Since triggering the return of her memories, Goosie has become overwhelmed with thoughts and events from early childhood until her final days as Chloe. This thread explores snippets of memory as they drift to the surface of her consciousness, or she pursues them.

This is a thread only I am intended to post in, if for some reason someone else *is* posting in there then they must've gotten special permission from me!

'Chloe!'

Inside her mind images swam, voices buzzed, one person's seeming to stand out in the haze. The distant woman's voice gradually approached, a dreamy misty hue to every syllable.

'Good morning sunshine~'...

"I'm not a sunshine!" She snapped, ducking her head under her pillow with a frustrated groan as it suddenly became way too bright, "I'mstilltireddd! Ten more minutes!"

Birds were chirping somewhere, she could hear laughter outside.

'Uh huh, I gave you ten minutes already...the birds are singing, it's a beautiful day and you're going to be late if you don't get up. Come on, I made you breakfast!'

"I'm fine with that!" Came her thick response, kicking her feet a bit.

'Come on Chlo, Brian'll be late too if he has to drive you.'

"Then tell him not to!" She snapped, waiting impatiently for her mother to leave so she might get back to sleep.

'You know he's busy with work now, don't make things...'

She shut her pillow around her ears as everything began to dissipate, the haze overpowering her again. The birds stopped chirping, her clock was ticking now instead, her old clock before she got the digital one.

'Get up!'

"Get outtttt!" She whined, only they didn't, they sat on the edge of her bed and began to tickle her. She shrieked, momentarily overwhelmed by the noise before coming back to and reaching over to smack her sister with her pillow.

'Ah! It's your turn to walk him, jesus Chloe, stop kicking!'

"I'm tired!" She cried as the pillow was wrenched away from her, her sister laughing as she turned the tables on her, "No!"

'Come onnnn, you promised! Gawd, you're such a brat!'

"I'm just authority challenged!" She retorted, snickering as her sister got up and started to leave, thinking she'd won. She sat up, watching her sister retreat into the swimming colors of her bedroom doorway.

'Yeah yeah, get up, smart a**. It's raining out, enjoy!'

"You have got to be kidding me--Ericaaaa!" She called, clambering to her feet and running into the gloom.

Things melted away again, as if she were falling back into a dream. She heard rain pelting the ground, and then felt the overwhelming heat. She opened her eyes slowly, blinking at the painfully bright lights and watching something blurry circle overhead. Then it was gone. The buzzing and haze returning, she lost track again and fell off her mind's beaten track.

Laying down on the ground, she lifted her hand to catch some of the droplets as they fell. There was an eerie, distant silence. She sat up, looking around the scarcely populated beach and then out at the water. It started to get pelted with a barrage of rain from the intense and worsening thunderstorm. Shielding her eyes with her forearm, she watched waves crash on the beach and laughed silently as the wind whipped her hair all around her face, only to be jerked up by someone grabbing her arm and dragging her off of the beach at a run, back into the gloom.

The rain pelted the ground around her. She could also feel it better now. It was a warm day in spite of the weather, she noted to herself, stopping to let Buster sniff a neighbors' fence. Through the misty haze she could make out buildings all around, the ground covered in a thin layer of rainwater. She urged her dog on through the rain, her voice sounding distant even to herself. 'I'm asking for a cat next time!' she informed the dog, her voice drifting into her memory as if on a delay. Suddenly Buster broke into a full-on run down the street and she had no choice but to run after him, her mingled yells for him to stop it all seeming to culminate at the same point before the mist overwhelmed her.

'Where's Chloe, I want her to be here for this!' Came the male voice from the living room. She looked up hopefully from her barely-touched dinner and at her mother.
'She hasn't finished her dinner yet!' Called her mother.
'She can finish it later!' Her sister's plead came.
There was a high-pitched barking followed by the shrill laughter of two little girls and Chloe decided not to wait any longer, dropping her fork and barreling out of her chair, into the living room. As soon as she spotted the dog she nearly tackled it, scooping it up into a frantic hug and shrieking 'YOU GOT A PUPPY!!'
Her father laughed as the two other girls and her brother all clambered to try and pet the puppy as soon as Chloe, who could no longer hold his wriggling body, had placed him on the floor.
'Do I at least get a hug?' Her daddy asked, and she was only too obliged, throwing her arms around him and yelling 'thankyoudaddy!'
As Buster's barking began to fade, and so did the chattering around her, she drew back to turn and play with the puppy while it all went dark.

There's something strange about this...it's so quiet.

