The Anti-Munch Project: Rules to Fairness and Realism
01.01Beginning Notes: A while back, a user on Gaia by the name of Tanasha posted the original Anti-Munch Project, a guide to avoid unfairness when role-playing. Since then, the Anti-Munch Project (referred to as the AMP from here on out) has been widely accepted throughout the role-playing community as the 'common sense' of role-playing. To put it differently, the AMP are the rules and restrictions that keep role-playing fun and fair for everyone. It has been updated and adopted by many different role-players, all adding their own knowledge into the mix. I recently found a modified version posted in the Barton OOC form, have adopted it, and made a few changes of my own. This is my revision of the Anti-Munch Project.01.02What Is The Anti-Munch Project?: The Anti-Munch Project, or AMP, is one of many guides that exists for role-players. It helps to identify various types of unfairness, or “Munching”, that exists in role-playing. Munching is a critical issue in role-playing, and this guide will help you avoid the players who Munch while avoiding the mistakes yourself. This guide, hopefully, will help you in your role-playing endeavors in the future, to keep your material clean, fair, and fun for everyone. 01.03Munching: "Munching" is the term used when someone acts unfairly or unrealistically when role-playing. Munching has been broken down into over thirty different forms, and those can be separated further into three different groups. Someone can munch in three different ways; with their character actions, with their character profiles, and with OOC. In this guide, you will be introduced to the three categories of munching and all the forms that apply to them.

02Navigation Table and Search Help: 02.01Navigation Table: The Navigation Table will help you easily access any particular part in the guide. Just find the number code of the section you'd like to go to, open the Find Text search bar, and you're already there. Although, if this is the first time you've read the AMP, it's highly suggested you read it all. I wouldn't expect anyone to memorize it, hell not even I know it all by heart, but you can learn a few things that'll stick in the long run. [Search number code] Section or subsection of guide. 03 Role-Plays, Role-Playing and Role-Player's : A Crash Course Before we delve into the main purpose of this guide, let’s have a quick crash course on Role-play's, Role-playing, and Role-Players. Afterward, I'll go over some common terms of role-playing to brush up your lingo. 03.01 Role-Plays Explained: Role-plays, or RP's, are like written games, made to the desires of the RP's maker, known as the Creator, to create a desired story. RP's usually consist of a setting where the story takes place, a plot that will turn into the story, a back story to give it history, characters to live out the story, and they usually follow an interest genre or a combination of genres. Characters in the RP act out the plot to create the story, which is the purpose of an RP. 03.02 Role-Playing Explained: Role-playing, or RPing, is when a player puts themselves in the shoes of a pre-made character or one of their own design, and interact as their character with other player controlled characters to create a story in an RP. 03.03 Role-Players Explained: Role-Players, or RPer's, are the people in control of the characters. They are responsible for their characters and how they contribute to the story in an RP. There are many different player types, all ranging in different skill and literacy level, and each one is unique in their own ways (usually). For a better look at player types, click this link here [link it].

04 The Types of Munch: 04.01 The Types of Munch: The types of Munching are; Acting Munch, creating Munch, and being Munch. When a player acts Munch, they are performing unfair or unrealistic actions while in-character and participating in the RP. When a player creates Munch, it's something their character has that's unique they've obtained unfairly or unrealistically. When a player is Munch, they're using out-of-character knowledge unfair or unrealistically. Below, you'll find there three Types of Munch further explained. 04.02Acting Munch: When a Player acts Munch, they are performing unfair or unrealistic actions while in-character. This simply means that their character is acting in an almost impossible way, or executing feats equal to Superman, which no logical way they could be doing it. Primary examples of this are absolutely flawless accuracy, super-amazing reflexes so good you can dodge, duck, dip, dive, and dodge everything, the ability to withstand any amount of pain and keep going, strength that accedes all, and super-fast movements, leading to super-fast attacks that are unblock-able. 04.03 Creating Munch: When a Player creates Munch, it means their character has something in their possession that is unfair to other Players, or is unrealistic for their character to have in the RP. Prime examples are unbreakable armor, weapons of incredible power and no draw-backs, amazing limitless power, or beyond-death regenerative abilities. 04.04 Being Munch: When a Player is Munch, it means they're acting unfairly out-of-character, or are using out-of-character knowledge to their advantage when it's not allowed. There aren't many examples of this, as most Players are naturally fair (ha).

