Edo: a place of great business, always flourishing with life, the new capital of Nihon, peaceful yet up-beat, and calm as well as fast-paced. . .All of this is protected and maintained under the watchful eye of the Shogun. Even though it seems calm enough, many people watch themselves for fear that they will become his new objected target. A group that merely call themselves "the Yami" have scared the Shogun for some time now. He once went to a lady shaman to see what his future would hold for him. The woman had a premonition that he would be killed by shadows of a single name who will not be united, but still stand as one: the cold, cruel Yami. From that point on, anyone who was of great skill and power had a bounty placed on their head for fear that they may be members of the infamous Yami...

It was mid-afternoon when a duo of travelers passed through the gates into the East Section of Edo. They were both wearing cloaks, both about the same height, as well. The main difference between the two was that one clearly had a katana under his cloak and the other was seemingly unarmed. The unarmed one also kept a couple steps behind his companion, as though following his lead.

When the pair reached an inn, the one in the lead lowered his hood to reveal a head of violet hair. His eyes matched the color of his hair almost exactly, and he glanced around the lobby of the inn, clearly looking for someone or something. As he looked, his cloaked companion stayed silent and still, his hood remaining in place.

The violet-haired man seemed to find what he was looking for, and he immediately made his way to a table near the back of the room. A brown-haired and green-eyed man was sitting there, his legs stretched out casually under the table so his feet were resting on the chair across from him. He didn't move them when the two approached him.

"This seems like a decent place for us to stay," the sitting man stated, looking up at the other two. "I've gotten a couple extra rooms. Told the owner some friends of mine were going to be joining me for a few days. Glad to see that you arrived, Mikage-san. Shigai-san."

"Wakastuki-san, what have I told you about mentioning my name?" Kurei Mikage remarked, taking a seat at the table. Certainly not at the chair that was occupied by Takumi's feet. "Where are the rooms? Has anyone else arrived in the city that you know of?"

Takumi Wakastuki shook his head. "Not that I've seen. The rooms are upstairs. End of the hall. Adjoining, no less. I spared no expense to make sure we'd have what we needed. You owe me quite a lot."

"I'm certain you'll make up for it within a day or two," Kurei said, raising an eyebrow at Takumi. Considering how much time Takumi spent pickpocketing passersby, he was sure the thief would have gotten back his money very soon. He wasn't going to pay Takumi a single coin. "Keys?"

"Here." The thief tossed a key to Kurei. "I figured you'd want the one at the end." Kurei nodded before making his way upstairs, the cloaked Shigai following behind him.

Kai Takamura was in his study, a common place for him to stay since he had become the Shogun of Edo. He sighed and sat down in a chair. There was a knock at the door and he had his hand on the hilt of his blade should it have been a potential enemy. Ever since the shaman had told him his destiny, paranoia, while it remained small for now, had still implanted itself into his mind.

He walked over, holding his hilt in his hand still and opened the door, looking to see two women there. His right hand Himora Nanzo, and his younger sister by name only Kiriei Takamura. He sighed and said "What is it you two?"

Himora was about to speak when Kiriei interrupted and said "I jsut wanted to see how my big brother was doing!" and she hugged him tight, which annoyed him a little but he was able to remain calm.

He looked to Himora and she spoke, saying "It's about an assassin. We found this young boy here trying to sneak in to assassinate you sire. Shall I deal with it?"

Kai shook his head and walked to the holding area. He saw the boy, no older than 13, and sighed, saying "It's a pity that youth has to be cut short lke this." and without a single hesitation, he drew his blade and cut the boy so uickly the only thing seen during the slash was the reflection of light of the blade.

The boy's head flew off and he cleaned his blade of the blood and then returned to his study, closing and locking the door shut. he didn't want anymore interruptions.

About the same time as the shogun took a seat at his desk again, someone else entered the room. Albeit this newcomer was invisible to the shogun at the moment, held within the light in the room. He drifted through the room, settling down on the desk before reforming into his solid human form, lounging on the surface of the desk as he did.

Ryoku Mikage was wearing his usual white attire, looking somewhat bored as he observed the shogun with his brilliant golden eyes. Despite the boredom, he seemed to be in a decent enough mood. Which was fortunate, because he was prone to rather dark periods.

"Your efficiency when it comes to dealing with potential threats is quite inspiring, my lord," he remarked, still practically laying across the desk. "I can only imagine how much damage a child like that could have done." Sarcasm? Oh yes. Ryoku might be ruthless in his own regard, but he wasn't the type to kill a child.

Kai got up angrily and cut the desk in half, taking care to not hit the man laying on it, but let him fall with it as the two pieces split and collapsed. He walked away and re-sheathed his blade, sighing softly to himself, keeping himself from attacking the man.

He sighed and said "Mikage, don't you dare enter my offiec without me giving you permission, and don't ever criticize my methods. All threats will be elimnated, pure and simple. Whether it's a child, woman, family, friend, foe, or innocent person, should they have the desire to kill me, they shall end up without their head or attatched to a post as an example. It may be wrong, but it must be done!"

