(Newser) – Scientists say they've finally created the "male pill"—and it sounds pretty easy to swallow. Developed by researchers in Israel, the oral pill works by removing a crucial protein in sperm, effectively deactivating it before it reaches the womb. It's proven to be 100% effective—at least on mice. And that's not the only impressive upside. The pill only has to be taken once every three months, and reportedly has no impact on male sex drive or other side effects. Human trials begin next year; the pill could be available in three years, reports the Telegraph.

About time.
Now my only wonder is how many men will be willing to use it (as it seems less harmful/dangerous than even the female birth control pill, and much easier!)
I'm also thinking there is going to be ridiculous 'you're gay if you take the pill' crap going to go on amongst male teens. Or at least, that's my pessimistic worry.
I just hope they don't discontinue it if it doesn't pick up right away. Our gender stereotypes need to catch up with the times.

I don't think it will be to much of an issue because one would have to take it every three months. I just wonder if guys would forget to take it after three months are up.

Weeks from now, we will find out it causes Testicular cancer or other nasty side effects. Artificial drugs&medicines are always worse. We will wait and see. I won't take it until there is enough feedback on it. Like five years worth of use to be exact. I don't like to take new or experimental drugs. Just look at Acutane for example.

Right, but you have to remember people said similar things about the birth control pill and now it's widely used. There will probably be health risks, like with the female pill, but if they get it to where the health risks are minimal (like with with female pill) I see no reason why men can't take it. If men are willing for women to have potential blood cloths, then men should be willing to have them themselves.

Oh wow.. this makes me excited. n__n
I'm pretty sure I wouldn't trust a man who says he's on it.. like if it was a one night stand or something.. but in a committed relationship I'd be so down for him taking the pill. XD My boyfriend trusts me to take my pill everyday at the same time everyday.. so I'd trust him to take one pill every three months.. as long as he is alright with taking it.
Once all the kinks are worked out and it's been thoroughly tested on humans I'd so ask my man if he'd like to go on it.
I think quite a few teenage boys would be down for taking it.. I mean.. the main things they are worried about is knocking a girl up.. WHICH can happen with condoms.. so condom + male pill.. they'd be almost 100% carefree sex.

I'm always very wary of new meds too. I'm hoping this one will end up being even safer than the female versions. But we'll see! The fact that it only needs to be taken every three months gives me mixed emotions. I wonder how many guys will forget about it, especially since so many guys aren't used to being that involved with the birth control management in the relationship. xp But hopefully most couples would be using the male pill in addition to the female pill, condoms, the patch, or something else anyway.

Are males just SO forgetful, that they won't even remember to take a single pill in just three months? > neutral Honestly, if you just mark something on your calender, then there shouldn't be much of a problem. Lol, pretend that birthday, and be excited to take that pill. XD Celebrate-- if you know what I mean. = w =
Although I have the same wary feeling as Valgex. What if this affects fertility permently? Or all other sorts of maladies that may occur. It's not quite re-assuring....I give my luck to to those willing to try this new pill.

Sirix Storm Are males just SO forgetful, that they won't even remember to take a single pill in just three months? > neutral Honestly, if you just mark something on your calender, then there shouldn't be much of a problem. I am not saying men are SO forgetful that none of them will be able to remember to take a pill. Women have forgotten to take pills, to get Depo shots, to take out rings, etc. too. I am just saying I wonder how many men will end up forgetting. I wonder if men will be a bit more forgetful than woman since men are not used to having to take birth control yet, since some might be embarrassed, since guys aren't the ones who actually get pregnant, etc. Obviously the more mature people are, the more likely they are to remember and keep up with their birth control. But the ones who forget, can't keep track, can't keep up on it, etc. are usually the ones that we really don't want having kids...

Awsome!
You think logically it would be much easier to make their swimmers nonworking then make females unable to support life!
Not throwing the sperms in the first place seems much easier than trying to stop them from working once they are already there.
razz
I think if they are marketed properly they could be very well selling. I mean "be able to do what you want and not have to worry about an repercussions. No child support etc. Seems like a good idea. If guys can't see that they are nuts.
Imagine both people could be on BC how much better chances do you have of catching it then.
