fenshae It was a nice day out, Kamiya noted vaguely; not even her generally sour mood could detract from that. The sun was shining, but the heat had not yet set in, and she could enjoy the simple pleasure of the sun warming her pelt, the breeze cooling her skin.
Still, despite the pleasantness of the day, she was annoyed. Annoyed with Marion, for one. But mostly annoyed at herself, though she'd never admit it aloud.
Kami had left Kapu'Moana with all sorts of plans and ambitions. She had, at one time at least, wanted to see the world...to be free, and independent. But now that she had seen something of the world, the urge to run back home and hide was growing ever-stronger, and she was ashamed of herself for it.
Hating the feeling, the brilliantly-colored wolf prowled through the trees, fairly intent to slice in to the first thing that crossed her path. Chayton, the strong silent loner, was stalking through the forest himself. It was completely quiet and blended in well with the deciduous foliage, since his pelt was a sort of chocolate color with tan marks along his snout and ankles. He'd stop occasionally to look at a new type of insect or foliage he'd never seen before.
He'd come from a land far, far away, with expansive grassy hills that was the landscape for as far as the eye could see. The pack he'd been born into was very small, with only about ten wolves total, all his blood family. It had no real name and the pack just wandered the hills. Chayton had grown up thinking they must be the only ones of their kind until they had stumbled upon a strange wolf. This had flipped his whole world upside down and he'd listened eagerly as the new wolf had told fascinating stories about the world beyond. Soon enough the wolf had left and Chayton decided he wanted to go as well. He'd bid farewell to his family and struck out on his own to travel the world. He was taken breathless by all the things he saw, from the tiniest rock to the biggest tree, he wanted to see it all.
When he hears a twig crack a few feet from him he has his nose buried deep into a flower. He suddenly jerks his head up and sneezes when he sucks a good bit of pollen into his nose. The sound was as loud as a gunshot in the relatively quiet forest and he froze, hoping it wasn't a bear that had made the twig crack. His nose is still burning from the pollen, so he can't smell who the other person was, so he stood perfectly still and tried to blend in with the bark of a tree.

Growling to herself, the brightly-colored wolf stalked through the forest, clearly agitated. Occasionally she would pause to take an angry swipe at a tree or bush, her fur bristling, muttering beneath her breath.
She paused, partway between two trees, brow furrowed, realizing there was another nearby. "...I can smell you, you know," she said, flicking an ear in the direction of the wolf who was trying to camouflage against the tree. "Not very effective."
If Chayton had been human he would have blushed. He coughed and stepped forward, flattening his ears. "Sorry..." He mumbles, sneezing again onto the ground. The force of the sneeze made him rock backwards. He wasn't much for talking and he looked at the brightly colored female wolf with a small, smile and gave his tail a hesitant wag.

She looked up at him, appraisingly. The bright wolf was rather small in stature, and had to tilt her head back to get a full look at him now that she was so close. She narrowed her bright blue eyes, examining him. At least there were no obvious deformities, no overall aura of strangeness. he was just...a bit shy. Well...she could handle shy. At least he wasn't hitting on her yet. "You allergic to something?" She asked, at his sneeze.
Chayton notes how she looked at him, but only gave her a light look over before focusing on her eyes. She was much to blunt and quiet to blatantly hit on a female wolf, and his pack had strict courtship rules which he followed closely. "Sniffed a flower." He says, waving one paw at the flower he'd been sniffing and then at his slightly yellowed nose. His accent was odd, a bit clipped sounding as if he didn't know how to speak very well. When he did speak though, his voice was very pleasant. It was deep and had a melodic quality to it.

