The town of Aekea despite it's untamed and unruly look, indeed has a governmental system. When the town was originally opened, it was not intended for living bodies to stay there on a permanent basis. But as the years passed, more Gaians had decided to live among the machines and smog, side by side their robotic co-workers. Minimal government was established to keep the peace, but it couldn't prevent the inevitable. After the Robot Rebellion, those of Aekea demanded that there be more government within the town walls. And the Aekea Guard was formed, mirrored after their neighbor town's own military force.

After much heated debate and deep contemplations, it was decided that Aekea would become a Republic. Under this term, the people would be given representative democracy in which Aekeans had elected officials to represent the people.

In this thread, these officials will be listed along with their responsibilities, picture and brief profile.

Mayor

Unlike other governments in which Mayors are present, Aekea's elected official is more of a facade than anything. Their mayor actually has little to no political power and is more of a figure head, a physical embodiment of the people and all they encompass. His/Her responsibility as Mayor is to be constantly up to date with the activity of the town; this ranges from politicial to social to economical activity. They are a well of information and are in charge of bestowing the information to those that request it. This tends to happen at Town Meetings between the 4 major towns of Gaia. While the Mayor is but a scarecrow, their purpose in the town is great and irreplaceable.

The Mayor has meetings with the Representatives and the Head of the Guard once a week to discuss new issues. He/She is given a list of information to learn, and talks to the others in order to get a proper handle on any and all situations.

Term in office is 2 years, but they are eligible for re-election for an infinite amount of terms, should the people of Aekea vote it to be so.

Town Hall

From the outside, the Town Hall looks just like any normal building. Nestled underneath the massive and retired crane that overlooks the town alongside the Guard Headquarters, it is a rather humble space in the industrial town. However, stepping into it, you can tell that the peaceful look of the building is merely a front.

Converted from a large work room, the main area of the Town Hall is filled with people. While there is about half a dozen secretaries of all shapes and sizes working non-stop amidst the paperwork, there are no cubicles. It is a nice open work space, although not exactly the more organized. The walls are covered in pictures of old political figures, the current ones, framed photographs of loved ones, blueprints and old receipts.

If anyone thought that the great minds of Aekea could do without something technological inside the Town Hall, they had never met an Aekean before.

User Image

Name: Aekea Municipal Archives Interface System (AMAIS)

AMAIS (typically pronounced "amaze" by Town Hall employees) is the public interface for the computer database housed there – a glorified Guest Directory. AMAIS is restricted to the Town Hall complex. It's an early-generation AI and doesn't have the emotional complexity later systems of its kind tend to possess; it is, however, polite if not terribly conversational and quick to assist when asked. It switches from one displayed gender to the other for no apparent reason and without explanation, and attentive observers can see a second "face" behind its "eyes", often only visible when the hologram turns.

AMAIS dislikes unauthorized access and will retaliate with whatever force it deems necessary for its protection. Tamper at your own risk.

User Image

Name: Ainsley
Occupation: Receptionist
Age: Between 300 and 500
Height: 1.5m (with heels)

Rumors swirl around this pretty little office girl. Word is that she's scoping out the situation in Aekea and whether or not it's ready for the Kuro Gang to move in – and landing them some contacts in Aekean government to get things started – but no-one can actually prove a thing. She's a member of multiple, conflicting activist mailing lists under various aliases; she finds the whole thing trendy and doesn't really care who does what to whom, organic or mechanical.

If asked why she moved to Aekea, she always says she just likes the atmosphere. She claims to be happily married and is at the same time a shameless flirt, teasing and leading on guys as often as she can get away with it. She has also given different ages for herself at various times, making it impossible to know what's true. She insists that a lady never tells.

User Image

Name: Brenda
Position: Secretary
Height: Six feet, five inches

Brenda is a newer secretary, and clumsy. She's often dropping things, breaking things, and finding places she wasn't suppose to be. At a young age, she lost her right arm, and secretly sympathizes with the Mechanical Children. She hopes one day to be a centaur representative.