She blinked a few times, looking around the room as it began to come into focus. Little snippets of things blurred past her before MK walked over with a grunny perched on his shoulder, clearly speaking to her though she heard none of it. She kept her distance for a moment before approaching and reaching out to touch Bubbles, the slurred and strangely isolated sound of MK's voice managing to break through the tense silence, 'Just think of him as a green rabbit.' Then suddenly it had made a lunge for her, the scene fading away as she ducked down to try and avoid it. Her shrieking lingered through the silence a moment before everything settled into gloomy darkness.

The bright fluorescent lights had always bothered her. Blinking mistily through her tears, she noticed a window full of bunnies and let go of her father's hand, running over to plant both of hers on the glass and yell something about wanting to take one home. Her eldest sister had grabbed her hand and started pulling her away just as she began to tantrum.

'Holy s**t, what is he doing?' Her friend Katherine asked and she looked up, the cool air of nearly night-time kicking up a slight breeze as she spotted Temple in the distance and quickly reacted with 'What the <********> Temple!' before running over to give him a rough shove away from something. At their feet was a cat that seemed very newly dead, which he'd been kicking around. She hastily crouched down to give it a look-over as Temple laughed a bit.
'Eww, what the ******** is wrong with you!' Katherine was yelling from somewhere behind her.
'That is gross! You're sick!' Amanda told him as ******** off!' Temple laughed, 'I didn't kill it, I just found it here.'
'Like that's so much better?' She asked, standing and giving him another shove, 'What the ******** Temple!'
'Watch it!' He warned jeeringly before giving her a shove back, though he'd barely done so when Katherine stepped in and gave him a quick kick to the shin, 'Ow, s**t!'
'Get the ******** out of here before we call the cops!' Amanda chimed in.
She lifted her hand to rub her side, having bumped into the bridge's railing when she was shoved.
'Make me.' Temple said.
There came a lot more yelling but it all began to blend as the warm colors of sunset overpowered the memory and she stepped in once more.

'The animals have always shown a sort of adoration for you.' He said, and it was otherwise silent.

Light danced blindingly on the water as she crouched down, watching a few ducks swim past at the local pond. Behind her she could hear her friends shrieking and fooling around.
'Here ducky duckies!' She called, much to the mirth of Amanda who broke into a string of giggles and called her a "crazy b***h".
'Shut up!' She called over her shoulder with a grin, 'They like me!'
Reaching over to pluck a few leaves off the ground, she tossed them into the water to tempt the birds closer. One drifted nearby curiously, mistaking her offering for food. As it neared she leaned forwards, reaching out. It shouldn't have surprised her when she felt someone plant their hands on her back and shove her into the water, the shrill laughter of her friends and followed by the deafening plunge she took being the last things she heard before it all began to drift away.

'Why do you even like fishing?' She asked of the man she'd decided to sit down next to, 'It looks so boring.'
'I find it relaxing.' The man explained, glancing down at her from below the rim of his hat. His face swam a little before she looked out at the sea.
'Why?' She asked, swinging her legs on the edge of the dock.
'Because it is for me. Don't you find anything relaxing?'
'Relaxing is boring.' She said.
'Aren't those kids looking for ya'?' The man asked, nodding to her brother and oldest sister, Allison as they wandered along the beach, yet to see her. Their voices drifted on by as they called her name.
'I don't care, I'm mad at them.' She retorted, leaning back on her palms and pouting.
'Why's that?' He asked.
'They said I'm spoiled!' She explained, as though it ought to be obvious.
'Well, are you?'
'No.' She said sullenly.
'That's good, spoiled kids usually have problems when they grow up.'
She looked over at him, opening her mouth and about to retort when they interrupted with a loud 'CHLOE!', apparently having spotted her.
'Bye.' She said to the man, standing up and jogging down the dock until she reached close enough to shore to jump onto the beach and run off and away from her siblings' shouts to come back.

'Mom! I see a starfish!' Her sister Erica called for what must have been the fifteenth time.
'Then bring it over, I'm not going in again!' Her mother laughed beside her.
Lifting a bucket of sand haphazardly, she lost her grip on it and dropped it right onto the sand castle her and her brother were working on. A large chunk of it fell apart and got washed away with the surf.
'Mom!' He yelled, 'Chloe ruined it!'
'No!' She shrieked, already growing misty-eyed.
'Yes she did! Look! She ruined it!'
'NO NO NO!'
'Brian! She is five years old, don't start.'
'But she did!' He whined.
'Brian!' Her father warned.
She burst into tears, wailing loudly.
'Hey Chloe!' Erica called, running over, 'Look! What is it?'
Wiping at her eyes, she blinked mistily as the image of a starfish her sister was holding out for her swam back and forth in her hands. She reached for it as her family members' reactions all began to mingle together and everything blurred.

