Helaku was on a mission today. Every time he caught sight of Tauron, he seemed to be by Nita's side. Every time he was by Nita's side, he seemed to be grumpy. With Tauron in a constant state of grumpy, Helaku found it hard to tell whether or not the hare approved of him. While the deed was done and he was mated (to the happiest, bubbliest lioness to light up his life), he still wanted to find Tauron sans Nita to talk.
"Tauron?" It had to be possible, right?

It wasn't that Tauron was always grumpy, it was just that... Well okay, he was grumpy, but it was only because Nita was driving him to an early grave. She was so innocent, so easily distracted, and so DRAWN TO TROUBLE! Grumpy though he may have seemed, the hare cared deeply for the friend he had known since that day she had found him as a cub, he couldn't have lived with himself if anything had happened to her.
As for Helaku, well Tauron couldn't have objected to him even if he'd wanted to. Helaku made Nita happy, happier than Tauron had ever seen her, and that in turn made Tauron happy, even if he didn't always show it.
It was perhaps unusual for Tauron to not be at Nita's side, it seemed he had always been there since she was a cub. However recently it had become increasingly likely to find him a short distance away, after all he knew what it was like to be in love, the two lions needed their privacy now and then.
He smiled at the thought of how happy the pair seemed together. Ah, his little Nita was all grown up.
"What is it?"
His head turned, tossing a gaze up at the gray lion.

Helaku paused. As mature as he could sometimes seem, he was young, and this was uncharted territory. Tauron was Nita's best friend, and Helaku wanted his approval. As his first meeting with Nita had proven, small animals could be...creative in expressing dislike. Those teeth could be as sharp as any lion's! Not that he thought Tauron would bite. But things could undoubtedly get unpleasant if he somehow made an enemy.
After a moment's thought he settled down on the ground, reclining so that he was more or less on a similar level to the hare. "I was wondering...if we could talk?"

Talk? Tauron eyed the lion curiously, one large hind paw raised to scratch behind his ear. What on earth did he want to talk about? Oh very well, if he must. (Not that Helaku really needed to ask if they could talk, it wasn't like Tauron was going to bite him).
"What about?"
He hoped this wasn't one of those incredibly cliche man-to-man talks. He was going to box Helaku's ears if it was.
On his paws, the hare hopped a few steps closer to the lion, close enough to speak comfortably. And with Nita asleep back at the den (she seemed to be doing more of that lately), well it was just the two of them.
So what's on your mind?

Sadly, Helaku's ears were about to be boxed, for indeed he had one of those cliche man-to-man talks in mind. As he had no inkling of Tauron's plan, he simply forged ahead with his own.
"I want to know what you think of me," he stated, striped tail flicking idly--at odds with his serious tone and expression. "You haven't outright objected, but you don't seem cheerful either...but since you've been so quiet, I thought it would be best to ask instead of assuming."

The entire clan may have heard the groan. Oh god, it was going to be one of those talks wasn't it? Someone just eat me now...
He supposed it was a legitimate question, even if it was completely unnecessary and cliche. If he had objected to Helaku there would have been no doubt left in the lion's mind, and even if he had why should it matter? Helaku was in it for his love of Awinita, not for the love of a grumpy old rabbit.
A paw raised, thwack! As Helaku's ears were out of reach, he'd have to settle for boxing whatever he could reach.
"That's a stupid question. You love Nita don't you? And she loves you. With you, she is happy, I could never object to that."
He was sitting on his haunches, forepaws crossed over his chest.
"And you're not out to eat me, you're okay."
It's about as close as he was going to get to an answer. Sure Tauron liked the lion well enough, but he wasn't going to tell him that now! Hmph, what a stupid question.

"Ow! What was that for?"
A paw raised to his chest, Helaku mock-glared at Tauron. The seemingly random thwack (no really, what WAS it for?) hadn't actually hurt, but a little bit of playful dramatics never hurt anyone. And it was surprising. And random.
Oh, right, stupid question. That might be a good reason...but Tauron would have a better one as soon as he heard what else Helaku had to say.
"Speaking of Nita...have you noticed anything different about her lately?"

