Is anyone a fan of this series, or familiar with it? I'm kind of hoping to make my way through it, and started the first book (Dragonflight) yesterday. I've tried to read it before, but never finished. I did, however, read the prequel Dragonsdawn years ago and loved it.

Well, I finished Dragonflight. Not bad, but I honestly didn't think it was that well written. Not awful, but I thought the plot seemed shallow and contrived in places.
As for the prequel...yep, Dragonsdawn was written sometime in the 1980s, and details the first landing and colonization of Pern, and the first encounter with the Threads that leads to the breeding of the dragons.

Ah, well, it's a hard life. I have my "to be read" list logged on paperbackswap.com, and it's at 563 books.

I've read a bit of her stuff, including the first three books and, if I remember correctly, the prequel. They're good, but they get very confusing after a time. It doesn't help that my library never has the full series of anything, much less one that's as extensive as hers.

I need to get a hold of Dragonsdawn. I've read Dragonflight, Dragonquest, and The White Dragon plus the little mini side trilogy with Menolly: Dragonsong, [1]Dragonsinger[/1], and Dragondrums that are at the same time as the three main books. I love Pern because it's dragons and because, unlike any other books, I can set it aside, pick it up later and jump right back into it with minimal confusion due to not remembering what's going on. I hope to read all the Pern books, if I could ever get the earlier ones...