'So you really like fish, huh?'
She turned away from the Level 3 Aquarium to look at MK, 'Well...I guess so! I um, I like the aquarium, it's big and pretty and then the fish are like a bonus. Sometimes I wish...'
Everything went momentarily fuzzy and overexposed, the conversation becoming a low mumble. Events seemed to jumble together. As if catching up with herself, everything suddenly came back into sharp focus, but the topic had changed.
'Do you have whales here? Or dolphins? I like them. I wanted to grow up with whales...'
'Whales...? No, none here. Though there may be a dolphin in the south tank. There was definitely a lot of sand, but I'm pretty sure you were raised by a normal family...' His voice petered off, as did her reply, and after another moment of incoherence she found herself staring into the aquarium, watching a puffer fish flutter past her and the seemingly endless blue gloom slowly enveloping her memory. One lasting sentence seemed to drift out of the fog.

'... We will do what we can to help you to regain your memory...'

She stared into the lion enclosure, waiting boredly for any of them to show.
'It's hot out today so they're probably all hiding in the shade,' Jessica explained to her, 'Hey, want to go see the reptiles?'
'Okay.' She said, sounding a bit sullen. She'd been excited about seeing the lions most of all.
'Jeez Chlo, cheer the ******** up, will you?' Brian asked, giving her a quick pinch and producing a ********!' She snapped, rubbing her arm and quickly stalking off ahead.
Things melded together before Brad, Jessica's boyfriend, stepped out of the gloom in the reptile house.
'Brian can be kind of an a*****e, just ignore him.' He told her.
She looked away from the snake she'd been watching and up at him, his face swimming dizzyingly.
'Yeah, he's my brother, I kinda live with him so.' She explained.
'Well Jess and I think you're fine so don't worry about what he says sometimes, he's just looking out for you anyway.' Brad clapped a hand on her shoulder. Something felt out of place as they met eyes momentarily.
Turning back to the cage she said 'If you say so.'
Brad laughed a bit, 'Hey, Jess and I wanted to ask, do you wanna come camping with us for the long weekend?'
She mulled it over before saying 'I don't really like camping.'
'C'mon, it's not just camping, it's camping with us! Hey, we always bring drinks if that helps any! It's a blast!'
She looked at him for a moment before suddenly grinning '...Okay, sure!'
'Awesome, you rock. K, I'm gonna go check out the iguana, feel free to give Brian a smack next time he's a d**k. We won't stop you!'
She turned back to the cage again, smiling a little to herself before giving the glass a tap.

'Brad?' She asked, sitting up a little in the back seat.
'Mm?' He asked, 'What's up, Chlo?'
'Um...I don't mean to be like pushy but...you said you were going to tell Jess?' She looked pointedly away and out of the window, hugging one of her knees close.
'Yeah, yeah I am,' He said heavily, sitting up and then waving a hand in front of her eyes to get her attention, adding 'Hey. I am. I promise.'
She smiled a bit, feeling sheepish before reaching up to take his hand and hold onto it. Through the fuzziness of his features she could tell he was smiling back as he leaned in to kiss her, the two of them sinking back down.

Staring down at her phone, she was getting anxious.
"Hello?" She texted, "Did something happen?"
Jiggling her knee uncomfortably, she stared at the phone a moment longer before tilting her head back and sighing heavily. Then it started buzzing. She scrambled to open the text before reading.
"Hey...sry, wanna meet me somwhere? need to talk."
She hastily wiped at her eyes and tucked her phone into her pocket, clambering to her feet and grabbing a sweater before running out of the room and into the haze, her mother's voice calling 'Chloe? Erica, tell her it's her turn to take down the laundry!'
'Later!' She yelled, slamming the door and disappearing into the mist.