Judges

The judges of Aekea are a hardworking group of individuals. In the system that Aekea has, most domestic issues are dealt with by the Representatives. Problems that cannot be dealt with through them are then put through the system. Because of this, the trials that the judges see are not always pretty and tend to be rather difficult. And by no means do the judges get the credit that they deserve. The court consists of the judge and the jury, which is randomly chosen Aekean citizens of all races.

Not all of them are gold-hearted. Not all of them have the best intentions. Some put their personal biases into verdicts, others throw out cases or pass them off if they are not in the mood to deal with them. Some are corrupt. But many of them live day by day knowing that they have delivered justice as fairly and just as possible.

Name: Phinnaeus Jackson
Age: 64
Height: Six feet five inches

Whoever said that justice was blind never met Phinnaeus. After the original Rebellion of the Robots, Phinnaeus was blinded by mechanical shrapnel. Despite the technology there was nothing they could do to save his eyes. But they could replace them with enhanced prosthetics. He refused out of pure denial and hatred.

Instead he learned to deal with his blindness and, using the same phrase posted above, decided to become an attorney. Twenty years later he was elected as a judge in the Aekea courts. It had been some time since he had been blinded and after representing dozens of robotic citizens the grudge had lessened. From then he decided to get himself a pair of new eyes.

With them, he can tell if someone is lying by registering heart rate and body language. He can see through objects (and the occasional outfit. He's an old man, they do that) and take photographs with just a blink.

His compassion for justice has only grown over his 10 years as an Aekean judge. While he himself is no longer blind, he is indeed blind to prejudice and refuses to have it be part of his courtroom.

Stalwart Higginson
Age: 80

Ironically contrast to his name, He isn't very well off, as his condition is rapidly decreasing day by day. He was a sickly child to begin with, but around his teens, he appeared to do fine.

Now a days, he occupies a position as a civil judge, taking on small cases that don't require alot of effort, or too much thought. If given a big case, He tends to go for the one with the best argument, just to end things quickly, often leading to bad verdicts, or managing to pass it to another judge.

Not only has his work load increased, but he has been taking tougher cases, and his constant illnesses don't really help anything.

Name: Maggie Forge
Age: 35

The youngest practicing Aekean Judge, her opinions are often ignored when analyzing court cases. Her casual attitude towards the court doesn't do her any favors. She's known to be indecisive, and like robots and their kind - that is, until one snaps, at which she becomes paranoid and defensive of the good of Aekea. She genuinely has her eye out for her community though, and wants nothing more than to serve them to the best of her abilities.

Name: Maxine Fey
Age: 264
Height: 5 feet 9 inches

Maxine Fey is one of the more dedicated judges, and has shown signs of being unbribable. However, she is publicly opposed to robot rights. However, her political leanings seem to unaffect her court discussions, as she always tries not to stray from the letter of the law. Lesser known is her frequent visits to Isle de Gambino, what her exact connections to the Night Elf Mafia are, her love of hard rock, many elements of her personal life, and the fact she was a former gold-ranked MAGIC agent, who quit to take up public law. She also has an odd phobia of marshmallows.

Representatives

There are a select few that represent the people of Aekea. While they are few in number they are great in strength. Each of them has a heavy dose of responsibility upon their shoulders to make sure that all those in which they work for (never forget, they work for the people, not the other way around) are treated as fair and equal as possible. Some may consider the Representatives the heads of a Union of sorts, but they do more than that. They know every single person they take care of by name. They do their best to help those in need, even if it's not an equality issue. They are invited to family parties such as weddings and birthdays. Representatives are people who go above and beyond what the job requires them to do.