05Forms of Munching : An Organized Collection 05.01Intro to Collection: Up to this point, you've learned why the AMP was made and what it is for, and you've also learned what Munching is and the three different types of Munch. Now it's time to learn about the thirty three forms of Munching. First, I'll provide an alphabetical list of all the forms of Munching, talk briefly about the Munching scale, and then I'll get into more detail on each form of Munching after dividing them into the three different types of Munch. 05.02Alphabetical List of Munching Forms: Aimbotter Augustine Baghdad Bobbit Batman Boa Constrictor Bella/Cullen Cyberer Daydreamer Gaseous Snake Godmodder Goku Guardian Ironclad Sentinel IDKFA Mary Sue/ Gary Stu McFly Min-maxer Miss Cleo Oblivious Oaf One-liner Overcompensation Stroker Oxymoron Powercell Prosecutor Puppetmaster Quaker Revisionist Romeo’s Tragedy Shoe Elf Speedhacker Trinity Twink 05.03Munch rating: A rating of 1-10 is applied to each form of Munch to help the user's of this guide better understand the severity of each form. Anything rated 4 and below should be called on if they happen repeatedly. Anything 5 and above should be called out and fixed immediately. And now, what you've been waiting for. In the examples, A is a fair role-player, and B is the Muncher. Note: The examples are not in proper role-playing form.

05-1Forms of Acting Munch: Mini-Nav Table: [05-1.01]- Aimbotter [05-1.02]- Augustine [05-1.03]- Batman [05-1.04]- Bella/Cullen [05-1.05]- Cyberer [05-1.06]- Godmodder [05-1.07]- Goku [05-1.08]- Guardian [05-1.09]- IDKFA [05-1.10]- Powercell [05-1.11]- Revisionist [05-1.12]- Romeo's Tragedy [05-1.13]- Shoe Elf [05-1.14]- Speedhacker [05-1.15]- Trinity 05-1.01Aimbotter Munch rate: 7A term developed for programs in first-person shooters that provide instant headshots, Aimbotters automatically hit their targets, always, with no chance of the other person blocking or dodging. Especially annoying when using NPCs, who have no say in if they’re hit or not. EXAMPLEA: Three hundred seventy of my trained assassin gymnasts crest the hill, sight you, and rush toward you. B: Luckily, I have three hundred sixty-nine bullets in my chain gun! I quickly mow them all down, each taking a single bullet to the head, and peg the last one with a rock in the sternum. 05-1.02Augustine Munch rate: 8Far more prevalent than they should be, Augustines carry something impossible or illegal over from one RP over to another. EXAMPLEA: Given that this RP's technology base is medieval, I happily drive my cart to the market to buy some maggot-ridden meat. B: Too late! I already got there in my Gundam and blew up everything with my insanely overpowered weapons! And don't start whining, because my Gundam's already pre-approved in the "This Is Not a Medieval Technology Base RP" thread. 05-1.03Batman Munch rate: 5A Batman is a player who uses a pre-existing character, but role-plays them how they want, now how the character is. EXAMPLEA: In this Fantastic Four RP, I'll be Ben, the gruff rock-man with a heart of gold. B: I'll be Reed Richards, the living sex toy who hunts down innocent women to subdue with his incredible flexibility! 05-1.04Bella/Cullen Munch rate: 6Named after the main characters of the popular tween vampire romance novel, Twilight, and for a reason. Bellas (girls) and Cullens (guys) instantly fall in love with a character they just met. EXAMPLEA: I enter the room, looking around for a seat. Finding one, I take it and pull out my binder. B: Seeing the guy walk into the room, I instantly fall in love, swooning in silent passion over someone I know nothing about besides his exterior. 05-1.05Cyberer Munch rate: 10Extremely rare, and for good reason. Cyberers are players who role-play sexual acts in great detail. Almost all role-playing forums will instantly ban Cyberers when they rear their ugly heads, and it just might be the greatest thing in the guide to AVOID doing. IF you must, do it privately; no one wants to see that s**t. Besides, it's against Gaia ToS. EXAMPLENo example provided, I'm not getting in s**t. 05-1.06Godmodder Munch rate: 8-10The penultimate form of Munching. Godmodding is a very broad term, but generally refers to a character who can overcome any situation… without a logical or reasonable explanation. They often have flashy, ridiculous powers that give them an unfair advantage in combat (I.e., instant healing or massive, unblock-able attacks), slough off almost anything you say or do in-character wise, and are often unaware (or refuse to acknowledge) their Munchiness. They often combine this with other forms of Munching, making them one of, if not THE most annoying group of Munchers around. EXAMPLEA: Now that you're strapped to the end of a naval cannon by a three hundred pound chain, I fire it. B: Whoosh! I nimbly dodge, somehow forgetting the fact that I'm restrained by a three-hundred-pound chain! 