She stared down at the clothes as she folded them, that same eerie silence stagnantly sticking to the blurry memory. She felt a hand touch her shoulder and got chills, closing her eyes before she turned, the words being hard to make out as they passed between her and MK.
She sunk down onto the bed, putting her head in her hands as things fragmented fuzzily around her.
'You are thinking a little too deeply on this. And I hope that you will take the time to understand better your situation.'
Things became almost incomprehensible, but she found herself asking to an otherwise incoherent gloom of undefined fuzzy images...
'W-What is that?'
'Little chemical I've been working on...Seems I've been having some issues in testing it. '

She clutched her pillow, sobbing into it openly.
'Chloe, c'mon, talk to me please!' Erica pleaded from her spot on her bed.
'I can't!' She said, muffled by her covers.
'What the heck happened? We're all really worried!' Her sister urged.
'I-I don't want to talk about it!'
'Come on! Was it something someone said?'
'No!'
'Was it a boy?'
She didn't respond, wiping at her eyes and sniffling a bit before curling up tighter. She felt her sister give her a shake.
'It was, wasn't it? C'mon, it'll feel better once you talk about it! I promise!' Erica's voice insisted, then the blankets were peeled back.
She blinked as the light poured past her covers before sitting up and looking at her sister blearily. Wiping her eyes again, she finally said a quiet 'You can't tell anyone...'
'I won't.' Her sister promised.

'Hey!' She greeted Brad, jogging the rest of the distance when she spotted him by his car.
'Hey...' He said, accepting her hug.
'What did you wanna talk about? Did you tell her?' She asked, smiling.
'Uhh...s**t...Chloe, this isn't going to work out.'
She pulled back, looking up at his face 'What do you mean?'
'L-listen, s**t, uh, don't look like that, okay? I just...I'm sorry, I can't do it. You're so young, I mean...it just wouldn't have worked out--'
'--But you said it didn't matter!' She interrupted, suddenly frantic, 'You said so! And you promised! You ******** promised!'
'Chloe, please don't tell anyone, okay? I don't want Jess to ********!' She spat, wiping at her eyes and nose as she started to break down.
'I'm really sorry.' He said.
'W-well why weren't you sorry BEFORE?' She demanded, shaking her head feverishly and sobbing a bit.
'...Look, just don't say anything to anyone, okay? I have to go...I'll see you around.'
'W-what the ******** ever!' She yelled as he got into the car, giving it an impassioned kick before it started up and drove off. Wiping at her eyes again, she watched him drive off before bursting into tears full-on and turning to lean on the nearby fence for support as she put her head in her hands.

'Chloe...' Erica stared at her in disbelief 'He's like...ten years older than you...I mean, isn't he going out with Brian's friend?'
'I-I ******** knew you wouldn't understand!' She snapped, 'Just go away!'
'No, Chloe, seriously...you didn't do anything, did you?'
'Go AWAY!' She threw herself back down on the bed.
'Oh jesus...'

She opened the door, grumpily kicking off her shoes and turning to drop her bag when she saw her parents and Brian standing in the living room.
'Chloe? We really need to talk...' Her mother said.
'...Okay?' She said, feigning ignorance as she dropped her bag on the couch. It was hard to ignore how disgusted Brian was looking.
'Can you sit down?' Her mother asked, gesturing to the couch.
'Why?' She asked.
'Just sit the ******** down!' Brian practically yelled.
Chloe winced and felt her heart leap into her throat, sitting down on the couch and staring at the her lap.
'Brian, you should go find something else to do.' Her father told him.
'No, you know what, no--what the ******** is wrong with you, Chloe?'
'W-what?!' She demanded, looking up at him.
'You ******** know what!'
'Brian!' Her mother said, '********, what the ******** were you THINKING?' He demanded, 'Do you know how ******** upset Jess was?!'
She swallowed hard, shaking all over as she got misty-eyed but not finding herself capable of finding anything to say.
'Brian! Go! Now!' Her father said.
'Do you what they ******** call this, Chloe!? It's called RAPE! He's a ******** RAPIST!'
'I-I'm sixteen, I-I'm allowed--' She said shakily, staring down at her lap and trying to contain herself.
'--NO YOU AREN'T, YOU AREN'T ******** ALLOW--'
'--Alright, that's ENOUGH!' Her father said, and she looked up, watching him lead Brian out of the room. The yelling carried on down the hall.
'Chloe, sweetheart, you need to tell m--' Her mother started.
Not being able to take much more of this, she stood, grabbing her bag and running past her mother and into the kitchen, then up the stairs, shoving her way past her father and Brian as they argued in the upstairs hallway.
'Where the ******** do you think you--' Brian started, making a grab for her which she managed to shirk before bursting into her room and slamming the door shut behind herself, locking it and then sinking down against it. As she put her head into her hands and sobbed quietly, she heard the muffled sound of her mother and father talking. She jumped as she felt a loud banging on the door.
'You owe her a ******** apology!' Brian's voice yelled through.
As she shook, the world finally began to ebb and fade, the shouting becoming distant and foreign.