"And here, I thought it was good to stop and smell the flowers," she says, wryly, and then snickered at her little joke.
Sensing no threat from the male, she rolled back onto her haunches, still watching him warily. It was tempting -- exceedingly tempting -- to tear into him just for kicks, but she wouldn't ever actually do it. Kamiya, for all of her occasionally angry tendencies, was not generally a rageful wolf, and preferred fighting well-trained, prepared opponents. It was an honor thing. Or something. "They call me Kamiya," she said, then, and shrugged. "And you're not from around here, are you?"
Chayton copies her movements and sits down as well, a slight smile on his face as he looks into her eyes. It was a point of respect among his Pack to look someone in the eyes, so he kept up with it, though it tended to be unnerving for most wolves. His own startlingly bright green eyes were deep looking but surprisingly innocent as well. He nods slightly and angles his ears forward. "Hello Kamiya. I was given the name Chayton." He offers, his smile flickering a little bigger for a moment before going back to his regular small one. "And no, I do not come from here. i come from far away."

"Thought so. You seem out of place." Her brow furrowed, not looking away from his gaze, as though looking back were her way of proving herself in a challenge. "Not as loud and obnoxious as the others I've met, for one. I'll tell you, if wolves back home were like they are here, they'd have been all sacrificed to the Sea Goddess."
Chayton's eyes widen. "Sea Goddess?" he prods curiously, hoping he could get a story from her. He devoured stories like a starving wolf devoured a rabbit.

"Yeah. In my old pack...well, they worshipped the ocean. Said there was a goddess that lived in the waves, who watched over and protected us. Brought us food, kept us safe." She shrugged, looking a little embarrassed that she'd even brought it up. "That's what they'd say, anyway."
Chayton listens with interest, his eyes noticeably brighter looking as he listens. "Huh. Interesting." He comments, grinning and wagging his tail slightly. He doesn't expand on this further though, but lapses back into silence and mulls over the possibilities of a goddess in the ocean.

"Yeah," she replied. And, because something about him made her eager to continue talking -- perhaps just his general silence, and her recently inability to make any acquaintances that seemed to listen to a word she said -- she went on. "It was something of a shock, actually, realizing that other wolves....don't have that sort of religion. I mean, I always sort of knew, because my mother had told me...but it's weird to see, in practice, y'know?" Well...he probably wouldn't know, but Kami didn't think about that.
"Yes, I do know." He says truthfully. His own pack had had a religion as well, so he knew the feeling. He wouldn't expand on that though unless she asked, since he was just content to sit and listen to her.

Her brows raised in a questioning -- perhaps challenging -- sort of way as she fixed him with her bright-blue stare. "Yeah?" she asked, a bit skeptically.
Chayton wags his tail slightly and leans forward a little, not taking the brow raise as a challenge. "Yes. The pack I come from was very small. We worshiped the wind, because he breathes life into all things." He says with a slight nod, but made o mention that that was what he still believed now, if he believed anything at all.

"Makes about as much sense as anything," she said, with a shrug, mulling over his words. "So...what brings you here, then? Get blown away?" She smirked again, at her joke. She was on a roll tonight, although perhaps no one but her thought she was quite so amusing.
Chayton chuckled softly at her joke, finding it amusing himself. He stretches a little from his laying position and twitches his ears forward. "No, it did not." He says with another chuckle. "I am traveling the world." He says with a slight nod of his head, his eyes lighting up at the though of all the things he'd yet to see.

"Popular pasttime, it seems," she mused, thinking about Kai -- the wayward prince -- and all of the other wolves she had stumbled across so far in her wanderings.
She was liking this brown wolf, she decided. He didn't get all flustered and grumpy when she said what was on her mind, and he didn't wax poetic about things. All in all, he was probably the most normal wolf she'd run into. "And tell me, Chayton. What have you seen in the world? Because me...so far all I've seen is a bunch of trees, and some weirdos."
Chayton's eyes brightened considerably at being asked what he'd seen. He'd carefully cataloged everything he'd seen and loved remembering them. "I saw all sorts of wonderful things. Did you know there is a waterfall not far from here that shines like a rainbow?" He says, smiling at the thought before falling silent again.