05-1.07Goku Munch rate: 7A player whose character can take ridiculous amounts of damage and keep fighting, much like the Dragonball Z character they’re named after. EXAMPLEA: I aimed my chain gun and fired, thousands of rounds flying your direction. Once empty, I fired an anti-tank missile. B: I absorb the bullets and rockets, and ignore the massive holes in my body as I come your way to kill you! KAMEHAMEHA! 05-1.08Guardian Munch rate: 7Sort of like anti-Aimbotters, Guardians block or dodge every attack thrown at them. Basically, they’ll always find a way around everything, even if it’s unavoidable (like destiny). EXAMPLEA: My men fire a barrage of two hundred arrows towards you from a 25 foot distance while on elevated ground. I warned you earlier not to come within 40 feet of my men or there would be no escaping death. B: I block and dodge every single one, and throw my sword at you like a boomerang! 05-1.09IDKFA Munch rate: 8People who never run out of ammo, weapons or whatever else helps them win to the point of impossibility. Generally think of Solid Snake, James Bond or some other cheesy spy-novel hero. With cheats. EXAMPLEA: You're all out of ammo for all five of your Ingram submachine guns. Since you're buck-naked, I know I can now safely step into the open and begin returning fire. B: Ha! Little did you know, I have twelve shuriken hidden within my afro! 05-1.10Powercell Munch rate: 3-10Commonly referring to a magic user who never seem to run out of power, but has no logical reason that explains that inextinguishable well of power. May also refer to magic users who suddenly 'tap' into power when it's convenient. EXAMPLEA: Warding off the fireball with a shield of air, I jump back to catch my breath after our minute fight. B: AHA! I wave of power is unleashed from within me, and I cast an extraordinarily powerful spell that I had no knowledge of previously. Youz dead. A HA HA. 05-1.11Revisionist Munch rate: 3-8A revisionist is a player who will perform actions or provoke situations that will alter the RP Creator's plot without permission, and usually in a way it's not intended to go. EXAMPLEA: You three are the chosen ones! You cannot be corrupted by the darkness! B: Suddenly I feel the darkness swelling up inside me, even though I am one of the chosen ones! It seems the darkness is stronger then you thought! A-ha. 05-1.12Romeo’s Tragedy Munch rate: 6A bit like a Bella/Cullen, except that the person they fall in love with is a character on the enemy’s side OR is trying to kill them. EXAMPLEA. The Akimichi girl stepped out of the shadows but froze seeing the Hyuga boy, his features catching her breath. B. He hated the Akimichi clan, but as he saw the girl with her pale dagger he couldn't help but think of how beautiful she appeared. 05-1.13Shoe Elf Munch rate: 10A Shoe Elf is a player who performs actions involving other characters when the characters are offline, without permission from the character's offline player, or in unacceptable ways. EXAMPLEA: ((OOC: Well, gotta go to bed. Big neurosurgery test tomorrow.)) B: Ho, ho, ho! Now that the loser's gone to bed, I can strap his character to a cross and peg him with rotten fruit! 05-1.14Speedhacker Munch rate: 10A character who performs a series of actions in one post so fast that others don’t have a chance to respond. One of the biggest problems around, and extremely annoying. EXAMPLE A: I walk to the door and step outside. B: I dive at you, punch you in the chin, then the stomach, roundhouse kick you in the face, pick you up, slam you into a chair, tie you up, and gag you without you ever once defending yourself. 05-1.15Trinity Munch rate: 8“Knowledge downloaders”, or players who can perform a disciplined action perfectly without any notable history or experience. Refers to the scene in The Matrix where Neo downloads knowledge of kung fu. EXAMPLEA: My character was raised by a gang leader in the harsh conditions of a slum. From this, he learned to wield small firearms fairly effectively and has limited driving abilities. B: My character was born on a remote jungle island and can fly or drive anything and use any gun with perfect aim.