Through the haze a merry-go-round creeked a little in the breeze.
'So you got ******** over, literally.' Temple said, coming into view.
'That's one way of putting it.' She agreed uncomfortably.
'Well, good ******** job.'
'Whatever, I just don't want to see my friends right now. They're going to think I'm some kind of whore.'
She glanced at Temple, who shrugged, before pushing herself a little in the swing she was sitting in.
'Anyway, thanks. Somehow it wasn't horrible hanging out again.'
He shrugged once more.
'I didn't want to come out alone, that's all, it's pretty late.' She justified.
'Yeah, I don't really care.' He responded, 'Speaking of late, I should probably go home. You ready to go back?'
'No, but I guess I have to.' She said, standing as he did.
She paused for a moment.
'Hey, do you remember when we used to play?' She asked.
'No, I'm braindead. Of course I do.' He said, looking around and stopping.
'I liked dragons the most.'
'That's because you liked ******** slaying me.' He said, shaking his head with a dry laugh.
'Yeah, that's exactly right!' She agreed enthusiastically.
'Right, whatever, come on. It's getting ******** cold out.' He said, turning to leave. She followed after into the dark.

'Ew, what is he wearing today?' Katherine asked, the classroom sharply coming into view.
She looked up and saw Temple, stifling a bit of a laugh.
'Hey, do you just wear whatever you find on the street?' Amanda called across the classroom, producing a giggle from the rest of ******** off.' Temple said as he turned to look at them.
'Someone's got a TEMP-er!' Teased Katherine.
'That was terrible!' She said, burying her head in her arms and shaking with laughter so much that her desk trembled.
'Someone broke Chloe!' Amanda called as she continued laughing.
'How old are you again?' Katherine asked through her giggles.
'I thought we were in grade nine now!' Amanda chimed in.
'S-shut up!' She retorted, looking up and stifling a few more giggles as everything began to get brighter.

The sun beat down on her. She stared up at the passing clouds, the grass tickling her legs. She smiled a little bit, reaching up to shield her eyes and listening to the mumble of Katherine, Amanda and Melissa chattering away.
'That one looks like your a**!' Melissa told Katherine, much to the others' mirth.
'Chloe, when's your thing?' Amanda asked.
'Tuesday.' She answered, looking over at her friends.
'Are you putting on a strip show after?' Melissa asked, producing a snort from Katherine.
'Yes, yes I am, I'm going to strip naked in front of the my entire friggin' dance class and my family and shout "LIKE WHAT YOU SEE?" at the top of my lungs.' She joked as the others cracked up. She laughed a bit too, shaking her head and adding 'You freaks.'
As she looked back up at the sky, everything seemed to get dark around the sun.

Looking down from the bright stage lights, she waited a few moments before taking her cue.
'Oh no, what ever has happened to the good doctor.' She unenthusiastically read from the script she held in her hand.
'Hang on, hang on! Chloe, you have to put a LITTLE more feeling into it than that!' Their teacher called over the giggles of her friends.
She sighed a bit.
'Oh NO! What EVER has HAPPENED to GOOD doctor!' She said, causing several of them to burst out laughing.
'...We'll come back to it. Your turn, Matt.'
'MAHAHAH! I AM DOCTOR JEKYLL NO MORE!' Matt bellowed theatrically, much to the amusement of her friends who were continuing to laugh off-stage.
'Sorry sir, but you really aren't much of a writer.' She told her teacher, who looked mortified for a minute.
'Alright, that's it for today! Chloe, a word?' He finally managed to splutter.
As she heaved a bit of a sigh and waved to her friends, they began to blur, and her teacher's directions for others going off-stage began to sound farther and farther away.

The world swam around her. She saw someone walking into the strange little room she had woken up in, a man, MK. He was fuzzy and hard to make out. She felt a lot of things, like fear, and bewilderment. She was thirsty. After a brief exchange, he offered her some water and she didn't hesitate to drink it. Things got a bit hazier as she settled down into the bed, his hand reaching out to touch her forehead and the low rumbling of words she couldn't make out reaching her. Everything was tinted brighter than it should be, she was sure. She blindly reached out to clutch his arm.

...Doctor...