"Yeah?" She asked, somewhat interested; Kamiya wasn't necessarily a wolf impressed by pretty sights, but that at east sounded more interesting than anything she had seen. And it was better than that stupid rock formation that Mars had been babbling about. "I've seen rainbows in the water before," she offered, thinking back to the cove at home. "Where the river fed into the ocean, we had a waterfall there, falling down a huge cliff. The sound blocked out everything."
Rock formation. Really.
"What else?" She pressed. She was beginning to get the impression that, far as she'd traveled from home, the world was really very much the same everywhere, and that wandering was a bit overrated. But maybe she just hadn't gone far enough...
Chayton was fascinated by what she'd said, then mentally chastises himself. of course she'd have seen a wonderful thing like a rainbow waterfall before, her people had worshiped the water. He puzzles for a minute, trying to think of something that would interest her. Then he chuckles and refocuses his brilliant green gaze back on her. "To the west of here are wolves who have massive paws. The bigger paws the better. And they pierce bones into their flesh to show off their hunting skills." He says with a nod, thinking this was interesting.

"Now that...that's weird," she said, nose wrinkling. "I've met the weirdest sort of wolves here. I met one that looked like a giant rat." she paused, then, as though thinking, and then looked up again, unable to get over what he'd mentioned. "...bones into their flesh? really?"
"A rat?" Chayton asks with a chuckle, finding that amusing. Too bad for the poor wolf though, since that probably didn't help with finding a mate. "Yes. Some had more bones than fur!" He says and shrugs, not saying this was a bad thing, but merely telling her what he'd observed.

"Gross," she said, nodding her head definitively on the topic. She glanced over her shoulder; Marion was probably wondering where she had run off to, although Kamiya was in no particular rush to get back to her.
"You wandering anywhere in particular?" She wondered aloud, not entirely sure why she was asking, but because it seemed a prudent question.
Chayton smiled at her, recalling the comical amount of piercings the strange wolves had had. Then he flicks his ears curiously forward at the question. "No, not really." He says, wondering why she wanted to know but not asking since he figured she'd tell him anyway.

"Me neither," she said, and didn't look pleased about it. "The whole idea had seemed kind of romantic, you know. Running around, free as a bird to do whatever pleased me, seeing the world. But the more I do it, the more I start to think....I dunno. That it's not really for me."
She stood, then, and paced a little, not sure why she was explaining all this to a stranger. Maybe because she knew he would listen to anything she said. "I used to have a job. In my pack. I was one of the outer guard, a scout. I had a purpose." She paused, and then shrugged. "Granted, that purpose was occasionally stealing pups or females from other packs...but it was still a purpose, you know? All this wandering and sight-seeing...I'm starting to think it's all just kind of....pointless."
Her point apparently made, she looked back at him, piercingly -- and perhaps a little pleadingly. "Do YOU like it?"
Chayton went silent as she poured her frustrations out to him. He'd nod at all the right places and was very attentive. If he was anything he was a good listener.
He was quiet for a few moments when she finished and asked her question. Then he considered, mulling it over. "I suppose I like it. My Pack was very, very small and secluded. I had known nothing of the outside world, but now I know so much. I found out the world is very big with many things in it. It excites me." He says with a shrug and gentle smile.

"I think there's something wrong with me," she said, halting her pacing, and sighing heavily. "Everybody keeps talking about the beauty of the world and I just...I don't see it." She lowered herself to her haunches, and scratched an ear contemplatively. "I don't understand how I became so....jaded?"
then she laughed, and shook her head. "Ah well. Not the sort of thing you could answer, I guess. Sorry," she added, stopping her scratching -- and for Kamiya to apologize for anything was a fairly rare event. "You've probably got better things to do than listen to a stranger rant."
The large chocolate colored wolf tilted his head to the side curiously. "Everyone likes different things." He says with a shrug. "None of my siblings wanted to come with me to travel. They liked the small pack." He said in a comforting sort of way. He didn't know if that would make the brightly colored female feel better, but he didn't want her sad either. "And no, not really. I like listening to others talk." He says with a chuckle, referring to her last remark.