"Don't be such a baby."
Tauron rolled his eyes at the lion. Gimme a break, as if he'd really hit him that hard, and even if he'd wanted to...well what could a hare really do against a lion? Oi, what a fuzzy goofball, he and Nita were truly perfect together, pair of nuts the both of them.
But the question made him pause, a quizzical expression as he eyed the lion. What on earth did he mean by that?
"Different how?"
Apart from her sleeping more lately than normal he hadn't noticed much. She was still the ever happy, bubbly, totally clueless girl intent on turning him entirely gray that he had known since she was a cub.
"Why do you ask?"

Helaku didn't answer for a few minutes, furrowing his brow as he frowned thoughtfully. Tauron hadn't noticed...Nita definitely hadn't noticed...that would make this news a little more awkward to break. He got up and paced a few steps, and then retraced those steps back to where he'd started, the end of his tail twitching back and forth with each step.
"Liiiiike..." Spit it out, Helaku, before Tauron smacks you again. "Like pregnant different." He took a quick breath before continuing. "Nita's expecting."

Tauron might have thwaped him again, that is if his jaw hadn't just hit the ground.
What?!
Had Helaku just said what he thought he said? Really? REALLY?! Was he really serious? Seriously? Nita was...pregnant? Wait, THERE WERE GOING TO BE MORE OF THEM?! More fluffballs just like Nita and Helaku running around? Oh dear god...
"Are you sure?"
Maybe she'd been more tired lately, but that didn't mean... If she was pregnant wouldn't she have gained... Hmph! Well he wasn't in the habit of staring at lions' bellies!
Oh dear god, cubs...help me.

"Certain as knowing the sun will rise," Helaku replied, confirming Tauron's fear that he was indeed serious and not trying to have a good laugh at the hare's expense. Helaku, on the other hand, was both nervous and excited--excited at the prospect of more family, and nervous at the thought of becoming a First Time Parent. He was pretty good with other parents' cubs, but did that mean he'd be any good with his own?
Especially when he had the feeling he'd be father to more than one or two...

He was sure? Really sure? Really REALLY sure?! There were going to be cubs? How could this have happened? Well, okay, he knew HOW it had happened, but still.
Just what he needed, fuzzballs running around, poking him, chewing on his tail, chasing butterflies, running off and GETTING INTO TROUBLE! Oh god, his fur was turning gray just -thinking- about it. Cubs...facepaw!
Though if he were to admit it, cubs weren't really all that bad. They were cute, and fuzzy, and fun to play with. And well, had he really expected them to -not- have cubs?
"Does that make you happy?"
Hmph, just don't expect me to babysit!
"I'm sure you'll be great parents."

Did this make him happy? Helaku raised an eyebrow at Tauron. "How could it not make me happy? I would not have come this far if I didn't want to be with Nita, and it's not like we'll be raising the cubs on our own." He started feeling a little less nervous even as he said the words, effectively talking himself into seeing things more sensibly.
After all, Tauron had experience with distractible lions.

Hmph, did the silly lion really think Tauron was going to turn on him something? That he was going to yell at him for loving Awinita and having cubs with her? Really, what a dumb thing to think.
Tauron was sitting on his haunches, forepaws crossed. He wasn't sure what he thought of the way Helaku was looking at him. If he was thinking what he suspected, no, absolutely not, HE WAS NOT BABYSITTING CUBS! NEVER!
"You have my congratulations."
Cubs, awww, he was sure they would be cute little balls of fluff. Cute little playful, mischievous, curious, RUNNING OFF IN ALL DIRECTIONS balls off fluff. OH GOD LITTLE VERSIONS OF AWINITA RUNNING AROUND! He could already feel his fur turning gray...