'She has a fever.'
She heard her mother's voice drift in from the hallway and rolled onto her side, waiting for her to come back.
'Okay. Okay. Yeah, remember to bring a movie home with you. Love you too. Bye.'
'Mommy,' She called, watching as her mother swam back into view and sat down on her bed.
'Yes, sweetie.' Her mother said, pushing her hair back and feeling her forehead.
'I get to watch a movie?' She asked, putting on her best smile.
Her mother's fuzzy face seemed to return the smile.
'Later, for now I want you to drink your water and then go back to bed. Here.'
She took the water her mother was offering to her, drinking a bit of it from a straw and then wiping her mouth before settling back down and yawning.
'Call me if you need anything, sweetheart.'
She closed her eyes, everything beginning to ebb away.

A low buzzing began to overpower her and she looked around. 'Are you still sick?' Amanda asked, grabbing her attention back.
'It was allergies!' She complained, 'Stop acting like I'm a freaking leper!'
'I don't want to get sick before exams!' The girl cried.
'Oh no, watch out or my evil allergies'll like totally get you!' She teased, wiping her hand on Amanda's arm.
'Eww!' Her friend squealed.
'Hey, is Tanya sick too or is that just her regular face?" Katherine asked.
She looked up and over at the girl sitting at the table nearby, reading one of her library books.
'She always looks like that.' She told her friends, who giggled a bit.
The girl seemed to go on reading, though they all knew she was in listening range.
'Hey,' She said, waiting to get her attention before continuing, 'My friends are wondering why you always look like death.'
The girl didn't seem to know what to say, Katherine and Amanda laughing loudly. She laughed a bit too before turning back to them.
'What a loser!' Amanda said, a little louder than necessary.
'Alright, out.' The librarian said from her desk.
'What?' Katherine asked, 'We're studying!'
'I don't tolerate that kind of behavior in here. Out!'
She rolled her eyes, getting up when Katherine and Amanda did. They gathered their things and left the library.
'Whatever, she deserved it.' She justified to the others, though the more she thought about it, she had no idea why.
'Last year she stuffed her bra.' Amanda informed them.
'Who the ******** stuffs their bra in grade six?' Katherine asked.
She laughed and wandered off with her friends.

'She's such a freak.' Melissa said, giving a passing girl a disgusted look.
She rolled her eyes a little, 'Aren't we kind of old for acting like this?'
'She is, look at her. I hear she thinks she's a ******** witch.'
'Who cares!' She said, 'You care way too much about other people.'
'I do not. How the ******** am I supposed to ignore it when they flaunt that s**t at me all the time?'
'I don't know, how about by not giving a s**t?' She offered, sitting down at the lunch table across from Katherine and Amanda.
'Shut the ******** up, Chloe, like you're any better.' Melissa remarked as she sat down.
'Yeah, I am.' She snapped irritably.
'At least I'm not a skanky ******** slut!' Melissa shot ******** you.' She snarled, turning to glare at her "friend".
'Jesus guys, calm the ******** down.' Katherine urged, Amanda putting her head in her hands and groaning.
'What the ******** is your problem?' Melissa demanded.
'You are, you're whiny and bitchy and no one ******** likes you.' She informed her.
'Oh yeah?'
'Yeah, and by the ******** way, when you talk about someone behind their back it DOES get around.' She added haughtily, standing up and stalking off down the aisle, ignoring the giggles and murmurs of nearby students as everything began to mingle once more.

She heard her alarm buzzing and groaned, reaching for it through the fog.
'Shut upppp....' She complained, feeling for it and then opening an eye. Something strange...
There was a sudden jerk and she felt herself flung, everything blurry and roaring, followed by a heavy crash into an intense heat. Groaning, she sat up and coughed, blinded by the intense sunlight. Everything had a delay.
'H-hello there! Are you alright?'
She got her first glimpse of MK, squinting fuzzily at the man. The words began to jumble again as they had a brief exchange, she stood shakily and then stalked forwards. Everything flickered as she grabbed his coat and demanded something of him.
'...Home! Now!' Her voice lingered. She brushed past him, the summoning portal flickering and swimming in her vision before things disintegrated.