A Representative does what is good for their people. But not at any cost, by no means. All those who have been elected work together to make Aekea safe for all races. While they were elected to take care of a select group of people, they also must take Aekea as a whole into every single consideration they have. Because of this great responsibility and intimacy with the public, Representatives are elected for life. The only terms in which they are released from their responsibilities is if their people pass a majority vote, if they retire, if the other Representatives find conclusive evidence to corruption or slacking of duties, or death. If they are to step down by their own free will then they must find a replacement before they do so.

Name: Emily Stewart
Occupation: Human Representative
Age: 31
Height: 5 feet flat

Ms. Stewart used to have her own Zeppelin named The Russet Enterprise. After an unfortunate incident with Cresento she was forced to crash land within Aekea's walls. The accident made her realize that her pride was not worth her life, and she retired her zeppelin for good.

She had spent her entire life in the air, literally. Born and raised on zeppelins she rarely touched the ground. But now that she was permanently landed, she started to get to know about people. Her own race, humans, were fascinating to her. They created living creatures out of the very same material she had lived in for her entire life.

It wasn't until then that she realized how amazing humans could be. And Emily wanted to protect the fascinating minds as much as she could. When she turned 29 she was appointed the Representative for the Human Race. While humans can be discriminating and cruel, so could the other races in Aekea. And she had to make sure both humans and the other races didn't get out of hand with each other.

Name: Araka Erilgh
Age: 34
Occupation: Orc Representative
Height: 7'3"

And you thought orcs were only tough in the area. Araka can pound her political opponents into the figurative ground if she needs to. She could hold her ground in a heated debate like a rock.

Before her political career, Araka was the defending heavy-weight champion for twelve years before retiring. She wears her black grizzly belt as a trophy and as a warning sign that she's not afraid to get her hands dirty again.

Name: Kingsley "King" Rickaby
Age: He says 22. Probably close enough.
Occupation: Agent for "Mythical Art Gaian Investigation Corps."
Race: Elf

Bio: King is an odd case within the government. He's not really a representative as much as a societal convenience. He acts as the go between for the mythical races with communities too small to be able to warrant a representative for themselves. Since MAGIC agents are suppose to protect such people, as well as keep them in line, the task was dumped on the only agent currently in town*.

King was born to a Durem Elf slave, and was raised with a strong sense of justice, subtle nobility, and adventurer's spirit. Since the Elf Culture protection laws state no Elf is born into slavery, King was able to live a free Elf, and enrolled in the MAGIC Acadamy, and he swiftly shot up to Silver level. He requested a transfer to Aekea for personally reasons, and set up a bookstore.

He has no publicly known biases. However, King can't help but view robots as things thus nonpersons. Androids with organics brain aren't view this way by him though. Further, He doesn't believe in Aliens, and will claim Zurgs are just a hoax.

*NOTE: He not adverse to other MAGIC agents being around.

User Image

Name: PQ Gadsby
Age: 25
Occupation: Mechanical Children Representative
Height: 5'10''

A young and determined cyborg, PQ established the official political rights group of mechanical kind. After a tragic accident she lost most of her human body, only to turn her crudely constructed body to Aekea Academy a few months after personal issues. Some time later, she became one of the most technologicaly advanced cyborgs in all of Aekea, and used it to her advantage. The Mechanical Children had started off as a small rebellion force, but turned into an equal rights movement.

She is the first of the Mechanical Children Representative, and it hasn't been easy so far. Being young and inexperienced as a politician has given her a few bumps in the road. But her passion and dedication have picked her up where her experience has failed.

The Guard

The Guard has always made sure to be clear that they are not an army. In the minds of those what keep the Guard up and running, they are not there to wage war on Gaians of any sort. Their job is to maintain the security of Aekea and provide law enforcement should it be necessary. Should there be a murderer on the loose, it is their job to find them. If Animated attack the town, it is their job to defend it; if anything attacks Aekea they defend it, for that matter. But they are not paid nor trained to leave the city and take someone else's life. They are sworn to protect and defend, not to attack and destroy.

