As you enter, you can see a pile of odd machinery up against a wall. The hum of a small generator creates a pleasant background rhythm to the workins that occur here. Stray sparks of electricity can be seen from certain spots on abandoned projects, and pieces of robotics move around jerkily. The floor is swept clean, but there is various oilspills, and greasestains, from where something was left too long.
The dominant feature of the room; however, is the large contraption that is sitting in the exact center of the room. This is a prototype Quadratic Engine affixed with boosters, and a energy relay system to handle more energy than the basic unit that resides within Bobot, who is currently trundling around the room, grabbing certain tools, or moving things to a new spot. The Engine whines softly, like a dog about to start barking, and a faint pinkish glow can be seen from the belly of the beast, as it were.
Suddenly, a chunk of metal flies past you, narrowly missing your nose by mere inches. It collides with the opposite wall, making a resounding clank. From there, it falls to the floor, where it moves around a little before finally dieing down.
Now that your hearing has become adjusted to the whine of the engine, and the hum of the generator, you can hear a faint murmur.
"Ouch! Bleep it, that was the last one! Now where am I going to find another copper-lined filament tube?"
Someone's head is poking out from the edge of a sheet of machinery. They have long brown hair, and they seem focused on their work, ignoring you completely. One of their hands reaches up, and, as if on cue, receives the wrench from Bobot, who had brought it over while the chunk of metal went flying. The person grabs the wrench, and starts back on their work.
Several moments later, they sigh, and toss the wrench to the floor. They stand up, and you can see what they look like.
She is a young girl, no more than sixteen, with her hair tied back in a long ponytail, and a pair of goggles on her forehead. She is wearing a serviceable yet fashionable pink set of clothes, and there is a large tool pouch on her hip. She looks around, trying to find some missing component, and shrugs. Then she notices you.
"Oh, hello! What can I do for you?"

Precis leans back in the chair, and rubs her eyes tiredly. She had been installing the program, and it had taken the past three days to get it put in correctly. She ran a test, and the computer monitor showed a big xd to show that it was running properly. Not that she didn't trust the School's already existing security system, but she felt like putting her own little touches on her own computer system. It wouldn't have any affect on anything outside of this room, but in here, it was fairly powerful, able to tell quite a bit of information on all sorts of things, and affect some aspects of the room itself. In a soft, but still mechanical voice, the computer spoke. "PASSWORD operating at 97% efficiency. All systems green."
"Finally! That took forever! Man, I'm hungry!" Precis gets up, and leaves the room, heading towards the kitchen.

Precis walks back in, and sits down at her console. It has been running simulations on the energy output of the prototype up until now, and the simulations have finally finished. Everything seems to have worked, but there were several minor problems that could have bigger impacts on the real test. Sighing, she input some more data, adjusting the energy to fuel ratio, trying to find the one special combination. Her brow furrows, and her fingers move rapidly along the keyboard. Suddenly, Bobot trundles up to her, beeping about something.
"What is it, Bobot? I'm busy now!"
Bobot continues beeping, and manages to pry her attention away from the screen. A stack of replacement parts had fallen while she was gone, and collided with another pile of parts. Somehow noone had heard the noise, because it had apparantly happened a while ago. Parts were strewn across the floor, and several small electric components looked broken.
"Bleep! Well, let's get started, Bobot." Precis grabs her mechanical arms, which were better suited for this than her real ones, and started moving the bigger pieces of metal and electronic components. Bobot crawled under a large piece, and began collecting the smaller pieces. They continued like this for several hours, until finally everything was put back in it's proper place. There was a surprisingly small number of unrepairable pieces, considering the size of the mess. She took these over to a junk pile, and tossed them into it unceremoniously. They would stay there until she needed an extra piece of wire, or some other kind of easily replaceable thing. Or they might end up being used a sfodder in an attempt at a new invention, having their purpose and form altered at whatever whim happened to come across her mind.

Precis sat back, and looked at the glowing computer screen. It was still saying the prototype was working fine, that all it needed was more time to make sure there were no bugs. She got up, and went over to the scrap pile. Digging into it, she grabbed several broken machines. She took them to a table, and quickly dismembered them. Looking at the pieces, an idea blossomed in her head. Grabbing various parts and tools, she started assembling something new. Every once in a while, she would discard a needless part, or go to a shelf, and grab a replacement. Finally, she finished. It was a clockwork bird. She wound the spring, and let it go. It jittered for a moment, since this was it's first test, but then rose on it's metallic wings and began to buzz around the room. After doing this for a moment, it left the room, and went somewhere else.
"I wonder where it's going in such a rush? Oh well, at least it works!"
Precis goes back to her terminal, and continues monitoring the screen.