'I have something to tell you.' Brian said as he started the car up.
She turned away from looking out of the window and looked at him, 'Yeah?'
'Me and Jess are engaged. I asked her last night.' He said.
'Seriously?' She asked, smiling a bit.
'Seriously.' He said, backing out of the driveway and turning them onto the road.
'Cool...' She said, leaning against the window and looking back out.
'We both want you there, okay?' His voice drifted over.
'Okay.' She agreed, a little less enthusiastic.
'She doesn't care anymore.' He told her.
Not knowing what to say, she continued to watch other cars pass by.
'You know family always comes first, right?' She heard him ask.
Glancing back at him, she shrugged a little and said, 'Sure.'
'I'm not mad about it anymore, it was two years ago. I just wanna be friends again, Chlo.' He explained.
She remained silent, leaning her head against the glass.
'Can we?' He asked after a lingering pause.
'I guess.' She said, lifting her gaze to watch the buildings whip past again.
'Okay.' His voice drifted over.
She remained silent, blinking the light out of her eyes as the glare from the sun hit the mirror on her side.
'So what are you learning today?' He asked, sounding a little forced.
'Nothing new, just more practice.' She responded, not bothering with details he wouldn't get anyway.
'I bet you're the best in the class, right?' He asked.
'Not really.' She admitted.
'Well, you're better than I am!' He joked.
'Yeah, I guess so.'
She heard him sigh a little and focused on the scenery outside again, feeling a pang of awkwardness. The objects blurred together dizzyingly as whatever he said next became inaudible.

A few seagulls squawked in the distance and she turned to look at Allison, laughing a bit.
'He said that?' She asked.
'Men, I tell ya'!' Her sister shook her head.
'Do you think I'm ever going to meet one who likes me back?' She asked.
'Are you kidding me? Of course you will, look at you!' Allison said, giving her sister's hair a ruffle, 'I wish you hadn't cut it all off though.'
'I like it like this!' She retorted.
'Does Eeeethan like it like that?' Her sister teased.
'Shut up!' She laughed, 'I may as well not freaking exist.'
'I bet he looks at you all the time and you just don't notice.' Her sister mused, pausing mid-walk to lean down and pick up a rock.
She watched her sister toss the rock into the water and then continued along with her.
'He doesn't. He's all "look at me, I'm unreasonably sexy and talented and I'll never be partnered up with you because fate is a cruel unrelenting b***h"!'
Allison laughed, shaking her head 'You're funny.'
She smiled, looking off at the water.
'When's your next lesson?' Her sister asked, drawing her attention back.
'Next week, I just had one yesterday.'
'And when do we get to see you dance again?'
'I dunno, no one's mentioned anymore shows.'
'You should dance at Brian's wedding, man, he'd love that!'
'No, it'd be weird.' She said, frowning a bit.
'It would not. You used to all the time when you were little! Sometimes in your diaper!'
'Eww, ugh, shut up.' She laughed, giving her sister a light shove.
The sounds of waves crashing overwhelmed her sister's response, and the brightness of the sun on the sand became too much.

Carrying a small shopping bag in one hand, she followed MK along as he lugged several others through town. The people passing by were more like colorful blurs. She stopped suddenly, a window catching her eye. Automated ballerinas were dancing around on a little pretend ice lake. Becoming transfixed with the amusing spectacle, she tilted her head a little.

'I... I don't know how to break this to you, my dear. You... You were practically left cold and alone on my doorstep.'

She put her hand on the glass, watching them spin fuzzily. She heard him call for her distantly and turned away, following after him.

You couldn't be more wrong.

Screams of laughter overpowered her as the scene began to fuzzily come into view. She ducked behind Erica as Brian flung a bucket of water their way, shrieking when both her and her sister were soaked through. Picking up the abandoned hose, Erica went after Brian and Allison as she followed suit, grabbing a half-full bucket of water and running back into the melding fray.

Running down along the beach, she abandoned her sandals and carried on after Amanda and Katherine, calling breathlessly for them to wait. They came to a stop, finally, and she practically bumped into them, leaning on Katherine as she caught her breath.
'Look!' Amanda shouted, pointing as the first fireworks went off, exploding.
Clutching one hand to her ear, she looked up and smiled breathlessly, giving Katherine a hasty hug before slumping down into a sitting position. The others joined her, watching as the sky exploded into bright, vibrant colors and the cracking grew quieter.

The room flickered a little and she blinked, taking an uneasy step back.

'In order for you to remember what was lost, you must be first given your memory. And I have it. I have it right here.'

She blinked again, opening her eyes and bursting into a fit of giggles at her mother and father, both of them playfully arguing on the couch.
'C'mon, unpause the movie!' Allison commanded, throwing a few bits of popcorn at the couple.
'Hang on, it's Chloe's birthday movie, she gets to decide when.' Her father said.
'Cake first!' She demanded, pausing to consider before pointing at Brian, 'YOU! Cake!'
'You always pick me!' He complained, getting up.
'You are the official cake getter in this house!' She called after him as he disappeared into the kitchen with a mock-pouty 'yeah yeah'.
Giggling again, she felt her mother lean over and give her a kiss on the forehead, smiling a little as Erica started rambling.