05-2Forms of Creating Munch: Mini Nav Table: [05-2.01]- Boa Constrictor [05-2.02]- Daydreamer [05-2.03]- Gaseous Snake [05-2.04]- Ironclad Sentinel [05-2.05]- Mary Sue/Gary Stu [05-2.06]- Mcfly [05-2.07]- Min-maxer [05-2.08]- Oblivious Oaf [05-2.09]- Puppetmaster [05-2.10]- Quaker [05-2.11]- Twink 05-2.01Boa Constrictor Munch rate: 4-7People who put so many rules into their role-play that it becomes impossible for more than a few people to role-play and have fun. The list of rules is often long, and covers every minuscule detail imaginable. Now, role-plays DO need rules, but too many or to detailed rules make it hard to enjoy yourself in the game. They often ban certain forms of magic, weapons, technology and powers. The reason its Munchiness is so low is that most people who see the huge list of rules say “screw this” and hit the Back button. EXAMPLENo example is provided, because it would imply that there are certain rules that shouldn’t be used when developing a role-play. Just summarize, summarize, summarize. –looks at guide- sweatdrop 05-2.02Daydreamer Munch rate: 3Players who at first appear to be posting literate material, but then go off on a mad ramble about something entirely unrelated. Now, putting some outside detail or back story into a post is fine, but it shouldn’t be more than a few sentences, unless you’re intentionally doing a flashback for present story purposes. However, Daydreamers simply get sidetracked on something else. EXAMPLEA: In the middle of the intense shootout, I dash across the narrow alley, ducking and weaving in hopes to avoid getting hit. I'm unsuccessful; two bullets peg me in the shoulder, throwing me back into a Dumpster. B: The bullets make me think back to my days as a youth, when I had to melt down tin soldiers to use as musket balls against the Redcoats... or was it redskins? I can't remember. Anyway, I had to walk uphill all three ways to school and back, running from glaciers all the while. It was torture, lemme tell ya. And then there's the story of how I met my first wife... 05-2.03Gaseous Snake Munch rate: 6A Gaseous Snake a player who will attempt to alter the RP after the fair player has done something, usually stating they prepared for the situation before hand without any prior knowledge to what the situation called for. EXAMPLEA: Now safe, I walk to the cellar door and open it. B: Being a fellow with a bit of foresight, I hooked that doorknob to a car battery an hour ago, even though I started chasing you fifteen minutes ago and have no idea where you live. You're thrown across the yard. 05-2.04Ironclad Sentinel Munch rate: 7Ironclad Sentinels are a bit like Guardians with minions and a base, and are a fast-growing problem. It refers to when an organization/corporation/military has too many defenses, or ridiculously powerful ones. EXAMPLEA: I am attacking with a battalion of thirty tanks, air support of twenty gun-ships, and three submarines off the coast with Tomahawk cruise missiles. B: Defenses - Force-field that blocks everything but lets our weapons out, invisibility shield around the base, 100 SAM turrets, 100 machine gun turrets, 1000 guards with machine guns, 200 space fighters, 200 tanks. 05-2.05Mary Sue/ Gary Stu Munch rate: 0-10Not truly a form of Munching, and not always annoying. Mary Sues/ Gary Stus are characters who have over-idealized mannerisms and no apparent flaws. They represent the perfect character for their creator. Everyone wants to be a Mary Sue or Gary Stu, but no one can, because characters NEED flaws. It also refers to characters with certain clichés (strange eye colors, mysterious past, etc). I Mary Sues and Gary Stus are actually more common in literature than they are in role-playing, but they ARE there, and you probably know or are one. EXAMPLENo role-play example is provide, but examples of Mary Sue/ Gary Stu characters from other media include Edward Cullen and Bella Swann from Twilight, Wesley Crusher from Star Trek: The Next Generation, and almost every good Disney