i've seen the lists and everything, but is there a certain way you must breed them to get the moves? Like for example a certain parent? or do you just breed until you get one with that attack??? please explain and help me!
Thank you!

basically it is when you breed a male and female, and the male has a move that the female can learn via egg move, you have to find an online resource to figure out what moves you can teach via egg move

wait, the female learns something from it???
you're confusing me sad
I know a resource and everything, but the baby from the egg learns a certain move without a certain parent? like can i have a baby from a ditto learn something?

♥ | Egg Moves aren't random. It's pretty easy to understand once you get used to it.

One thing to remember is that only fathers can pass on moves to the little ones, and only two pokémon in the same egg group can produce an egg together (i.e. you can't breed Aerodactyl with Goldeen). A pokémon egg will always be the same kind of pokémon as its mother (unless, of course, the "mother" is Ditto, which we won't be using in this case).

EX.
Eevee can only learn the move Fake Tears as an egg move. So to get an Eevee with Fake Tears I will breed the following pokémon, with the following learnsets:

TEDDIURSA♂
Scratch
Leer
Lick
Fake Tears

EEVEE♀
Tackle
Tail Whip
Helping Hand
--

And the result will be EEVEE (♂ or ♀) Tackle, Tail Whip, Helping Hand, Fake Tears.

There is also something called "chain breeding." This is when a pokémon that has been bred to know an egg move (such as the resulting Eevee above, if it is ♂) is put with a female pokémon of a different species that can learn the same egg move. Usually the reason you would want to do this is to get a move on a pokémon in an egg group that has no pokémon that learns that move via level-up. Since this requires that you know what pokémon are in what egg group, a quick briefing:

There are 15 egg groups. One of them is the "Ditto" egg group (of which only Ditto is a member) and another is the "No eggs group" which contains all legendary pokémon (except Manaphy), all baby pokémon (Pichu, Cleffa, Iglybuff, etc.), Nidorina, and Nidoqueen. All other pokémon are part of different groups. The largest group is the "Ground" group, which includes most of the mammal-like pokémon. Chain breeding will come in when you have pokémon that are are a part of two (i.e. more than one) egg groups.

Also may be helpful: a pokémon's egg group never changes, even when it evolves. The only exception is, of course, listed above as pokémon that have "baby" forms.

EX. (OF CHAIN BREEDING)
Eevee can learn the move Wish as an egg move; however, no pokémon in the Ground egg group can learn Wish via level-up, only as an egg move. So we need a pokémon that is part of the Ground egg group and an egg group of a pokémon that can learn Wish via level-up and that can learn Wish as an egg move. SKITTY fits the criteria--- so I will breed the following pokémon:

TOGETIC♂ (Egg Group: Flying and Fairy)
Yawn
Encore
Follow Me
Wish

SKITTY♀ (Egg Group: Ground and Fairy)
Fake Out
Growl
Tail Whip
Tackle

The result I want will be SKITTY♂ (must be male) Growl, Tail Whip, Tackle, Wish. Then---

SKITTY♂
Growl
Tail Whip
Tackle
Wish

EEVEE♀ (Egg Group: Ground)
Tackle
Tail Whip
Helping Hand
--

And the result will be EEVEE (♂ or ♀) Tackle, Tail Whip, Helping Hand, Wish. Ta~da! smile

Honestly, chain breeding is probably the most complicated part of breeding, especially if you start trying to pass down more than one egg move. There will be times it is not possible to pass on certain egg moves through chain breeding, just as a limitation in-game.

Passing on TM moves.

This is really simple. Basically if the father knows a move that he learned via TM or a move that he learned via level-up but is available via TM, it will be passed onto his child IF the child pokémon can also learn that move via TM.

EX.
RAICHU♂ was taught Rain Dance via TM. If I breed Raichu with EEVEE♀, the resulting Eevee will know Tackle, Tail Whip, Helping Hand, Rain Dance. (Raichu is in the Fairy and Ground egg groups.)

EX.2
GOLEM♂ learned Earthquake at L36. If I breed Golem with ONIX♀, the resulting Onix will know Tackle, Harden, Bind, Earthquake. (Golem and Onix are both in the Mineral egg group.)

Getting a L1 pokémon that knows a move it wouldn't learn until it was L100...or something.

THE FEMALE POKEMON COUNTS ON THIS ONE (didn't think it would happen, did you?). Anyway, this is kind of simple, too, but requires more work than necessary in most cases. In some cases, however, it is very helpful.

If you want a newly hatched L1 pokémon that knows a move it would not learn until it has been leveled up, breed a male pokémon that knows the move and a female pokémon that also knows the move.

EX.
Say I wanted a Vaporeon that knows Baton Pass, a move that Eevee does not learn until L36, but I also want Vaporeon to know Water Gun, a move he learns at L15. Obviously, I evolve Eevee before L15, Vaporeon will never learn Baton Pass. Therefore I breed the following pokémon:

EEVEE♂
Growl
Quick Attack
Bite
Baton Pass

EEVEE♀
Growl
Quick Attack
Bite
Baton Pass

And the result will be EEVEE (♂ or ♀) Growl, Quick Attack, Bite, Baton Pass. (In this case all of the moves would be passed down.) Since this newly hatched Eevee would be L1, I would then be free to evolve it into Vaporeon whenever without losing Baton Pass as a move.

The only mistake you can make with this is using the level-up learnset of a fully or semi-evolved pokémon. That is to say, do not breed two L50 Gyarados that both know Hyper Beam and expect to get a Magikarp that knows Hyper Beam. This will only work if the move(s) shared by both parent pokémon can be learned via level-up by the child pokémon, not its fully-evolved or semi-evolved form(s).

Also, male pokémon bred with Ditto CAN pass on egg moves (if the male pokémon already knows the egg move), just don't expect the baby to be a different species of pokémon. xd

This is your complete guide to understanding breeding. (Waaay too long.) gonk | ♥