Rain pelted her as she stood on the corner of the road, waiting impatiently. It was hard to make anything out through the mist and the water, but after a moment she blinked as a few headlights pierced through the haze. Shielding her eyes as the car pulled up, she opened the door and clambered in, hastily pulling it shut and throwing her bag in the back before looking at her dad.
'Hey sweetheart,' He said, putting a hand on her shoulder as he checked his rear-view window before giving it a squeeze and started to drive, 'How was class?'
'It was okay,' She said, settling into the seat and mopping some of her hair back before twisting it into a very wet makeshift ponytail.
'Hey, I have a surprise for you when you get home!' He said, causing her to look up and grin a bit.
'Yeah? What is it?'
'It's a SURPRISE!' He said, laughing as she immediately began to whine and plead.
'Ah, I love you honey. But no, you aren't getting it out of me this time.'
Laughing a little bit, she settled back against the window and rolled her eyes, 'Love you too, dad.'
There was a momentarily pause as things began to meld together before she lifted her head and added a misty, '...Now tell me what it is!'

'RARR!' Cried Temple, kicking up some dirt in her direction.
'EN GUARDE!' She yelled back, stabbing at him with an imaginary stick.
He grabbed the stick and tossed it aside, producing an irritated 'NO FAIR! DRAGONS DON'T HAVE HANDS!' from her as she ran to retrieve it.
'So!' He teased, tripping her on the way back.
'Ow!' She yelled, having scraped her knee a bit. Things blurred as she crouched to examine the damage done.

She looked up as Amanda and Katherine piled into the photo booth beside her, having to squeeze off to the far side to make room and giving them both a mock-disgruntled look.
'Lose some weight!' She teased Katherine, who was far too skinny to take her seriously.
'Shut up and smile for the god damn camera!' Amanda told them before shoving both of their heads down just as the flash went off, giggling maniacally when the other two complained and groaned.
'That's the fiftieth time, I swear!' Chloe remarked, fixing her hair as they scooted out. Stepping past the curtain, everything became overwhelmingly bright.

'What...do you mean?' She asked, the lab flashing between blurry and clear as she took another step back.

She looked up at the sky as her brother carried her along on his back, pointing at the various clouds as they came and went. The blue of the sky drew her in as she reached for it.

She twirled around and around, faster and faster, before finally slowing to a stop and staggering forwards. Bumping into Erica, she giggled and clutched her sister's jacket for support.
'Crazy crazy girl!' Her sister told her, turning around to steady her shoulders and then saying, 'Hey, do you want to go to see the ducks again?'
'Yeah!' She exclaimed, delighted at the thought.
'K, come on!' Erica told her, gesturing for her to follow as she turned and ran away from the rest of the family. She ran after her sister, past people and into the fog.

'Chloe?'
'Yeah?' She asked, looking over at Amanda.
'Hey, after this are we still going to hang out?'
'It's just school ending, who cares. It means we get to hang out without a bunch of stupid people in the way, that's all.' Katherine said from her other side.
'I think so.' She told Amanda, turning to look back out at the sea.
'Cool, 'cause there's no way in hell I bought you that bag just so you could go off to college and forget about me!' Amanda teased.
'I couldn't even if I tried.' She joked, smiling at her friend before leaning her head on Katherine's shoulder and yawning. Amanda did the same with her.
'We need a new fouth person.' Katherine commented, producing a giggle from the others.

She looked up from her video game long enough to see her mother sneaking in with something hidden behind her back. Smiling, she put the controller down and said 'I knew it!'
'Happy birthday, sweetie!' Her mother said, offering her a bag decorated with yellow and blue ribbon.
She grabbed it and began to rifle with the tissue paper, eager to open it up.
'Chloe, look up for a second!' Her father called, and just as she did she was blinded with the flash from his camera.

Things began to blur more and more, she could hear distant laughter, her friends talking, then her family, strangers, the school bell, her alarm clock...buzzing again and again at a steady rhythm.

Then silence.

'...but we're going to have to start from scratch.' His voice drifted in, shattering the quiet.

She stared at him for a moment, everything seeming slow and deliberate. Taking another step back, he suddenly moved toward her. She felt him grab her as she turned to try for the door, her terrified shriek muffled by the cloth as he held it over her nose and mouth, making it difficult to breathe. Clawing at his hands, she tried to wrench free, her heart pounding in her chest so loud it sounded like a--