Enlisted is a healthy mix of races that involve themselves within the Guard. While the majority of them are indeed human, there are many robotic, vampires and even centaurs within the Guard. Despite the race issue in Aekea, there is rarely a dispute within the Guard. All of them are there for the same reason, and have put their differences aside in order to do so. Those who break from this ideal are immediately discharged.

There are two sections of the Guard; the Guard itself and then the SWAT force. Not much is known about SWAT save for the fact that they only get involved in very important and/or dangerous missions that are too much for the Guard to handle. These special forces officers receive extended combat training and are not shy to use it when necessarily. The majority of SWAT are vampires, known for their super speed, strength, and other devious supernatural abilities that prove useful.

User Image User Image
Name: Hayley Ford
Occupation: Captain of the Aekean Guard
Height: 5'6"

Hayley was the cream of Barton's crop, raised from birth to enter the ranks of the Regulars. Having maintained a special forces post there alongside her father, she was inevitably removed from service due to injury in the line of work in which she lost her left eye and almost her life. Seeking out a solution to her unemployment, she came to Aekea, who welcomed her with open arms and fixed her up with a prosthetic eye to replace what she'd lost. The Barton force was willing to review her renewed application, but Aekea seemed to have bigger plans. What was Barton's loss was Aekea's gain, and the Mayor handed her the keys to the out of date and disabused Guard HQ.

Generally serious, restrained and composed, she found life in the insanity of the big city hard to swallow at first, but with a little help from some friends and a certain weretiger, she eventually settled into her new role just fine. She revamped the guard system and the city's defenses to better prepare it against invasion but was cut short rather early once OMNIDRINK sunk its hooks into the city.

She's a reluctant werewolf with a knack for self-control she learned from her father and the other Barton team growing up. She's been honing her skills and mastering control of her body ever since she found out what was realy going on. She tries to be generally friendly, but can often be unintentionally tactless, crude, off-putting or just plain awkward in most social situations. She's built wide and strong, with nothing petite about her. She's still pretty defensive about the lycanthropy.

User Image

Name: Brigham Dahl
Occupation: Aekean Guard Public Relations
Age: 2
Height: 1.8m

Brigham is an android, built mostly as a public relations exercise to appease vocal groups of mechanical rights activists who decried the way they believed mechanical members of the Guard were used solely as shocktroopers and cannon fodder. He spends little to no time with other mechanical children; having been "raised" around less tolerant members of the Guard and the government, he actually hates robots, androids, and cyborgs. He's in denial about his own status, often telling others he's human. He wears gloves all the time to hide the delicate and plainly artificial joints of his hands.

User Image

Name: Jethro Beryl
Occupation: Captain of Aekea's SWAT
Height: 5'8"

Jethro has been in law enforcement for seven years. He transferred over from the Durem Guards into Aekea's during the move to give the new town some stability. He quickly found out that handling Aekean criminals were more than dangerous first week on the job. He lost his eye during a skirmish with a rogue factory bot who's programming glitched out. Jethro was given a cybernetic optic to replace his lost one during recovery.

He set out to revamp the tactics of Aekea's guard in handling crime in Aekea compared to other towns. The old procedure would kill most guards if there was ever a riot. After changing the protocol, he created Aekea's SWAT team in case the worst situation happened.

He operates to have the smoothest operation as possible. The less lives harmed, the better. The last thing he needs is a massacre on his hands during a mission.

Personally, he has no bias towards any race. He sees everyone as the same aside from those with criminal backgrounds or are criminals themselves. Jethro is not afraid to challenge higher powers if it means protecting the innocent. This makes him at odds with politicians most of the time.

User Image

The basic model for mechanized guard, usually without AI. They usually only deal with traffic issues and minor misdemeanors, saving real complications for the intelligent members of the guard. However, some are specially programmed to be able to handle the situations that would be too dangerous for either humans or specialized robots/androids.
