Chris stood at the far end of the balcony and looked out at the Necropolis below. He was still framed in shadow, but he wore his own clothes. He leaned up against the railings and rested as he waited for company to arrive.User Image

The soft sound of heels against the stone floor would notify Chris that Alnette had finally arrived. The baroness had never been on the balcony before, so she took the moment to examine her surroundings before nodding and smiling to Chris. "I'm not too late, am I?"

Chris turned around to see Alnette standing over by the door. "I haven't been waiting long," he replied. He kept his hands in the pockets of his coat. "I appreciate you showing up on such short notice."

He nodded to Alnette.

"At any rate, to the point; I feel as though I have a lot of explaining to do to you in particular, so I would appreciate it if you'd hear me out."User Image

"Oh, good." With a smile, Alnette moved next to Chris.

"I'm all ears, dear."

Chris shifted around and leaned his back against the railings of the balcony. "I wanted to thank you for staying by my side all the time. I've been particularly uncooperative, aloof, and - dare I say it - boring for the past few months, and don't think it hasn't been lost on me." He sighed. "I just have difficulty opening up to people, as you may well have picked up on."

He looked over at Alnette.

"I just thought that, even though we're Baron and Baroness, we don't know each other particularly well, and that we should take steps to change that." He looked away.User Image

"I thought it only fair to stand by you, after all, I knew you had a reason."

She sighed.

"You're right about that and I agree, we need to take steps to change that."

Chris crossed his arms.

"Yes, well... yes, I appreciate you standing by me, no matter how unpleasant. I'm a person who greatly values principles like that." He looked away. "You're clearly charming and intelligent, but for some reason I never know what to say to you." Despite his shaded face, he looked quite miffed with himself.

"However, I'd like to know more about the things you are passionate about, and in turn share some of my own history to help explain why I've been so odd lately, if you don't mind it."User Image

Alnette laughed, a warm chuckle.

"Charming and intelligent? I appreciate such flattery. "Well, you're talking to me now, so I guess you found the words." She joked.

"All right. Shall I go first, or would you rather?"

Chris straightened up, but he still looked somewhat sheepish. "I'm being as candid as possible," he said. "Being truthful is easier than trying vainly to not embarrass yourself." He fixed his hat. "But, since I proposed the idea, I think it's only fair that I deliver first."

Chris shook his head. "A long time ago, I had a wife. We were happy for a while, but... after I became a vampire, everything ended fell apart. She offered to become a vampire as well, but it made her miserable, and in turn made us both miserable. After a while, she simply turned human again and left me completely, and she's never spoken to me again." He seemed to space out. "Which is why I wasn't a fan of you becoming a vampire, you see."User Image

"I prefer honesty, it's an admirable trait." Alnette nodded, smiling. "I'm glad you're sharing this with me."

"Oh, I see..." She nodded again, looking at him. "I guess I can understand that. It must be hard for you to tell me this."

Chris nodded. "Yes, well, some things I prefer not to talk about," he said. "But you should at least know a bit about who your Baron is. I can't keep giving you the cold shoulder, so I figured I'd start clearing the air with some candor."

He looked over at Alnette. "As for the shadows. I know that they do not please you, and that this version of myself is not necessarily the one you selected to be Baron a long time ago. But I do it to protect myself. I am tired of people seeing my vampirism and my scars. It is how I keep my distance from a world that does not readily accept my kind, and I do not easily let the shadows fall away. I hope you can forgive me for it."User Image

"Again, I thank you for telling me. If there's anything in particular you want to know about me, just ask."

Alnette sighed, but managed a smile. "It's fine, I understand, though I may not like it." She grinned wryly. "Besides, I can't always have what I like."

Chris sighed. "I appreciate your understanding, and again, I apologize."

He rubbed the back of his head.

"The funny thing about not knowing is that you don't know what you don't know..." he stopped himself, apparently confused. "I suppose what I'm trying to say is, I'd like to be made aware of anything about your past, hobbies, interests, that you might like to share with me. I'd just like to know you better, if that's all right."User Image

"Well, I'll do my best to tell you what I don't think you know, though I'm normally pretty open about things. I'm only 20, so really there isn't all that much to me, but I'll tell you what I can.""

She closed her eyes, taking a deep breath.

"I've always been a power seeker, so I've been dabbling in everything I could learn. Spells, weapons, and dealing with other forces, I heard rumors of the 'Dark Excalibur' A weapon capable of boosting the power of the wielder. I sought out the weapon and ended up here, and when I tried to take it, my predecessor attacked me. I killed him and since he had no heir, according to the laws here, I was to become a baroness and rule in his stead.

I enjoy reading, especially legends and history, since there's so much intriguing information. I also enjoy gardening and cooking, though I'm sure you know that. I currently am working on a strain of semi-sentient flower that can be used as a guardian of sorts, though it doesn't always go as planned.

I fear growing old and dying, as well as being forgotten. As a result, I'm seeking a way to immortality, or at least a way to make myself remembered. It's silly, but I have to do it. I just can't seem to find a way that feels right."

She laughed.

"Sorry, I tend to ramble on."

"Ah," Chris murmured. "I keep forgetting how young you are..." He smiled to himself. "No, you're not rambling. I was the one rambling earlier. Compared to me, you're quite collected, actually."

He looked at her. "Growing old and dying... valid fears. Fading into obscurity and being forgotten... also are valid. I've had the same concerns. However, instead of fighting oblivion and anonymity, I have, in a way, embraced it." He gestured to his face. "Partly what inspired my current form."

Sighing, he turned away. "I don't know a whole lot about botany, but swords and spells... those I am more familiar with." His dark face almost seemed to lighten somewhat. "Old legends and stories, even more. I am a man fascinated with symbols and epics and such. Perhaps, if there is true immortality, it lies there."

He paused.

"And what are your current goals, or other hobbies, or current interests, if I might be so inquisitive?"User Image
