So, out of all the debates out there, I don't see one actually dealing with evolution. In school we are taught the evolution theory, which seems really plausible. Not to sound anti-Islamic, but God zapping men out of the sky really doesn't seem feasible to me. Though it could have happened.

Anyway, I'm here to hear all kinds of different opinions on Evolution theory. Tell me, what do you think and why.

Well, it's on the fringe of the evolutionary talk, but I think the part in the Qur'an where it talks about how God formed man sounds like what happens when a zygote forms in a woman.

Clay would be the egg, sperm is obviously sperm, they would bind together and the cells would specify and form blood and...I think there was a fourth thing... Can't remember it right now but you see where I'm going, right?

I think evolution happened. It explains some of the quirks that humans have, and the DNA being 98 percent shared between us, chimps, and bonobos.

Only Allah knows but I have some views

A pig is more simmilar to human than monkeys. And it is said that it is not monkeys who became like us, but we became like them. But it may be true that some plants/animals evolve. But we humans are the chosen ones to rule the planet. Animals and plants are born to do specific things, while we are intelligent.

I know this probably isnt very correct but I always sort of found it hard to believe that Allah just put humans and animals and plants on the Earth.

What I do believe is that evolution occured and that Allah was the one to help it move along and allow it to form life and get as far as humans. So he did create man, he just didnt have them pop up on the planet. But this was always just a little theory floating around in my head. sweatdrop

I used to think that aswell.

But figuredout that the way it's wroten in the qur'an is right.

Maybe Allah created the animals on earth by evolution, but not humans.

note: It's only my opinion:.

Let me add that we dont know wat the first humans looked like!
they most likely have changed over time

like Charles Darwen's (i agree with some of his points but not all. just adding) theroy of eveloution and natural selection.

Darwin had some good point's as well, but if we evolved from single celled organisms, where did those come from? I don't really think anyone has had a major grasp on the correct way people came about this earth, since all we can really do is prod bones and shoot them with radiation. Evolution is supported by findings, is probably the most feasible hold on the past we have until we find a missing link.

Like there was that dog and the whale story, where it turns out that whales are actually related to some prehistoric dog/goat thing. That was supported by bone structure changes throughout a long, long, long time span.

@The_Pathan: Think about it, if Allah already took time out of his busy day to create man, then why make the rest of the animals evolve and not just make them then and there?

Actually, we share more genes with monkeys than with pigs, the only similarities between pigs and ourselves are the density of our skulls. Though it is possible, since we are Bipeds and they aren't.

What I learned in science class is that the single celled organisms were formed because around that time there were alot of chemicals floating around in the ocean and when they would sort of collide or mix they would create these organisms

But that itself is a theory, Symphony. If life were that simple to create, then why haven't we humans mixed together these chemicals and formed life? This isn't supported by any evidence, so all we can really do is just randomly shoot off guessed to what happened.

*facepalms with both hands, mumbles around palms* It's not that we come from monkies, it's that we have a common ancestor with monkies. Somewhere along the line the two species split off into monkies and humans from that ancestor.

Islam and evolution can co-exist quite nicely. Here is a nice breakdown of Qu'ran and understanding the verses in context with evolution and science.

This is a long discussion about attitudes on evolution
Science and Islam do not necessarily contradict one another. Though I find the website's attitude about monkeys to be rather annoying.