He slammed his fist into teh wall and even though it was made of stone, there were several cracks and a small crater left from his bare fist, including his own blood ontop of that. He sighed and clamed down after that.

He turned to Ryoku and said "What is it Mikage, or did you just come to speak about the child? If that is all you wanted, then you can just leave. It's not like I felt good about it." He didn't feel good, and a linger of regret, but he felt it was necessary to keep things as they were.

Ryoku's eyes widened in surprise when the shogun cut through the desk, causing the pretty blonde-haired man to fall to the floor with the pieces of the desk. He was back on his feet in mere moments though, seeming unbothered by the little tumble.

"My lord, allow me to apologize," he said, giving the man a small bow after the shogun seemed to calm down a bit. "I did not mean to criticize your methods..." Oh yes he did, but the shogun didn't need to know that.

He glanced down at the man's bleeding hand with some concern before moving forward with a few smooth, graceful steps so he could take hold of the man's hand. At Ryoku's direction, the man's hand began to vanish into the light little by little, instead appearing to be a yellowish glow. It was painless, but it would feel warm to the shogun. Ryoku put the man's hand back the way it was supposed to be a moment later, healed and good as new.

"Have I made it up to you?" he inquired, patting the shogun's healed hand lightly before releasing it. Such healing tricks were second nature to Ryoku by this point. That irritating light spirit within him had made sure of that.

Kai sighed and said "Bullshit, I can tell when someone is lying." He gave him a glare and then sighed when Ryoku held his hand and used his magic. When it cmae to these things, he'd come to just accept it when Ryoku did it and said "Thank you."

When he asled if he made it up to him, the shogun nodded and said "Alright, if you're done here, please leave. I'm just trying to relax. Day after day I hear more about this "Yami group." It's beginning to get to me." He closed his eyes and leaned his head against a window, relaxing a little. He eventually turned back to Ryoku.

After a minute, he said "So, is there anything improtant I should know about, because if not then I think we're done here." He waited for Ryoku's answer, giving the man a stern look that had become common for him to use as close to a smiling face as he'd get infront of anyone that wasn't a lover or family.

"I have nothing to report about them, I am afraid," Ryoku stated with a shrug, leaning casually against the wall by the window. Very close to the shogun, in fact. Hinting, much? Oh yes. "I will certainly have my eyes and ears open. I would do anything to protect you, my lord..." He gave the man an almost coy smile.

He had nothing to report about the Yami mostly because he didn't care about all that much about that group. They were trying to kill the shogun, yes, but he saw no reason to chase them down. Let them get into Edo. Let them start making their moves. Then when they think they have things under control, show them what fools they all are and destroy them. He was more interested in their leader. Rumor had it that their leader was one with the darkness. That sounded an awful lot like a certain Mikage to Ryoku. That certain Mikage that he had still to dispose of. He had managed to have Kurei's sister murdered by the shogun's soldiers. The brother... Well, it was only a matter of time before Ryoku saw to his termination.

Kai nodded and said "Alright then, leave." His tone was very serious and he noticed the look that Ryoku had and sighed, grabbing his hand, leading him to the door. He opened it, pushed him out, locked the door, and then closed the blinds in the room so it was dark. He knew Ryoku's weakness and he always enjoyed the dark anyways.

He sat in his chair and losed his eyes, relaxing as he began to already think of many different strategies to deal with intruders and such. He knew that Yami would come eventually, so he;d been planning several strategies, and moved his office to teh ground floor, near the front entrance. Something unexpected, he';d easily be able to escape and eal witha ny intruders coming head on at the same time.

Ryoku was not pleased when the shogun quite literally shoved him out the door. As soon as the door was closed, he vanished into the light and slipped back into the shogun's office. Though when the shogun went over to the window to shut out the light, Ryoku very nearly got caught in the dark. And in the worst way possible. He'd experienced what it was like to be in the light when suddenly there was no light to be in. It was a horrible experience. One of the most painful things he'd ever felt, and that pain lingered for a while.

Thankfully, he'd managed to reform just before the light was shut out. Though now he was in the dark and feeling none-too-comfortable with it. Firstly, he couldn't see. Secondly, he was in pain.

He tried to keep himself calm as he felt for the door. The sooner he could get out of that room, the better. Hopefully the shogun hadn't noticed he was there. There were many things that Ryoku disliked greatly, and one of those happened to be being caught in a vulnerable position. Like this one.

The shogun noticed that Ryoku had come abck into the room and decided tot ake advantage of teh situation, so he casually walked over, being able to find Ryoku would be no problem since he memorized where the door was and he guessed Ryoku would looking for the door. He had a big, devious grin on his face as he kept walking, remaining silent.

When he found Ryoku, he grabbed both of his shoulders and pulled Ryoku against him, saying in a dark tone Didn't I tell you to leave. Looks like you'll have to be punished for disobeying me.

