Batman & Batman Returns > Batman Begins & Dark Knight

Just saying

Batman Forever & Batman and Robin sucked though.

Tim Burton + Michael Keaton = Awesomeness

But...But....Heath Ledger died before the release of Dark Knight...that automatically makes it better, right??

Seriously though, I liked all four movies, but I do prefer the darker tones of the newer installments slightly better.

I didn't like the angle they went with Ledger's Joker, though. I mean, yeah, the guy was a psychotic killer, but he was still comical. This one...this one was just plain too dark. Not like Nichelson's Joker (the best, in my opinion).

But yeah, screw the Clooney Batmans.

I think the darker tone works with Batman, but not all his villains.

That is why Burton's were so great, they were dark, but not so dark they were trying so hard to be creepy.

I think Nolan forgets that the reason Joker was such an intimating, creepy, and classic character is that he took killing and death so light heartily and comically. It is easy to make a killer scary by dressing him dark and making him demonic, but it is really scary if his is bright and cheerful while slaughtering people.

Nicholson was a great Joker, best on screen in my opinion. Hamill probably did a better job, but he was only voice acting.

But some of Batman's villains do work better the creeper they get, which I think Burton knew a lot better than Nolan. I mean how freaking creepy is DeVito as the Penguin? That is flawless. Burton did a good job of keep the bright bright and the dark dark.

I think Nolan confuses realism with pessimism. It is a thin line though.

Final note, I hated Dark Knight though so I may be biased sweatdrop

Oh and welcome back Kev

Batman- Keaton and Nichelson played their parts perfectly. Batman was dark, mysterious, consumed, obsessed, vengeful, and just what you would want in Batman. Joker was psycho yet funny.

Batman Reurns- Phifer was a nice Catwoman, I liked the whole 9 lives thing. DeVito made yo hate him and love him. At the end you actually feel bad for both villians, that's good. Up until Justice League, Batman was all about pain and suffering, the darkside of life.

Batman Forever- Kilmer was a nice Bruce but a bad Batman. Jones did a nice Two-Face. Carrey stole the stage as the Riddler though, I think he would have played a better Joker but alas.

Batman & Robin- Remember that Batman from the 60s? This was almost as campy and silly. Nipples on the Batman suit? talk2hand The corny puns. talk2hand The zoom in on Batgirl's a**. Yeah baby! (Yes like many guys from the 80s I wanted Alicia Silverstone)

Batman Begins- Batman seemed too soft for this to be the beginning. Bruce was obsessed for a very long time and I forget who softened him up, but anyway, the new stuff was cool. The Joker was sick and twisted but there was no humor. Joker is the kind of guy who plays with his victims, uses typical clown humor to annoy them all while making them suffer. The animated series did a superb job with Joker.

I agree with 99 percent of this, except Tommy Lee Jones portrayal of Two Face. He was way to giggly. He was like a Joker in Two Faces body.