character to date. 05-2.06McFly Munch rate: 7Characters who attempt to alter situations (and often past posts) drastically to give them an advantage. They’re a far worse version of Gaseous Snakes, but are declining in numbers. EXAMPLE A: Ha! Now that the force field is down, I run inside your evil lair! B: Um... um... there's also a super-secret second force field which causes you to die instantly! I just didn't say anything about it because... um... I had to do my laundry! Not because I just thought of it now! Honestly! -OR- (edits a previous post) You forgot about the second force field, which I mentioned # posts ago! 05-2.07Min-maxer Munch rate: 8Not very common, they’re more of a problem in D&D-style games. Their strength:weakness ratio is ridiculously off-balance. EXAMPLEA: I've successfully broken into the facility which gave you your incredibly 1337 power armor. Now I pull up the file on it. What does it say about weak points? B: The metal of my armor is... um... allergic to praying mantis urine. 05-2.08Oblivious Oaf Munch rate: 2-5Characters who don’t explain how what they’re using works. Not always bad, as not everyone knows how particle shielding or a gravity-spewing rail-gun works, but an attempt should be made to at least give a vague idea. EXAMPLEB: Hahahahahaha my ultra shield deflects any projectile weapon A: ((Dude, how does that work? I need some info)) B: ((Ahhhhh uhhhhhh.......it....uses......some.......weird substance......that like...........does.....something......and then it like.....deflects all projectiles! Thats how it works, its not like I never explain my gear its just that I just came up with that explanation now, I mean I just had trouble explaining it.)) 05-2.09Puppetmaster Munch rate: 4-9 Another overly common occurrence. Puppetmasters take control of another player’s RPC, often without their permission, often to their advantage, and often to extremes. Now, very minor, general, expected Puppetmastering is okay; for example, if you throw a fireball at a tree and then say that everyone turns to look at the burning tree, that’s usually acceptable, because it’s a fair bet people WOULD turn to see a tree set on fire by a fireball. However, if you say that a person’s character runs away screaming and trampling others, that’s unacceptable. EXAMPLEA: I step carefully into the room, peering around for occupants. B: Suddenly a dragon pokes you in the eye. You run screaming from the room, thereafter you go home, make a pickle sandwich, and call your mother to cry about how she ruined your life. 05-2.10Quaker Munch rate: 9Characters who can spawn anything magically, or pull objects out of nowhere. They often have “Hammerspaces”- pocket dimensions used for storage, named after a cartoon gag where a character pulls a giant hammer out of nowhere-, which is still not an excuse, unless said Hammerspace has a previously listed inventory. Even then, most people see Quakers as Munchers. Possibly named after the Quake video games. EXAMPLEA: My character is wearing a form of armor only vulnerable to a drop of water from a holy well in South Dakota. B: *He pulls out the vial of water from a holy well in South Dakota* I don't know why I always carried this, but I knew it would come in handy one day. 05-2.11Twink Munch rate: 10If a character has strengths that aren’t balanced with equivalent weaknesses, or has phenomenal cosmic powers but doesn’t go into detail to explain how they work, you have a Twink. However, these characters are occasionally allowed, particularly in role-plays with omnipotent god-like beings or Gods, or generally when the role-play isn’t specific about invincible deities. EXAMPLEA: A punch coming, eh? Well, seeing as you're a seven-year-old child and I'm riding in a twenty-meter mecha, I won't bother dodging. B: Fooled you! I have the power to DESTROY EVERYTHING when I punch it! I'm just like an X-Man, and therefore require you to suspend all logic when RPing with me! Oh, and I have the power to steal your girlfriend, too.

