Zanzibar is by far the largest of the cities in Syria. The climate is arid and the ground is dry for most of the year here. A small river flows nearby in times of abundant rain, but is quick to dry up in drought and makes irrigation nearly impossible. A few scraggly trees sparsely decorate the landscape, as well as rocky outcroppings. The ground largely consists of red, dry dust that is useful for forming mud-bricks when water is added, and dust storms are not uncommon. The houses here are more modest and less well-kept as a general rule due to the harsh conditions. Most are tent-like in nature, although a few are more sturdy. Hounds that inhabit the area are often low in status and may or may not own slaves. The general appearance of the city is that of a slummy, run-down area where nobody would ideally live, though some are forced by their poor status or other flaws. Zanzibar houses the black market. Run by Hyde, a particularly questionable hyena, the black market is used to sell slaves based on their worth. Because the city is so large and inexpensive to occupy, he has no problem housing large numbers of slaves and processing each one to fetch a pretty penny on the market.
