Hi, I am a jew and I would really like to get some insider beliefs on christianity and Catholicism and all the other sects of such. I just have a few questions
1: What are the "sins" and how do you redeem your sins?
2: do you read the old testament as well as the new testament?
3: do you have food restrictions, such as Jews have kosher laws?
4: are there certain times you have to pray to G-d or can you just speak to G-d?
5: Do you consider G-d to have a gender, because in Judaism we try to make G-d genderless, but I have trouble remembering to not call G-d "him" ??
this is it for now, If I have more questions I will ask, and if any of you have questions about Judaism please feel free to ask.
If you are not comfortable with me on this guild please tell me and I will try hard not offend any of you at all.
one last thing, I am in no way trying to convert any of you to Judaism, at all. I respect your religion and I hope you will respect mine.
Thanks so much
Kira

Don't know if I can be of much help but I'll try.Sins are things that offend or hurt God and or others. If we are truly sorry then we tell god we are sorry and repent and try to apologize to the person we may have hurt if possible. We do read the old and new testament. The old testament is our history and is full of prophesies and of course the Psalms and Proverbs. As far as food restrictions we shouldn't eat things that are bad for us and use moderation. As a former Catholic they dont eat meat on Fridays or during lent. We refer to God as our Father so I think of Him as a he but he might be genderless we don't really know. We can talk to Him ANYTIME which I think is really cool. I find the Jewish religion very interesting. We spent alot of time on it in my World Religions class in college. I don't know if this helped any but Peace and Blessings on you. You are welcome here anytime. biggrin heart

Mirana of Marmoreal 1: What are the "sins" and how do you redeem your sins? As a Christian, I know I'm a sinner. Sins are pretty much everything that goes against God's will. The big top ten are of course, the ten commandments that we can't uphold. Mirana of Marmoreal 2: do you read the old testament as well as the new testament? Yes, in my non-denominational church, we read verse by verse, the old and new testament. One pastor put it as in the old testament prophesy is given, in the new prophesy is fulfilled. (paraphrasing Chuck Smith) Mirana of Marmoreal 3: do you have food restrictions, such as Jews have kosher laws? As Christians there are no food restrictions per se. Personally, I don't eat anything that is still oozing with blood, you like steak. It grosses me out. Mirana of Marmoreal 4: are there certain times you have to pray to G-d or can you just speak to G-d? Through the sacrifice of the Lamb who takes away the sins, Jesus, I have been given access to God anytime anywhere. I pray at night, before I eat, when I read the Bible. There is no time restrictions. Mirana of Marmoreal 5: Do you consider G-d to have a gender, because in Judaism we try to make G-d genderless, but I have trouble remembering to not call G-d "him" ?? God is the Father, so HE is male. I never thought about God being genderless or being a woman. Not that I have anything against women. God was always male in the Bible to me. Mirana of Marmoreal this is it for now, If I have more questions I will ask, and if any of you have questions about Judaism please feel free to ask. If you are not comfortable with me on this guild please tell me and I will try hard not offend any of you at all. one last thing, I am in no way trying to convert any of you to Judaism, at all. I respect your religion and I hope you will respect mine. Hey, I think it is great to converse with a someone from the Jewish faith. I mean, what a history! You can trace your ancestors right back to Abraham! That is just mind boggling to me. WOW. I have probably a few questions to you. But right now, only one with regards to food comes to mind. blaugh What exactly are your food restrictions? I know only something about pork, and shell fish. And how do you know which food are kosher? PS: feel free to add me if you want to discuss faith. smile -Dash

Hellow! Nice to have you here... well, here are my answers:
1: What are the "sins" and how do you redeem your sins?
:: Sins are the one who seperate us from God. In easy sayings, Sin is Bad. We are Born sinners already so all we can do is prevent it. How do we redeem our sins? We redeem it by Jesus Christ. As you know, the penalty of Our Sins is death, or the second death. But praise the Lord Jesus Christ, he died for us, In short, Our faith lies on the resurrection and Gods Promises.
2: do you read the old testament as well as the new testament? :: Yes, I also read the New and Old testement.
3: do you have food restrictions, such as Jews have kosher laws? :: As far as I know, we don't have any food restrictions. Jesus once said that the food or thing that goes inside us DO NOT make us unclean, but the things the goes outside is the one making US UNCLEAN. Im trying to say that, No matter what you eat, Pork, Beef, Chicken, Veggies, these things don't make us unclean. Just like Pork, it doesn't mean that because they often drown themselves with mud means we are gonna get muds in our stomach just because they are dirty! and, All we follow are moral laws... not much of rituals, because we believe that doing "good works alone" is not effective. XD
4: are there certain times you have to pray to G-d or can you just speak to G-d? :: I pray in different kind of day, Our, and place. It doesn't really matter you know, well, that is for me. As long as I pray with my heart and sincerely, its ok. Sometimes, I talk to him just like a father. Sometimes, I prefer to pray.
5: Do you consider G-d to have a gender, because in Judaism we try to make G-d genderless, but I have trouble remembering to not call G-d "him" ?? :: God is our FATHER, so we consider him as male.
Ok... Tnx for the questions anyway!

