anxiously.

It might have been normal for a lion to be nervous on such a special important day, a day that meant so much. Well...normal for lions who were not named Awinita, she did not know the meaning of the word (though it may have been that Tauron was nervous enough for the both of them).

There was no trace of such in the little lioness as she made her way to the stargrove, prancing every step, tail twitching behind her with the song she was humming. Nope, no nervousness here!

She had paused along the way, taking a moment to search for something she had kept in the pouch she wore around her neck. Ah-ha, there it was, a small smooth stone. It the shade it had seemed a simple white stone, but in the sun it came to life, seeming to reflect beautiful greens, blues, and even reds. She had carried the small treasure with her since cubhood, and today she would give it to Helaku, her true treasure.

The stone held gentle in her maw, Nita trotted the last distance to the stargrove. There was the Wanidatsi, waiting for them, and she could see Helaku too!

A smile, she placed the small stone at her paws, waiting for her mate to arrive at her side.

As joyous as this day was, Helaku had to admit he was nervous. He wanted this to be perfect for Nita, and he was very much worried that he might...mess it up, somehow. What if he said, or did, something wrong? He'd checked the flower he was carrying thoroughly for bees, spiders, and anything else that might sting or bite, but what if one had hidden particularly well? What if, what if, what if...

He shook his head slightly (and carefully, mindful of the flower), cutting that train of thought short. He was being silly--even if something went wrong, it would be fine. As long as Nita was happy, it would be perfect enough.

His composure regained, Helaku padded the last short distance up to the Stargrove, laying the flower gently at his paws as he arrived.

Skan offered a nod to both of them as they had approached. He felt his nerves still hum in his muscles, but his mind was beginning to relax. This was going to be one of many ceremonies he'd perform, and this one would go as smoothly as they all would. Still, being unmarried himself, he hadn't felt that same lighting of weight being with the one you love.

"Welcome. Awinita Kidudushi of the Earth clan." He said, smiling warmly at her. Her father had always been something of an uncle to his family, and so he viewed her as a sort-of-cousin, even if they hadn't seen each other much. He turned to the male. "And Helaku, of the Bird."

He paused, just for a moment, because he was having trouble with the next part. He knew what to say, but making every marriage ceremony slightly different, and therefore special, took a little practice that he hadn't quite yet gained.

"The land wishes to see you joined, and as your hearts already have, we will complete your union together." Did that sound ok? He hoped so. Hopefully his father wouldn't laugh at him later.

"Please, pass me your gifts for one another to me."

Her smile broadened as Helaku approached, somehow managing to resist the urge to pounce him and lick his nose. For the moment she settled for flicking her tail at his, the nose licking would come later.

As Skan spoke, she turned to face him, listening to his words, though that smile never left her maw. If the Wanidatsi was nervous, there was no need to be (not that Awinita would have realized it). To her, his words were beautiful, and she listened to them intently even as her gaze turned to her mate.

Following the prompt, Nita lowered her head to pick up the stone at her paws, passing it to Skan as requested. Before that moment it had been a pretty stone, now it meant so much more.

Helaku's smile widened at the tail-flick. Nita seemed as playful as ever--and why not? It was a good day, a happy day, and though he felt obliged to show a certain degree of sobriety right now, they would have time for much play and celebration soon.

His attention focused on Skan as he spoke, Helaku nodded and lifted the flower, passing it to the wanidatsi. Flowers reminded him of Nita now, with the way they seemed to brighten everything around them.

Skan gratefully accepted their gifts to one another. He had to pause to decide which gift to present first, but continued on smoothly.

"Awinita. Helaku has offered you this flower. The land will recognize it as your love for him, so wear it proudly." He fumbled a bit with his paws out of nerves to gain a grip on the flower, but placed the flower next to her ear. "The land as well as everyone else," he smiled.

He turned back to gather the stone, placing it in Helaku's paw. "A treasure in more ways than one. Though it is not something wearable, it shows the strength of your love for one another. Always keep it close."

He paused, took in a deep breathe, and smiled at both of them. "From here until eternity, Awinita Kidudushi and Helaku are forever mates."

Ahhh! She had nearly squeaked in delight, her head bowed to eagerly accept the gift. She loved flowers (even if they sometimes had bees in them), especially flowers from Helaku. It was such a pretty flower, one that she would treasure forever as a sign of the bond she shared with her knight in fuzzy armor. (Though honestly it would not have mattered what he gave her, she'd have cherished it just as much).

She only hoped he would like her gift as much. Ah, of course he would like, why wouldn't he? But what the gift wasn't really important, it was what the gift represented, the depth of her love for him.

A smile, she happily watched her mate. He was about to get his nose licked in 3...2...1...

Helaku's heart leapt as his paw closed around the stone, that small yet precious reminder of their love for each other. He would have to make sure their den had a little nook for it to rest in, or he could fashion a pouch to keep it in. Something suitable to keep it safe.

For he and Nita were mates now, well and truly. His smile broadened joyfully as he looked at her--better brace, Helaku, pounce incoming!

Skan smiled, feeling a reflection of their joy for one another. It was a good thing, something to remember. Skan was always so serious and stern, but moments like this reminded him that not everything about life needed to be taken so seriously. There were moments where one needed to forget everything but what was right in front of them.

Maybe one day he'd learn. For now...

"Off, you two!" he chuckled. "Go spend some time together, and Awinita, you should probably go to your parents and let them butter you up with congratulations, with Helaku at your side."

He paused, a smile on his face. "I'll see you two later, I'm sure."

No use fighting it Helaku, she's already got you.

Nita was fast when she wanted to be, closing whatever distance remained between her and her mate in a bound. By then it was all over for poor Helaku, she had already licked his nose (she really liked doing that). No escape for you!

Helaku's nose well licked, Nita smiled, purring softly as she brushed against him, nuzzling into his neck. Mmm, so soft and warm, she could have stayed there forever.

But the pride leader's words had snapped her from her from her reverie. Oh dear, was that a touch of mischievousness showing through in that smile?

"Wanna race home?"

A paw had already raised, thoroughly intending to 'tag' him, then take off running the moment he answered.

Indeed, Helaku couldn't have escaped even if he'd wanted to. In the blink of an eye his nose was thoroughly licked, and Nita was snuggled into his mane. He could really get used to this...but he hoped he never got so used to it that he took it for granted. Nita was too special for that.

Tilting his head, Helaku grinned down at her before shifting his hold on the stone to carry it in his mouth. "Of courf!"

Skan waited patiently as they playfully set off to their home. Together, too, as Helaku no longer was part of the Bird Clan. Skan would miss him a bit, as it was one less male in the clan. But then...Terema had enough kids to make up for it, so everything would be alright. As long as they didn't crawl all over him when he made it home.

"You did well," Tawa'di said, emerging from his hiding place. "You don't need to be so uptight next time."

"Hmph, easy for you to say. You've done way too many of these, and I have done so few."

"You'll do many more, Skan. You'll get used to them soon enough. "

"Yeah, yeah."

The two males followed after the pair a bit, much slower then them, of course, before turning to return to the bird clan.
