Hi ^_^ I don't know about everyone else, but-while i do love reading and studying guides on wicca- i really love to read fiction. Although when it comes to novels involving wicca, they are usually very misleading, and not a good idea for people who are just starting out learning about wicca, because they may get the wrong idea about things (example; people who want to become wiccan because of Harry Potter). But if you can look beyond the exagerrations and misleading ideas, they are really good books, and i love them ^_^ So, i wanted to start a thread (if its okay w/ everybody else) where people can get and give reccomendations of novels/stories/whatever fiction involving wicca, or related things.
Updated: Everyone that posted agreed, so bring on the reviews ^_^
It should be remembered that most of the time in fiction books, magic and wicca are stretched out of proportions, just like in movies. So please, don't take everything too seriously, just enjoy smile . Just thought i should include that. ^_^;

To make it easier to find great books, heres a list of reviews posted smile
heart Author: Tamora Pierce - SHE ish teh roxxiest of teh boxxiest!!!! seriously. Read her Circle of magic and The Circle opens books. A lot of her ideas she got from The man, Scott Cunningham! Booyah!! .....sorry, but she is awsome. You will see a lot of references on circles, the importance of meditation, and so on. Of course, it is VERY dramatic and has the mor 'normal' thoughts of majick, but they are AWSOME books ~Yumiko_Yoshihana (thankyou to Sweetypop for the following wonderful little listy thing about tamora pierce books) About the Immortals series: it helps to read the series before it to understand it better. I read the immortals, and then the series before it, and it just wasn't the same. The Immortals quartet is by Tamora Pierce. Here's the list of all her books (so far) in order.
Tortall Universe:
Song of the Lioness Quartet: About a girl named Alanna who switches places with her twin Thom so she can study to be a knight. Alanna: The First Adventure In the Hand of the Goddess The Woman Who Rides Like a Man Lioness Rampant
The Immortals Quartet:Years after Song of the Lioness, a girl named Veralidaine discovers she is a rare Wild Mage, which is simeine who can comunicate with, and, with practice, turn into animals. Wild Mage Wolf-Speaker The Emperor Mage The Realms of the Gods
Protector of the Small Quartet: Way after Song of the Lioness, girls can now sign up to be knights. Keladry is the first, ten years after this decree was made. However, she has to do a probationay year first. The First Test Page Squire Lady Knight
Trickster's Choice and Trickster's Queen: Alanna's daughter is employed by the Trickster God Kyprioth to put a raka (black) queen back on the throne of the Copper Isles, after years of unfair luarin (white) rule. ~~~~~
heart SWEEP by Cate Tiernan. SWEEP is a series of...12 books i think(plus a meganovel) about a girl who finds out she's a "bloodwitch". The series is really good. dramatic, romantic, suspenseful, it's all there. Although it kinda stretches wicca um..alot, it does include a few things that actually are somewhat true. They are really good books, as long as you don't take them too seriously. I've read them all (xcept the first one ) andI give the entire series 9/10 stars ^_^ I love them! ~Rainy
~~~~~ heart Daughters of the Moon by Lynne Ewing. DOTM really has nothing to do with Wicca itself. The storyline is that Selene, goddess of the moon, sent her daughters to earth to protect the earth from evil. Each girl having her own special power. I figured it deserved to be listed here because of its main idea, which involves several different goddesses and mythological figures. Its a very long series, but so far (im on book 4) its worth the reading. Really great reads. 7-8/10 i think. ^_^ ~Rainy ~~~~~
These don't really have to do w/ wicca itself in most cases, but are really good fantasy, horror, etc. thought i might add them for your enjoyment.
Having fiction books about Wicca is great as long as you know that not every thing in it will actually happen or work as it gives you a chance to read something telling you about a person with your beliefs and problems. Sorry if i sound confusing but i have trouble getting my ideas down as they're always look better in my head. redface
I think it's a great idea to have a books list such as you have mentioned. I also think that those who want to join the wiccan religion only to do super cool magic tricks should be able to understand that there is so much more involved then that, and that's not even the main focus. As for the Tamora Pierce books, I love them so much, they really got me interested in fiction stories. I can't wait for her next books! whee
I love Tamora Pierce too! I've read all her books so far, except for Trickster's Queen. Has anyone read that? How was it?
Silver Ravenwolf writes a Wiccan fiction series. I haven't read it though, but people say it should be eally good, since she's so good at writing fiction. xp
I've never really read a Wiccan Fiction...I do read more of the gothic vampiric novels but that's about it. I did read some of one of Anne Rice's books on witches called Lasher. *mew*
I love to read!!! Anything from Stephen King, to Stienbeck. I love books!!!! One of the books I had to read for school that I really enjoyed is Daimen by Herman Hess, it was fantastic! I love Ann Rice, Forgotten Realm, Drangon Lance, Hemingway, Orson Scott Card and well if I listed all the authors I liked there would be no more room on this thread, Oh I also love Harry Potter and I don't see the connection between it and wicca
I think people connect it solely because of the magic in the novel.