-Shia steps in, and looks around. She saw all the assorted machinery and stuff, and hoped she came to the right place.-
Hello? Is this the workshop?

Precis looks up from her screen when she hears the voice. Looking towards the door, she sees someone else actually inside her workshop.
"Oh, hello! You're the first person to visit me here! So, what can I do for ya?"
She gets up, and walks over to the visitor, smiling happily. It had started to get boring without anyone to talk to. Hopefully she would either stay and chat, or at least give her a project to work on.

red dragon walks in and rests at a table in the corner looking very shabby and tired, he lays his head face down on table.

Precis looks away from the first visitor to the second. She watches him go and sit down at a table by the wall, one of the few clean tables in the room. Clean was a questionable term, since their were several large oilstains on it, and the Quadratic Engine Prototype was fairly close to it, pulsing with energy, and possibly a bit of radiation. This hadn't been checked yet, but there was the possibility. If this new person wanted to be there, they were more than welcome to, but it might not be the best place to have a nap. She better let them know, just in case.
"Excuse me? If you're looking for a place to catch some z'z, you might want to check the Infirmary, or maybe see about getting your own room. This place isn't necessarily the safest in the school."

-Shia looks around, as several other people come in and out. She ahd no idea the workshop was already this busy. Well, she might as well ask, anyways.-
Well, normally when I'm here at the school, there's noone to be found. I want to get some sparring done, but with noone to go against, it doesn't work so well. I saw your robot earlier, so I was wondering if you'd be able to maybe make a robotic training partner, or something similar? I don't want to be any trouble, though.

Precis sees yet another person enter. They ask a question and leave almost immediately, so she isn't sure if it would be worth answering them or not. Then she looks back to her first visitor, and hears their question also.
"A robotic training partner? Sure, I could make one. Just give me some time to decide on some specs and whatnot. This'll take a couple of days, so come back on, let's see, maybe Tuesday? Yeah, it'll be ready by then."
With a project to work on, Precis turns away from the people in the room, and immediately gets to work, calling up specs on her terminal. This will just determine it's general power output and so forth, making sure it can actually be built, without wasting parts.

You can make it? Thank you! I guess I'll be back on Tuesday to check on it then. Thanks again!
-Shia smiles, and walks out of the workshop, stepping into the hallway. From there, she's headed for the lobby.-

Precis is sitting in front of her terminal, inputting data about the project she got. Her fingers fly over the keyboard, re-writing numbers, changing parameters, trying new combinations. After a while, an idea pops into her head. What if she were to put a smaller Quadratic Prototype Engine into the robot? It wouldn't have any problems with energy then, since the engine would give it all it could possibly need. Deciding on this, she adds it to the list, and corrects the energy measurements. With that much power, several security devices would have to be installed, along with some method of shutting down the engine, in case of an overload. With that done, now comes the fun part. She calls up a program that she had used only once before, and modifies it, seeing just how much she could add to it without it becoming overloaded with data. This would be the robot's AI programming, and the only time she used it before was on Bobot, which was a much simpler robot. She sends a query to EKASS, to find some video clips of fighting, and training, to give her an idea of just what this robot should have in the way of fighting skill. While waiting for the videos, she starts sketching out a faint blueprint, designing the skeleton and chassis. She decides to go with something that looks more or less human, so as to provide a more realistic training exercise. This would mean less armor surrounding the engine, but that should be tolerable, if she remembered to reinforce the little armor that was there.
The AI program was building a reservoir of knowledge now. Not just of fighting, but also social mannerisms, etiquette and general knowledge. It wouldn't do for this robot to be only useful as a training partner. There was so much more it could be capable of.
The basic outline of the AI was finished, now it was time to install the control system, so that Precis could exert control over it, if needed. She booted up a copy of her own terminal's security system, and installed it in the robot. The PASSWORD system took effect, and burrowed deep within the robot's programming.
It was then that Precis realized it should have a name. Just calling it 'robot' wasn't very respectful, so it needed a name. Eventually, Precis decided on something simple. Until it's personality quirks would stabilize, she would call it Quadratic Proto 1. It would take several weeks for any quirks in it's core AI to stabilize, so this name would last until then.
Precis sits back in her chair, rubbing her eyes. This would be enough for the time being. The computer could handle the rest of the programming, while she began to dig out the right parts to begin assembly. But first, sleep. She was a little tired, so lay back in the chair, and fell asleep.

red dragon eventually gets up from the table and wobbles out through the front door as if a littledrunk from radiation fumes but seemed alright. he waves bye to the owner before he leaves.
