Books are going to the big screen. As many people have noticed lately a lot of books have been turned into movies. Well not everyone feels the same way about it and after seeing a few of these books > movies I want to know what other people think about it. So what's your opinion about it? Also, I've missed a lot of books > movies so it would be nice if you helped me with my list by giving me a small list of your own.
My opinion Im not quite sure how I feel about this. I dont particularly like it because a lot of the good details in a book get cut out when put onto the movie screen. Also, they rarely live up to their expectation.
Books turned to movies -Harry Potter -Bridge to Terabithia -Twilight -Hoot -Eragon

Twinkle twinkle little bat, how I wonder where you're at......LOTR & Bridge to Terebithia are the only good ones in my opinion. Eregon was amazing before I read the book, now it's just okay. *ticked that Twilight killed any chance of Eldest coming out* ...Up above the world you fly, someone please tell me the next line...

I thought Bridge to Terebithia made it into a movie with flying colors but it was also written in a way that could be put as images on a screen as well as reading nicely. Eragon was a good movie if you could manage to separate it from the book--it really didn't include a lot of the necessary details from the book. Harry Potter has just been a pretty consistent disappointment.
My Opinion: They can be good but they have to pay attention to small details to make it like the book. Usually it doesn't work but I'm always ready to be pleasantly surprised.

In my opinion, it's all about the way the directors and producers treat the books. You can't put too much or too little. Lord of the Rings cut it close, but did a spectacular job of summarizing the books in a fantastic way!
Things like Eragon make me cringe. A lot was changed, unnecessarily. It was also too short...
Anyway, certain movies are made with a lot of heart- you can usually tell which ones were just adapted from a book to make a quick buck, and which were developed with care.
I think they need to give the books-to-movies thing a break. Can we have some original movie ideas please? xp

Well, it's easier for movie makers to make book-movies instead of coming up with their own ideas. That way they're guaranteed an already built in audience. rolleyes I usually hate book-movies. I can count on one hand the book adapations I actually like. There are actually a few movies I like better than the book, but those are few and far between. (They are What Dreams May Come, The Mighty, and Practical Magic, if you're interested). I think what ruins them is that they try to stick too closely to the book, actually. They're working with a different medium, and trying to tell the same story; but some things that work great in a book just don't work on a screen. That's part of why Twilight was so bad, they tried way too hard to keep the dialouge the exact same, and keep it exactly like the book. Don't get me wrong, I like them to stay as true to the book as possible, but...they have to strike a fine balance between cutting out what won't work or isn't needed, and keeping the general story the same. It's something a lot of directors don't manage to do.