05-3Forms of Being Munch: Mini Nav Table: [05-3.01]- Baghbad Bobbit [05-3.02]- Miss Cleo [05-3.03]- One-liner [05-3.04]- Overcompensation Stroker [05-3.05]- Oxymoron [05-3.06]- Prosecuter 05-3.01Baghdad Bobbit Munch rate: 5Baghdad Bobbits are role-players who usually Munch, and soon become fed up of role-playing with anyone who tries to stay fair, and leaves the RP. EXAMPLEA: He fired at the stationary target, hitting twice but missing with the remaining four rounds. B: Smiling, he fired all six shots in the bull’s eye of the target, then blew on the smoke coming from his gun’s barrel. A: ((Dude, we’re in training, our characters haven’t had a lot of experience with a firearm.)) B: (( Pfft, f--- that. *leaves role-play*)) 05-3.02Miss Cleo Munch rate: 8Players who use OOC knowledge to their advantage that they're not allowed to use. EXAMPLEA: ((OOC: There's a secret switch hidden in the lamp, but only me and my friends know about it and you're not allowed to find it yet.)) B: I suddenly think to myself-- why not check the lamp for hidden switches? Call me now for your free reading! 05-3.03One-liner Munch rate: 3-7A player who posts ridiculously short posts that somehow attempt to sum up everything they’re doing. EXAMPLEA: I fire two shots at you before I barrel roll behind a pillar. B: I dodge, you die. 05-3.04Overcompensation Stroker Munch rate: 7Players who try to “overcompensate” for their inability to post quality material by creating incredibly long posts, in the belief that the longer the post, the better it is. Sometimes related to Daydreamers, and the opposite of One-liners EXAMPLENo example given. 05-3.05Oxymoron Munch rate: 4Players who manage to contradict themselves in their posts. EXAMPLEA: I’m a farmer with a shotgun. B: I’m a black hole that emits blinding pulses of visible light! (Physics 101: black holes suck in everything, even light, and nothing escapes once sucked in. Therefore, a black hole cannot “emit blinding pulses of visible light”.) 05-3.06Prosecutor Munch rate: 8Players who try to claim everyone else is Munching, when they are in fact the ones Munching. May also refer to players who must point out every little mistake others make, even spelling. EXAMPLEA: My character is a fire mage who casts a two-turn fire spell that will launch a fireball. B: My character is a five year old salamander named George, who makes a funny noise when he walks. George, despite being a normal salamander, is immune to fire, and also capable of devastating magics with a single swipe of his four inch long tail. A: Well if he's a normal salamander, he can't be immune to fire, and if he's immune to fire, he can't be a normal salamander. Same with the magics. B: WTF STFU N00B U CANT SAY THAT HES MY CHARACTER NOT YOURS OMG WTF FUHKIN HAX GODMODE

06End Notes: There's so much information the AMP covers it's staggering to think someone would have to keep it all in mind with every word they role-play. But you don't have to necessarily memorize everything the AMP encompasses, and I think I can somewhat summarize its teaches after having gone through the information so extensively.
The AMP teaches us what Munching is, when a Player is unfair to other Players. It teaches us how a Player can Munch, by acting, creating, or by being. By providing us with that, we then know how to identify Munching and correct it, avoid it if it can't be corrected, and how to avoid Munching ourselves. The easiest way to do this, is to ask ourselves 'Is this fair to everyone else?' whenever or however we act in any role-playing environment, and ask ourselves 'Is that fair to everyone?' when someone else acts in any role-playing environment.
Avoid Munching by being logical and creative in your role-playing and with your characters. When you make things like spells, weapons, armor and equipment, always explain how your character got it, it's strengths, and be fair in it's weaknesses and draw-backs. When you're in a RP fight, never automatically hit, and take quick short turns with your opponent. Never try to do to much before someone could react, unless you're allowed to.
I loved doing this guide. It was a learning experience for me, in more then a few ways. I personally want to thank any one who took the time to read at least most of it, enough to be interested in reading this particular part.
The AMP exists to limit those who can't find a way besides doing something, or having something, illogically. If you're logical by it, its acceptable. Always have an explainable reason for everything in-character, and you can do anything imaginable. We're limited by reason, but in a world we create, we control what that reason is.

07Credit as Thanks: First off, I want to give a thousand thanks to the original author of the AMP, Tanasha. Although I don't know her personally, if she hadn't created the first AMP, I wouldn't have re-visioned my own. It was because of her work, hundreds of RPer's have been following what's clearly common sense in their RP'ing, and so many others besides myself have adopted it and expanded it's vast well of knowledge. I also want to give my thanks to ecopper12, the user who posted the most (and practically only) recent copy of the AMP. I'd like to thank K` for the stolen RP terms, xD And I also want to thank the RPer's who have kept the Project alive after all the years it's started. That concludes The Anti-Munch Project : Rules to Fairness and Realism guide.