His hands went from Ryoku's shoulders to his wiast and the shogun breathed against the back of his neck in a teasing way, pulling him farther back, and then opened the windows for him, sitting down and letting Ryoku fall to teh ground since he'd been supporting his weight. HE chuckled and said "Next time, I will do something if you disobey me, but for now I'll let that slide and I'll let you stay here."

Ryoku was taken by surprise when the shogun held him against him and wrapped his arms around his waist. He hadn't expected such a reaction, and it honestly scared him a bit. Excited him a bit too, but he wasn't about to admit that. He only acted like he was attracted to the shogun in an attempt to get some control over the man. Signs that the shogun might be attracted to him always shocked Ryoku quite a bit. Though his own enjoyment of the man's attention made him quite concerned that he might actually be falling for the man. It certainly wasn't what he intended.

He was relieved when the shogun let some light back into the room. Obviously the man knew of Ryoku's main weakness, but he often wondered if the shogun was aware of the extent of his weakness. How the darkness could kill Ryoku in a matter of hours? Probably not.

"How very merciful of you, my lord," he remarked, a hint of confusion in his voice. He really hadn't expected that kind of a reaction from the man. It was tempting to close some of the distance between them, but he opted to stay sitting on the floor for now. Though his clothes would likely get a little dirty from it. Oh well. Sacrifices must be made sometimes. He knew that better than most.

He looked down at his hands for a moment before pressing his palms together. A bit of light gathered between his palms, warming them slightly before he opened them, revealing an intricate butterfly made of light. The butterfly seemed to test its beautifully shining wings before taking flight, circling around the room while Ryoku watched it in silence.

Letting out a sigh, Inari continued her patrol as normal. The day had proved to be boring. In fact, it was so much so that it was annoying. She almost wished that the enemy was stupid enough to just wander or carelessly be caught trying to spy on them or find a weak spot. Her hopes, however, she knew were unlikely. She tilted her head up towards the sky, at least it was good weather today. The sun was shining down on her face as she smiled slightly before she picked up her pace. From the looks of where the sun had hung, it would only be a little while longer till she would be able to see her brother. She missed him terribly when she had to work, and she knew he did as well. She had gotten in trouble countless times becuase, somehow, her little brother had found a way in, sneaking past the guards and would wander around unnoticed until he found her. That fact scared her. If an untrained little boy could break through their security, who was it that was sleeping on the job. She shook her head, throwing the thought out on the breeze before she sighed slightly.

Milan hummed as she sauntered out of an alleyway. She wiped the blood and grime clean from her hands on the Yukata of one of the soldiers that was left dead behind her. She was very good at playing innocent when soldiers turned up dead, but it didn't prove much of a shock. This was a district of thieves and prostitutes, only the bold or incredibly stupid ventured into the alleyways with such pretty armor. It wasn't a wonder that guards would turn up dead, however everyone who would see her handiwork would think it to be the work of a madman. They would never have suspected a woman would even dare dream of bodies so twisted and mutilated, not even in their darkest of nightmares. She laughed slightly at how naive people were and how she could always seduce a couple guards to following her down to the alleys and slowly pick them off, ridding the world a few more shogunate dogs.

Letting out a small sigh, Lynn walked out of the walls of the palace and into the garden. It was beautiful out there. She knew she wasn't supposed to be outside much, but seeing how the shogun was in his office with others, there was no harm done by it. She walked through the gardens until she came upon the zen garden. She found it one of the more beautiful of the gardens. She then stepped on the cool rocks, being careful not to disturb the sand. Once she found a bonzai tree, she sat down, watching the clouds pass over the sky.

Kai watched the butterfly move a little before catching it in his hands and opening the window, letting it fly out if it had the desire to, not sure if it had it's own wants or was merely under Ryoku's control. He shrugged the thought away and continued to look outside, sighing to himself. He was on edge ever since he heard of his future, and he wanted to eliminate that threat permanently.

He sighed and sat down once more, saying "I can't keep going like this. If I do, then I might just go insane from the fear of it all. Hopefully I can end this soon by killing the b*****d that leads "Yami." With him dead, they'd never be able to continue their plot.

Himora knocked on the door and Kai opened it, letting her in. She was just doing her rotuine checks for any possible openings in the office and found none, then she noticed the cut desk and sighed, saying "Shall I get another desk for you sir?"

Kai nodded and said "Something sturdy enough to withstand a few blows from a nodachi, alright Himora?" Himora nodded and left to go and place the order to a craftsmen to make a new desk for him.

It was a fluke of chance that brought Mafuyu Amakuro to the red light district of Edo. The northern area of the city was usually avoided by anyone who had a more reputable place to be, but the sellsword was looking to spend a bit of cash. Not on anything too bad, obviously. He wasn't going to be buying a prostitute. Perhaps he'd just see a show.

Either way, as he thought about how he was going to spend his money on, he passed right by Milan. He nodded to her kindly as he passed her by, though he did give a her a little wink as he passed. She was quite the attractive one.