Mirana of Marmoreal thanks that really helped me, I was wondering, In Judaism we have 10 commandments and the one I saw missing was remember the sabbath and keep it holy, wouldn't sunday count as the christian sabbath? Usually, church for Christians is on Sunday. But there is service on Saturday evening, for those who hold Saturday as the sabbath. For a Christian, everyday is Sabbath, because Jesus is their Sabbath, their rest.

thanks, I am so happy so far every one seems to be okay with me, because my "friend" who is catholic says I'm going to hell because I don't believe in Jesus, but actually I acknowledge Jesus, I believe he was an amazing man with extraordinary gifts from G-d. 1: What are the "sins" and how do you redeem your sins?
Jackster5933 many thing are sins, but to redeem yourself you just realise what you did wrong, and are truly sorry for it. you dont have to kill an animal, do roseries, or confess to anyone, if you are truly sorry god knows. 2: do you read the old testament as well as the new testament?
Jackster5933 I perfer the "new believers bible" its much more helpful. 3: do you have food restrictions, such as Jews have kosher laws?
Jackster5933 er, dont eat humans...? sweatdrop 4: are there certain times you have to pray to G-d or can you just speak to G-d?
Jackster5933 he answers your prayers in many ways, he's spoken to my mother before though, she described it as if it were thunder. 5: Do you consider G-d to have a gender, because in Judaism we try to make G-d genderless, but I have trouble remembering to not call G-d "him" ??
Jackster5933 its God, not "Godess" I perfer to think of him as a guy, because everyone pictures god as a man, he made us in his form, and he made Adam first.

It is sad that your "friend" isn't tactful. Catholicism has some points wrong in their doctrine as well, so their aren't in a position to state with surety who is going to hell. Though the New Testament state that faith in Jesus is salvation, I cannot say what God's plan for his firstborn is. So I better be silence on that. What I do know, however, is that Jesus was born Jewish, so why should I be against Jewish people. I think it is great that you stand up for your faith.

Quote: 1: What are the "sins" and how do you redeem your sins? A sin is any action or thought that separates you from God. It could be as innocent as stealing a piece of gum or as brutal as sexual abuse. Either way, they still separate you from God, and both will have you damned as well as the other. There is no one sin that is more serious than any other, except for the unforgivable blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. You are incapable of redeeming yourself from your sins. You can't do it. Period. Redemption is a matter of grace, not your merit. One who believes, confesses their sins and Christ as Lord (I'm reminded of when Thomas said "My Lord and my God") repents, and is baptized, and continues to live in love and obedience to Christ has salvation. Quote: 2: do you read the old testament as well as the new testament? Yes. While I am not bound to the laws, they are still useful for understanding what God thinks about things, and what His stance is. It is not binding, but it is useful. After all, the purpose of the Law is to lead one to Christ. It is a tutor. Quote: 3: do you have food restrictions, such as Jews have kosher laws? Aside from communion, no, there are no such restrictions. We are not to call unclean what God has made clean. Quote: 4: are there certain times you have to pray to G-d or can you just speak to G-d? You can pray whenever, where ever, about whatever. It is one of the most important part of a Christian's daily life. So important that we are told to "pray without ceasing." Quote: 5: Do you consider G-d to have a gender, because in Judaism we try to make G-d genderless, but I have trouble remembering to not call G-d "him" ?? God is male. He identifies Himself as such, and His actions / words identify Him as male. Jesus Christ, a man, made the claim that He was also God multiple times.

I only know a few kosher laws, because I am not orthodox, but basically no pork, and shell fish, you can't mix meat and cheese because it says you shall not cook the babe in the mothers milk, and we know things are kosher because of little symbols on packages http://basicjuice.blogs.com/photos/uncategorized/kosher.jpgbut yeah and also thanks to everyone so much I love you all DSHW Mirana of Marmoreal 1: What are the "sins" and how do you redeem your sins?
