i'm walking and talk to sandslash because he found an item. it says "this item is just too important to give up!" and he won't give it to me...what gives?

you cant just keep taking away everything you pokemon finds
you have to consider their feelings about the matter
it's alright to let them keep one every now and then smile

Its sometimes also that the pokemon doesnt fully trust you with the item.
At the beginning of trainer, pokemon relationships the pokemon is not gonna want to give you an item, on those first times, you should just let em keep the item, that will make em happy and then afterwards everytime they got an item, they will happily handed it to you.

He was happy to give it to me a few minutes later...maybe he was being stubborn, because he's given me items before. Then again, I'd taken several items from him right before that, so maybe he just wanted to hold one for a bit...

YAY ! I got a Sandslash too, I love him man. He is my favorit pokemon. Mine gives me iteams all the time also . However, I have had your problem . don't know why jsut every once in a while.
